Oddworld New ‘n Tasty is the perfect example of what a remake should be; it keeps a fantastic game and just adds every conceivable thing to improve it. There are too many awesome little touches to mention.

Seventeen years after its original release, Abe's Oddysee is still one of the most strange, brilliant, original and funny platform around. This new edition is, indeed, tasty, and no player should miss it.

If you are are still skeptical of giving it a go, maybe just try thinking of it as "an adventure through a genocidal meat factory with plenty of explosions and telepathy." That may change your mind.

Minor technical problems aside, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a game that recognises the limitations and shortcomings of the original. It addresses these, somehow making 17-year-old mechanics malleable, and shapes them into a mould that painlessly accepts contemporary production standards.

Anyone who enjoys puzzle games owes it to themselves to check out this series.

For some of the hardcore fans of the original, New ‘n’ Tasty may disappoint simply because it is different, but – as someone who saved every Mudokon in Abe’s Oddysee – I had a great time revisiting this classic.

When it works, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a beautiful, quirky, and devious puzzle platformer that deserves a spot alongside the likes of LIMBO, Another World and the original Abe’s Oddysee in the gaming canon. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work nearly often enough.

That's how all remakes should be made. This version of the game produced by J.A.W maintains what makes the original a classic while adding several improvements that don't comprimise the creative vision that the original had. For example, the game has added versatility in its difficulty, allowing people who felt frustrated with the original enjoy the game. Controlling Abe feels diferent, it feels better, the controls seem to respond better, but there was no loss of the feeling that I controling a real person, or should I say, a real creature. Somehow they managed to find that perfect balance betwen responsive controls and the feel that i am controlling a real penson. This has always been one of the things I liked most about the original games, the fact that you were controlling a real person, this combined with the extremely peculiar world that Lorne Lanning created passed that first positive first impression that the game provide, thats what called the player's attention. However, the appeal of the game went beyond that, it went far deeper, the game have excellent game mechanics and there's a sensational narrative, with several implied messages that can be reflected by the player, allowing him to take his own conclusions. More important than that is the fact that the gameplay is in total confluence with the story, it is totally different from modern games that compromise the story just because shoot 'em in the head is what sells,it isn't that game that developers create a cgi scene there they want you to care about the character, and when he gives you control of the character he send hordes of enemies for you to shoot , I don't see any person who can sympathize with a murderer. Any violence in oddworld, the creators can get away with it through irony. The gameplay isnt against the narrative, this is one of that special games that the gameplay doesnt work against the narrative, it works in favor of the narrative, making a emotional atachment with the player and the character of the game that few other mediums can achieve, its one of that special games that is very atmosferic. All the improvements help to create a more compealing atmosfere, the game looks more real than ever, the jump to 3D and no flipscreen help the game create a more cinematic feel ( sometimes the camera angles change ) . More important than ever is , despite being an all new game, this remake keeps what made the original apealing, it has its creative vision, it is a remake that remaster the classic to the 21st century. One of the things i absolute love about this game is the pace of it, it provides a nice challenge but at the same time it isnt that much that game that you are in constant battle and must have very fast reflexes, its a game that you can take your time, you have to be patient to be a good player, and the best thing is that because of the great controls i aways feel that i died because of me and not because of the game. I grew up with the oddworld series, and couldn't wait to play this might as well be new game, after all it's more then just a remake. That being said they did a great job at staying true to the oddworld we all knew and loved, yet feels fresh. Great graphics, sound, gameplay, everything! The voices are maybe a little quite, but that's just a nitpick. Otherwise perfect game! Buy it you won't regret it, especially if you want to see another oddworld game, this one needs so many sales. Abe's Odyssey was one of my favorite videogames. If you've never played it, you should almost certainly check this out. It's one of the better games on the PS4. If you liked the first game, this is almost obsessively the same, everything is just better. The graphics are better, the controls and mechanics are better. The cutscenes are better. Everything about it is better. Also, I never really noticed how violent this game is. I'm not one for games with a message, but this one kind of hit home. You are a mudoken, a slave, working in rupture farms. They got rich selling paramite pies and scrab cakes, but now the paramites and the scrabs are going extinct, and their profits are falling, so now they're going to eat you. You have to escape and save your friends, or let them die and see what happens. The graphics are wonderfully beautiful. Also, I tried getting the original 2 games on my Vita, but with L2 and R2 being mapped to either the nonfunctional rear touch pad or the front screen, the games are basically unplayable, for once I can play these games properly. And I get to play the best version. It's going to take a while to work my way through it because it's a pretty substantial game, but it appears that they have obsessively recreated the original and only made things prettier and better. It does all you can expect from an HD remake. It doesn't ruin the game (Silent Hill 2 HD Fog), it's the exact same game for better or worse. Maybe they could have innovated a bit, but that would just be messing with the source material and people would be angry. I can say with some certainty that this is a good game. I mean I already played it, so it's good, because I remember. How much better this is, is kind of up in the air. I like the graphics and PLEASE RELEASE THE VITA VERSION.... sorry.... sorry.... *tick* That's an unconscious reflex, it cannot be prevented. Well, I appear to have gone insane. It's a decent game, worth checking out, especially if you didn't play the original but *especially* if you've played the original. And look um, I've really been looking forward to this game, I like it, it's great. And if they reach some very modest sales targets, they're going to remake Abe's Exodus. Abe's Exodus was the better game. I want to see that happen. =( {Hey everybody go buy Rogue Legacy} Expand

