The great news about Destiny of Spirits is that, as Free-to-Play games go, it's pretty awesome.
As far as role-playing games go, Destiny of Spirits may come across as sticking to the essentials. However, the GPS and social features are a nice touch, if not one we would have preferred to see in a DS Pokémon title, rather than a free-to-play Vita title.

It is fun and enjoyable game. I have been playing everyday since release.
Despite being the free game, it definitely is not pay-to-win game. The hp regen system is not very frustrating once you collect quite a few spirits as you can just rotate your team. The only currency which you need to pay is destiny obs and I get quite a few just from logging in daily. And it is also not necessary as the summoned spirits using the free currency is quite strong and I did not have any problem clearing the areas with those.
The only things I do not like are the poor aspect of the strategy in game, lack of PvP and fustrating trading UI. But I can cope with it since I do not need to spend single cent on that game and I am sure it is still improving since it only been like 2 week since release.

I have begun playing somewhere between ten and fifteen F2P games since the model was introduced. It's always the same: 1) This game is cool, and I haven't had to spend any real money yet! 2) This game is still cool but I'm rapidly running out of stuff to do without having to spend money. 3) I no longer play this game.
Destiny of Spirits has (at least for me) broken that pattern. I still haven't spent any money, but there are so many opportunities to pick up the three different currencies, that I am still having a blast. I only play for 30-45 minute chunks of time, but the visuals are gorgeous, the battles are just engaging enough to have a small level of skill involved, and I am finding myself thinking about the game while I'm at work. This, to me, is the hallmark of a winner. If you like turn based role playing with a simple ATB system, I recommend checking this out. It's the closest thing to actual "free" to play I've seen.

Destiny of Spirits is less inviting than a longform Biblical analysis at first, but the game gradually gets its hooks into you once you traverse its steep learning curve.
An authentic but a bit repetitive board and RPG-like adventure, one of the first Free to Play games available for PS Vita.
As is the case with any free-to-play game, you really have nothing to lose but time by trying out Destiny of Spirits. It helps if you're a hardcore Sony fan and strive for some of the more unique characters, but otherwise the pace is far too slow, and the rewards are far too little for the amount of time you need to invest in it.
Destiny of Spirits is very peculiar and interesting at first, but it soon becomes too much repetitive and dull while in-app purchases feel like mandatory at times.
I wouldn't spend money on it because it's a shallow grind hiding under some very pretty character design. In other words, it's great, but only at a cost of nothing.
Destiny of Spirits has a very catchy UI, very pleasing to look at. Much like Pokemon, you collect spirits from around the world to do battle to destroy chaos spirits. You can summon and hunt down spirits to add to your collection. The game uses your real world location to track where your at in order for you to get the spirits in your location. You progress by defeating areas that unlock other areas around it. Every day you get assigned luck, bad to great blessing. Only real negative for me is the combat is very basic. Wish it had a little more variety. It's free, so you should pick this up. Great game.

The gamplay is very boring as you have almost no input in battle, but the fun comes in collecting the spirits and levelling them up. But it is free to play so it is designed for you to get lots of gameplay in early so you get hooked but it is hard to progress later on without real money, as it takes the sprites forever to recover. It is best to log on once a day play until your spirits are exhausted then move on until the next day.

If you played Puzzle & Dragon, Quiz RPG The World of Mystic Wiz or any similar F2P game on mobile, you will instantly be familiar with Destiny of Spirits.
Like most of F2P, the game revolves around you spending real money in order to actually progress "faster" or keep playing without having to wait.
The gameplay is pretty dull and doesn't really require much input from the user beside activating skills and assigning targets. These are the only TWO actions you will ever do. So basically you are playing a Spreadsheet battle, you spreadsheet vs the computer spreadsheet. All you will be doing is killing the same monsters over and over, only numbers are going to increase with time.
The whole geolocation feature is just a gimmick and doesn't add much to the game. This feature would have been better if it was working more like Streetpass instead. Don't waste your time and money on this.
I really would like to see such business model to be purely and simply banned. Putting users in a skinner box to have them spend cash on a mediocre game is just an awful practice. This game could have had potential if it would have been sold like a retail product, proper £25~£30 pricatag, an actual gameplay, and a game design going further than a spreadsheet battle.
Do not download, don't waste your time. There are better titles out there on Vita.

Terrible.. It's a good game, but it has a lot of server issues which affects the game play quite a lot. If they fixed this sooner rather then later, as it has seemed to be going on for quite some time now, it would be much better.

So I downloaded the game last Sunday to check it out and failed to connect to their servers. After 20 or so tries, I gave up. So then I tried again on Tuesday morning. The game was down for maintenance. I had the day off, so I tried again later that afternoon. Servers were down for maintenance. Then I tried that evening. Servers were down for maintenance. It is now Wednesday, nearly afternoon. Servers are down for maintenance. They have a Twitter feed providing updates every 3-6 hours to remind everyone that they don't know what is causing the problem and they don't know when it will be fixed. Either I have terrible luck or this game is really a server maintenance simulator for inept developers. Either way, here's your zero, as it perfectly reflects my experience with your game.
Here's an update: It's now Thursday. The game is still down.
