Take time to learn its ways, grasshopper, and this will become the most technical and rewarding MMA game you've ever faced. [August 2014, p75]
  2. Jun 25, 2014
EA Canada successfully create a realistic fighter with UFC that is definitely nextgen gaming!
  3. Jun 19, 2014
It’s hard to not like what EA has created so far in this new UFC franchise. While we may not see this title updated yearly like NHL and Madden, EA has assured gamers that updates and roster updates will come free of charge over time, so it should not become outdated or stale before the next big PPV event.
  4. Jun 24, 2014
Yes it is hard as nails, and yes it has some weird moments when it comes to animations, but anyone who invests a few hours into EA Sports UFC will find a deeply gratifying and fair sports experience. A must have for any MMA fan, not so much for anyone who looks for an easy win. EA Sports UFC demands dedication but that isn't a bad thing.
  5. Jul 4, 2014
EA have got their hands on UFC, and for their first release have promised to deliver a complete revamped engine; from the physics to damage modifiers, the fatigue system to the artificial intelligence. This game packs a serious wallop in terms of its features!
  6. Jun 30, 2014
EA Sports UFC is absolutely amazing to see in motion. It is a lot of fun to play, too, assuming you have some friends along for the ride.
  7. Jun 24, 2014
Even if it's not so spectacular, the gameplay system and the excellent learning curve of EA Sports UFC makes it a very good first try for Electronic Arts.
  8. Jun 23, 2014
EA Sports UFC is one for the MMA diehards, and while its learning curve feels like an endurance test at times, the game rewards perseverance with some very satisfying fights.
  9. Jun 23, 2014
It is far from a perfect game but the fighting, particularly striking, is the best it has ever been.
  10. Jun 20, 2014
The comparison with Undisputed is cruel, but EA Sports UFC is still surprising. EA has shown itself to be able to create a great game, thanks to high-quality gameplay, a great graphics engine, and a brilliant online sector. If this is only the first entry in EA's take on the UFC franchise, we can expect great things from the next iterations.
  11. Jun 18, 2014
It’s clear that EA’s UFC team bleeds martial arts. Everything about its new title – from the integration of UFC-branded videos to a roster including everyone from Jon “Bones” Jones to Ronda Rousey – has been painstakingly shaped into one of the most realistic depictions of the sport to date. The attention to detail makes the experience feel authentic, though not highly approachable.
  12. Jun 17, 2014
As polished as the graphics and presentation may be, the lack of options is apparent especially when compared to its MMA predecessor, UFC Undisputed 3. Perhaps that's not a fair comparison, but that's reality.

UFC fails to impress on the mat. [Aug 2014]
  14. Jun 27, 2014
There's hope that, in good time, EA Sports can nail once and for all what UFC is all about. This is an encouraging first try, still lacking some precision and strategy in ground fights, but bestowed with jaw breaking graphics.
  15. Jun 23, 2014
Much like EA MMA before it, this feels like a solid foundation for a better game to be built upon down the line.
  16. Jun 23, 2014
Powerful visuals and incoherent controls. Good striking and poor grappling. Consistent online matches and dull offline career. EA Sports UFC is a mixed bag of the best and the worst of MMA with tons of unexpressed potential that's ready to be unleashed.

For now, this is one for the hardcore. [Issue#246, p.68]
  18. Jun 25, 2014
From a technical point of view this new UFC is incredible but in terms of gameplay it lacks a deep career and a handful of different modes.
  19. Jun 23, 2014
Fans of the UFC will probably enjoy this game a lot, even though those who are new to the series will find it quite confusing. Tutorials are not as good as the should, and it lacks a training mode where practice our moves. Still, a good starting point for EA Sports.
  20. 75
While less emphasis on DLC, a practice mode, and a better explanation of the submission game would have been helpful, EA Sports UFC gets a no-contest from this reviewer.
  21. Jun 19, 2014
An often exhilarating and tense fighting game that's let down by flawed grappling mechanics.
  22. Jun 17, 2014
A winner, but by split decision. Some of the omissions like cut and leg stoppages, and the odd bug here and there, make for a debut that is certainly better than EA Sports MMA. Here’s the hitch though – somehow despite itself the game is ridiculously fun.
  23. Jul 9, 2014
UFC is a good fighting simulator, but with serious problems when it comes to learning how to play.
  24. Jun 19, 2014
UFC isn't as polished as it needed to be, but I suppose it'll give avid fans a thrill. There's plenty of content and if you've got the requisite diligence and patience, your training can really pay off. The designers do a good job recreating the tension and invigoration one feels when squaring off against an equally powerful opponent, and the freedom to create and build any fighter you wish is intoxicating. It's just too bad that the control can be extremely difficult to grasp, and the lack of balance concerning the damage inflicted by a strike is disappointing.
  25. Aug 28, 2014
UFC fans who live and breathe online or local multiplayer will easily have a ton of fun with this game, but those who'd rather play solo are best served by renting the title first or picking it up if it gets cheaper later on.

