Second Son is easily the best game Sucker Punch has ever released, easily the best game available so far on the PS4, and easily the one game that every PS4 owner should purchase.

It doesn’t stray off the series’ beaten path too much, but there are enhancements in terms of gameplay and some stunning effects put to good use to create the PS4′s most fun and best looking game yet...While the narrative might not have the same impact as previous games, it’s somewhat more of a down-to-earth tale of an ordinary man with extraordinary powers, and that’s an exciting new direction for the series to take.

It plays great, and it looks even better, but its advancements also beg it to be held to a higher standard, one that its overall story and morality systems struggle to reach.

At times, Infamous Second Son delivers great fun with its combat mechanics, yet a repetitive formula, combined with some hiccups and balancing issues, ultimately can't be ignored. It's an entertaining and visually beautiful piece of software, but it could've been much more.

Second Son is better than the first two games: it's faster and much more satisfying. It's just a shame that Sucker Punch has not been able to make it the best of the genre due to a few slips and imprecise behaviors.

InFamous: Second Son is good but unmemorable — essentially the diner food of video games.

Second Son looks fantastic and from a technical perspective, it’s a pretty impressive feat especially given that the game is out less than six months from the release of the Playstation 4. Unfortunately the gameplay isn’t up to par with the light show. Like the neon that Delsin channels, it’s all light and no heat.

Its not a hard game other than a few places (He Who Dwells is NOT my favorite part) and is pretty forgiving on normal difficulty. The dialogue is well written, the story is well done and very well voice acted and the motion capture is just fantastic. This is easily one of the best launch titles for either the PS4 or the XBO and if you enjoy open world action and being a hero, this is a game you should not miss! The game gets dinged for the supposed "morale choice" system as it is not a choice beyond the first one - once you have made that choice your ultimate power is driven by sticking to that initial decision. There is no substantial consequence to your decisions either so the entire idea is mostly an after thought. ALSO NOTE: The Paper Trail FREE DLC is so very, very well done. With that addition this has to be a 9.5 - for metacritic I am revising this to a 10.

TL;DNR: 10 - Great story with superb voice acting, truly next gen graphics, great game play mechanics. However the meaningless "morality" system appears to be an after thought and should have been better developed, serviceable soundtrack, great atmosphere and overall a fun game with just a few annoying technical control issues (He Who Dwells will sometime have you run backwards despite pushing forward on the stick causing you to die - just as an example) in places but otherwise a great launch title for the next gen PS4. Recommended for those who like to roam a bit and also experience a story - not Mass Effect level of story telling but a good story none the less.

Technology/engine: 10 - The rendering is amazing and really brings Seattle to life. There was not a moment of delay or tearing - phenomenal engine behind this game with great depth, clarity and detail.

AI: 7 - Not the brightest nor the dumbest AI, its passable.

Graphics: 10 - Superb and very realistic graphics rendered flawless by the engine. Great use of motion capture and excellent, seamless integration of cut scenes.

Sound: 10 - The sound is fantastic with great distance and depth recognition and perfect sound effects and good use of the mini speaker on the dual shock controller.

Soundtrack: 8 - beyond the Nirvana cover there is not much out of the ordinary nor off putting about the soundtrack. I won't go out and buy it, but it was never a real factor in the game. Appropriate intensities to fit the situations.

Voice acting: 10 - Excellent voice acting all around. Well delivered dialogue that is very believable and appropriate.

    Crafting: N/A

Customization: N/A - Very minor part of the game - Custom vests are available as your free sectors (not very intuitive for changing them though) and you get to spend points as you acquire shards for the abilities that interest you. Not a lot of depth here but that is okay for the game that it is.

Game play systems: 10 - Simply fun game play with lots of side missions and quests. Paper trail -available about 1/3 of the way through, is a nice addition and works seamlessly with the PS4 and a tablet or PC. The abilities make sense and the game is forgiving if you mess up - just run and hide until you regenerate health. Great fun all around. The morality system was meaningless fluff however after your initial choice.

Controls: 7 - The controls are flawless except in the areas where they need to be flawless - boss encounters. I had a number of deaths due to controller errors and lack of responsiveness in boss battles and that is my only gripe.

Story:9 - Well written and great pacing to the game's story.

    Story:

The Story of Infamous. Second Son starts pretty funny and Delsin Rowe is a cool and funny protagonist. But at the end it gets very emotional. You can decide if you want to play good or evil, but the good side fits better to Delsin. Moreover, it's always clear which way is the good and which the evil one. If you switch between them, you lose Karma Points (=EP).

First of all I just have to say anyone who gives this game a red score is just an absurd Xbox fanboy (most of them have Titanfall Xbox 1First of all I just have to say anyone who gives this game a red score is just an absurd Xbox fanboy (most of them have Titanfall Xbox 1 version as a 10/10 with no review so don't take them seriously). Visually this game is stunning, the powers, the town, and the animations (especially the facial ones) are all incredible. Gameplay wise the controls are smooth and responsive and Sucker Punch actually did a decent job of making use of some of the dualshock controllers unique features without making it feel too gimmicky. The additon of "hipfire" makes the combat much more fluid and helps add movement and flow to the combat. And the powers do feel unique from each other and none of them are overpowered enough to make the others obsolete. However there are some things that keep this game from being any higher than a solid 8-8.5/10. First of all, the enemy AI occasionly bugs out at close range and just stops for a bit, nothing too bad and it will probably be patched later on but still kinda detracts from the action. Second, even halfway through the game and there is still only one enemy faction which does make the fights a bit stale but this somewhat countered by the relatively diverse number of enemies in this one faction. Third, the objectives do get somewhat repetitive when you're clearing the districts but this will only bother people who want to 100% the game. Overall one of (if not the best) game on PS4 at the moment and I would highly recommend it to series veterans (like myself) or to people new to franchise that are curious. And newcomers don't worry the previous games stories don't play a huge role in this game so you can get by with just a brief summary of the game's lore. Expand
