A great return to the Baker Manor. Bedroom is the best section of this DLC by far, presenting an amazing puzzle with tense situations. Nightmare and Ethan Must Die are modes with more action that makes them a little more generic. If you enjoyed Resident Evil 7's main game, you should check this expansion.
An interesting little package. You get a tense puzzle-focused escape room, a fun-as-heck action mode that I'm sure I'll be playing in the coming months, and a bastard-hard masochist-a-thon for those who want that. While I'm not a huge fan of Ethan Must Die, there'll be people out there who dig it, and those two tapes continue aspects of Resident Evil 7 that I'm hungry for.
Fantastic set of DLC. Bedroom seems influenced by misery from stephen king. Nightmare is a wave mode of sorts, and ethan must **** INCREDIBLY difficult extra mode.
Bedroom (8/10 Great): RE7 Bedroom is a fantastic extension of the base game’s puzzle-based Birthday section. The player is desperately trying to find a means of escape while locked in the Baker family’s master bedroom. Bedroom is a challenging puzzle but well worth playing through. My most memorable moment is finally discovering the solution to a three-combination lock after being stuck for over 20 minutes.
Banned Footage Vol 1 is quite a good DLC. On the 3 new modes, The Bedroom is really excellent, and the two others offers more action and replayability.
Like matriarch Marguerite's dishes, bonus mode Ethan Must Die will prove an acquired taste, but the two other VHS tapes included with Banned Footage Vol. 1 are a delight. Nightmare serves up some surprisingly smart arcade action that fans missing Mercenaries will surely enjoy, while Bedroom is brilliant puzzle sequence that subverts the rules of the main game in order to create a real sense of tension without requiring any enemies at all. There's no question that had this content been incorporated into the main campaign it would have been an even stronger package overall, but as a standalone it's still easy to recommend.
Although Bedroom is interesting, Nightmare and Ethan Must Die are nothing more than throwaway minigames, resulting in an underwhelming DLC pack that doesn’t live up to the Resident Evil name.
Banned Footage Vol. 1 should have been part of the base game at launch. There is no excuse for why this needed to be charged $10 when all you get is three things:
1) A new game mode called Ethan Must Die that rips off Capcom's other franchise Devil May Cry and brutalizes you in a Hell or Hell style that only the 1% will try and succeed in, which should have been included after beating Madhouse instead.
2) A short and forgettable Bedroom piece that could easily been another tape to be found in the story, much like the other ones you find. It's terrible for being too short, even on your first playthrough, and has no replay value, nor difficulty that adds variety to give you any other reason to go back into it. Once you seen it once, you seen it all.
3) Nightmare is surprisingly good: it gives players the mercenaries and raid mode in FPS that has you engaging in enemies and surviving the night. By using scrap and your wit, you create traps, weapons, ammo, health, mods and boosters that increases your chances. Unfortunately, this should have been hugely needed to be released at launch with the base game and charging even anything for it is just shameful.
Banned Footage Vol. 1 was cut content to be served as DLC to players. For shame on Capcom and their greedy corporate selves for even doing that. When you only give a new difficulty mode, a tape that is a bit more complex but still the same ideas as the base game's tapes and a survival mode for 10 bucks, that is the biggest f*ck you to me I have seen in quite some time. Even if I don't like Resident Evil 6 or Revelations 2, they at least had extra modes at launch to give players more than the campaign to enjoy. With this "dlc", Capcom has really hurt itself on giving me reason to play RE7 still. With the other footage and story episode yet to be played, I expect far better Capcom.
This dlc was released about a week after the release of the main game, i find this unacceptable profit maximizing, it makes me sick.
It is well packed with content for 10 dollar package, but it could have easily been fitted to the main game on the day of release.
Dlc package: 8/10
Capcom's morality 0/10
Total Score 4/10
SummaryThe first pack of DLC for RE7. See what went on with another poor victim that might look familiar to you, and find out how the Bakers became the twisted family you see in RE7.