It sadly lacks the knockout power of the late THQ's Undisputed series. [Aug 2014, p.84]
  27. Jul 21, 2014
As an entire package UFC is definitely a step forward for the video game representation of the sport, there are obvious missteps but largely everything is progressive.
  28. Jul 7, 2014
With a career mode that’s well executed and a presentation style that’s almost without fault, EA Sports UFC comes out swinging on Sony’s newest console. Sadly, the title’s complicated controls make this a difficult title to pick up and play, but with the groundwork well laid, this new challenger hints at plenty of promise for the future.
  29. Jul 3, 2014
EA brings more depth and detail to its fighting game, though a fierce amount of glitches and framedrops keep it from gaining a legendary status. The absence of any kind of historical mode doesn't help much either.
  30. Jun 30, 2014
EA Sports has work to do with UFC series. This first chapter is spectacular and realistic, but it isn't fun or playable by novice players. Bruce Lee and other legendary fighters want a good punch.
  31. Jun 27, 2014
An above-the-average new sports -fighting franchise for EA Sports based on the UFC competition. Solid and well recreated, but needs some polish.
  32. Jun 25, 2014
There’s a good game at EA Sports UFC’s core, it’s just a shame that it’s not as seamless in its delivery as we’d hoped it would be.
  33. Jun 24, 2014
Like any athlete with a thirst for victory, EA Sports has a great opportunity to create something special with this brand. It's just not quite ready for its title fight yet.
  34. 70
EA SPORTS UFC has what UFC fans want--detailed, accurate fighting--but it leaves out what gamers want: options. UFC features some of the best visuals around, but the overall limitations leave this title best-suited for die-hard fans.
  35. Jun 20, 2014
EA Sports UFC may not be as fully fleshed out as UFC Undisputed 3 was, but it's a splendid starting point for what could be a powerhouse franchise for the team. The gameplay dials most of the right numbers, even with the simplified ground game, and the presentation nails the sport's authenticity, right down to that painful tap-out.
  36. Jun 19, 2014
I would recommend anyone with a little bit of interest in the sport and a lot of patience check out EA Sports UFC. There is a fun game in here somewhere -- it's just behind a lot of barriers.
  37. Jun 17, 2014
The career mode and realistic gameplay will gain the love of diehard UFC fans and hardcore sports gamers...However, the complicated controls and unpredictable striking mechanics will frustrate and confuse everyone else. There are also a number of bugs that need to be fixed.
  38. Jun 17, 2014
If you like EA’s first venture into the MMA world, you will probably like EA UFC. If you are a UFC fan, you will definitely like EA UFC. Heck, the roster is over 100 fighters huge, and that’s saying something. However, if you are a fighting game fan, this isn’t the game for you. If you are looking for a sports like simulation experience, this isn’t the game for you. If you aren’t looking to play with other players, this isn’t the game for you.
  39. Jun 17, 2014
The fighting is solid but I still think the ground game needs some tweaks in order to make it up to par with the stand up game.
  40. Jun 17, 2014
EA Sports UFC boasts incredibly detailed fighters and great combat. However, this debut effort from a new publisher lacks the single-player balance and the variety of modes that previous UFC games brought to the ring.
  41. Jun 20, 2014
I love the amount of respect the developers clearly have for every aspect of the sport, but reverence and attention to detail alone can’t stand in for a missing sense of danger and excitement.
  42. Jun 23, 2014
Fans of the brutal sport will find a decent and enjoyable game if they look hard enough. An excellent stand-up game is marred by a weak ground game. There's little little of substance beyond the polish, leaving THQ's UFC 3 as an undisputedly better game.

