While I probably enjoy Katana Kami more as a cultural work than a game, such as it is, that’s so much more important to me anyway.
Katana Kami A way of the samurai story is a nice throwback to the PS2 era, with an interesting combat system and plenty of replay value, but also plenty of repetition and a dull UI.

Katanakami: A Way of the Samurai Story is on the easier side of the spectrum for a Mystery Dungeon title, but the way it infuses the genre with decent swordplay.
Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story is fairly likeable. Despite the small shell, there's depth to uncover and a lot of systems to engage with. Combat is interesting and you always seem to have a goal to work towards. Unfortunately, I feel the dungeon's repetitiveness can outstay its welcome but the online aspects and post-game content does try to give players something else to dig into.
As a Way of the Samurai spin-off is interesting, but there are better alternatives in this genre. It is enjoyable, but some of its ideas need better execution.
But by far the weakest part of Katana Kami is its user interface. Menus are rough to say the least. Even something as simple as switching weapons or organising your inventory can be a chore, often forcing you to click through several confirmation screens that aren't clearly signposted. It's just not good enough for a game that revolves around loot and item management.
Katana Kami: A Way Of The Samurai Story attempts to bring back a beloved PS2 franchise with a new twist. However, its lackluster execution and heavy repetitiveness leaves very little excitement in its wake. Fans might find some appeal here, but only consider this game if you're looking for a repetitive and simplistic dungeon crawler.
Summary The Way of the Samurai is forged in battle! Play as a ronin during Japan’s Meiji Restoration. The swordsmith Dojima falls into debt and his beautiful daughter is taken as collateral. Help repay the debt by crafting swords by day and exploring the mysterious, twisting dungeons of the Ipponmatsu Cave for valuable materials at night.
