It’s not the best game in the series by any stretch of the imagination, but that fantastic, fast paced, arcade-style gameplay is fully intact with Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS Force delivering one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had on the Vita in quite some time.
A good way to experience the basics of the terrific 'Extreme VS' games, but it absolutely falters compared to the rest of the series due to the lack of any sort of online play and a far smaller roster than it deserves. There's a long, content-rich campaign mode that ends up being far more fun than I'd ever expected. I sincerely hope later entries have a similar mode, but then also have online multiplayer.
Bandai Namco’s first attempt at localizing a Gundam game in many years comes with mixed results, as Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs-Force is a largely average experience.
At best, Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Force is a competent but dull beat-em-up with a few neat mechanics, and at worst a cluster of battles mostly controlled by the game’s AI, with only a small amount of help from the player.
Even the most hardcore Gundam fans will find it hard to say they enjoyed VS-Force. It may look and sound like a good game but it doesn't play like one. Poor controls, pointless story, and some crazy difficulty spikes leaves VS-Force missing the mark in almost every way.
Gundam fans who have been waiting for the series to come West should temper their expectations for Extreme VS Force — it's a clunky and uninspired mess.