    Jul 29, 2014
A reserved attempt that's largely entertaining, but struggles to keep you coming back for more. [Sept 2014, p.68]
  44. Jul 6, 2014
EA Sports brings incredible graphics and details to the UFC franchise, but the rest sadly doesn't measure up to the high standard that THQ created. The career mode lacks depth and the combat has it's flaws.
  45. Jul 16, 2014
With EA Sports UFC, Electronic Arts takes the first steps in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As a newcomer to the octagon it shows potential, but next to a scrimpy career mode and entertaining online mode it has little to offer. The balance of the ground battles ensures that it is negligible, and the many small bugs and frame drops can sometimes get in the way of the otherwise fine visualization of the UFC stars.
  46. 60
A series of odd and unfathomable design choices means this is a game strictly for those, who live, eat and breathe UFC. Everyone else is better off waiting for the next iteration.
  47. Jun 28, 2014
EA Sports UFC is more talent than real contender. 2012's Undisputed 3 still looks great, gives the new kid a bloody nose in the octagon and is only a fraction of the newer games' price. Posthumously the THQ game still lives up to its name.
  48. Jun 26, 2014
A worse game than Fight Night Champion, especially because of its lackluster campaign mode. Matches are fast and aggressive, but also quite technical.
  49. Jun 26, 2014
A few tweaks are needed, but things are on the right track.
  50. Jun 23, 2014
On one hand, the mechanics are satisfying as timing counters and ground passes are down to precision. On the other hand, this is a light package that contains unpolished gameplay.
  51. Jun 17, 2014
EA Sports UFC is simply ok when it should have been great. Considering how long it's been in development, and the breadth of content at EA's disposal, I can’t help but be disappointed by what’s on offer.
  52. Jul 23, 2014
At a first glance EA Sports UFC looks amazing but after playing the game for a couple of hours it turns out to be something else. The Career Mode is repetitive and the controls are too complicated. The clinch and ground game don’t work nearly as well as fighting from a standing position. As a result EA Sports UFC fails at delivering the complexity of MMA-fighting.
  53. Jul 2, 2014
If you look at that game it’s difficult to see how this has taken such a giant leap backwards. With any hope the next iteration in this series will gravitate towards previous successes.
  54. Jun 26, 2014
EA Sports UFC feels barely held together, a collection of parts that are often as frustrating as they are poorly explained. Somewhere, in all of the complication and opacity, is a game unlike anything else out there, that finds the unpredictability and wildness that set MMA apart from other combat sports. But there's an awful lot of bad to dig through to find it.
  55. Jun 24, 2014
The graphical foundation is in place, but there are too many flawed combat systems to call this a strong debut for what's sure to be an annualized series. EA Sports UFC manages to make only certain aspects of MMA both fun and functional, forcing most fights to play out in a familiar, brawling fashion.
  56. Jun 19, 2014
Stressed and mediocre with rigid, robot-like striking and bad grappling.
  57. Jun 19, 2014
EA Sports UFC is form over function. It's all show, no go, a pretty fighter without the know-how to back it up in the octagon. The Ignite engine successfully delivers a game which makes casual observers double-take as they attempt to work out if they're watching the real thing or not, but anyone with the controller in their hand will know something is wrong.

The most obvious thing, it looks brilliant. It plays great, controls take some getting used to, but once you do they feel good and natural. Roster could be bigger, but I think I saw somewhere that we might get free DLC fighters (I'd say unlikely cosindering it's EA). THere is no way this game is a TEN, and there is no way this game is a ZERO either. It is disappointing, yes, from a simulation perspective. The game is not sim at all, it is an arcade fighter with some real life elements mixed in. If you like arcade style fighers, you will enjoy it. It is a fun arcade experience, but a terrible representation of real MMA. The roster is very lacking too. No TJ Dillashaw, no Diego Sanchez, lots of good fighters missing. EA needs to patch the stamina and AI to make fights more realistic. Full Review »
