Seemingly long overdue, PSVR has finally gotten its killer exercise app in BoxVR, a frankly hellacious workout that turns your living room into a gym bootcamp. It doesn't get much more intense, or sweatier, than this.
Even though its quite simplistic, I really enjoyed Box VR. Its music is great and its design is well thought out. It may feel a bit light on features but the game gets you straight into the action and burning off those calories. What more can you ask for? It is great fun and a good workout to boot.
Utilizing virtual reality to help get gamers up off the couch is a great use of the technology, and BoxVR is about as good as it gets when it comes to fitness games. It's a fast, challenging, and entertaining way to try to lose some extra pounds with your VR helmet.
Some might consider BoxVR a scant package, but it genuinely seems interested in providing a focused fitness experience with minimal fluff. It’s doubtful that it will completely overtake Beat Saber’s strong market presence, but it honestly feels like a better workout overall.
Really good fitness game ! Wasn't expecting anything and got really pleasantly surprised. Tracking of the PS move is excellent. A LOT of workouts are there from 2 to 60 min, nice soundtrack and quite challenging sessions ! It is also perfect for people subjected to VR sickness since you don't move forward or backward, only squatting and side dodging. You also have the option to create your own workout by mixing the different songs available in the game. Too bad you can't yet import your songs and design a full training (moves). So far, one of the best VR experience I got since Astro Bot. I really recommend it if you're looking for a fitness VR experience.
The tracking is fine and the workouts are sweat-inducing. However, everything around it is horrible:
-You can' favorite workouts.
-The workouts only give you the number of minutes it takes, and the title of the first (!) song. Just the title. No artist. And if your workout is any longer than 3 minutes, you will get 2,3,4 or more songs in one workout. Of which you don't even get the title.
-Furthermore, you don't even get an audio sample of the music in the workout you select. You select it blind. Completely ridiculous for a music-fitness game
-There are seemingly stock photos of 5 different "trainers" in front of every workout. That's all you ever get to see of them. Just one single photo. No videos, no motivating speeches, nothing.
-You get three maps. Empty gym hall at day, Empty gym hall at night, and weird sci-fi desert with triangles in it.
-Pressing and holding START on the Move controller doesn't reset your field of view, like it does in EVERY other game. It only resets your move controllers. VR drift or maybe you started standing up and want to sit down now? Gotta restart the game. There is also no option in the game menu for it to reset. It just lacks this feature.
These missing basic functions suggest a complete lack of understanding how games work, therefore I can't give a higher note than 2.
Bad tracking, terrible song mapping, no option to pick individual songs, no song information, severely lacking options. I have never felt so ripped off. The only reason I don't give it a zero is because it actually runs and isn't broken. Don't waste your money.