I am a die-hard fan of the original. Sure, it had some flaws, but it was still awesome. I loved everything about it. The graphics, the controls, the game play, the puzzles, and especially the atmosphere. This remake is extremely surprising. It is the same game, but totally different. The controls, the level design, the game play mechanics. The game is like a completely new game. Which is a good thing. So if I were to mention what I loved about it, I would say that it has excellent controls, great level design, and is true to the original, yet offers something both fans, and new comers would enjoy. However, it does come with its own flaws. The Easy and Medium modes are WAY too easy (They even added a health bar). Some NPCs don't respond on time or get easily distracted (Happened to me once or twice, so it isn't that big of a deal). But the biggest complaint I have with it is that the atmosphere is completely gone. The game is now less creepy, and more comedic. The silly lines that Mudokens and Sligs mutter during game play are kinda annoying, and pretty loud. You can turn down the volume of voices, but still. I just love almost everything about this game, and would have given it a 9 or a 10, if it weren't for the atmosphere change. It felt less like an Oddworld, and more like a new game... But is that bad? Well... You decide. I am just providing my opinion. Expand

OddWorld games are so memorable to all PlayStation One fans. Having OddWorld remake based on its original news was one the best news for this gaming industry. The wait was totally worth it and the final product is just as awesome as I was expecting. Everything we loved about the original oddworld is here along with 3D graphics and a more living looking world. THe unique art style of the game is more appearing than before and its just fantastic with all the awesome choice of colors in the game.
gameplay is awesome, for the first time ever in the series we are actually able to adjust the difficulty, the game features lots of improvements over the original game and as well all the memorable environments and levels are all created in the 3D form.
the level of challenge is pretty much easy on normal difficulties so if u are looking for a true OddWorld experience then go for the hardest one. The number of MudKons are increased from 99 to 299 as well. Overall this game an awesome game and every penny you pay for it is worth it. Please buy and support this game !
only con i have to mention is the unnecessary co-op mode, i would have prefer more level of contents.

Great remake but this really is only a fraction of the old game.
Where are all the damn secrets? Hidden levels? jumping through your own
    doves?
It became rapidly clear the short falls of the game.
Maybe everyone who is reviewing this doesn't remember the first game.
You can throw rocks where ever, Yeah I don't know it lost a lot of the old challenging and frustrating oddworld that made abe such a challenge in the first place. The hardest part of the old game still in this is disarming the mines but that's it. In exodus I got so good I used to be able to disarm them on the short beep, now I can't disarm one to save my life I think there's an issue.
The strange thing is everyone was so angry at the MGS ground zeroes for being a two hour game at the cost of thirty dollars, this takes 2 hours minimium to finish don't believe me look at the leader boards, the game atm in Aus is thirty dollars.
Just take into account I was a massive fan of almost the entire series. Don't get me wrong if you in the hankering for some muddokon pops this is the treat for you, because there will only be scrab cakes after that.
    I don't get it.
