With the extensive customisation, robust level editor with instant access to the PS3 library, and overall polished track design, it doesn't really matter where the ideas in ModNation came from. It's one of the more complete packages in the Vita launch lineup, and also one of the safest bets in terms of having fun.
  2. Mar 21, 2012
All in all, it's still a fun experience and definitely the best racer on this console at moment!
  3. 80
Putting the disappointment about lack of online multiplayer aside, ModNation Racers: Road Trip's customisation is unparalleled and the action on the tracks fast-paced and exciting.
  4. Feb 15, 2012
The creation tools fit beautifully with Vita, but this feels familiar. [March 2012, p.74]
  5. Mar 22, 2012
Vita's controls give newfound oomph and the content system is compelling, but a lack of identity tempers things. [Apr 2012, p.105]
  6. Feb 27, 2012
Although this is a good racing game and adds interesting features like the use of NEAR and the new editor, it lacks the online multiplayer component, an absence we hope to be solved soon.
  7. Feb 23, 2012
The missing online mode is a huge disadvantage, luckily the game has an overwhelming editor.
  8. Feb 21, 2012
Funny and well developed. Suffers from some imperfections such as lack of online multiplayer. Recommended for lovers of the genre.
  9. Feb 20, 2012
Best of all, racing acumen matters-Road Trip doesn't operate on the "if you're in last place we'll give you a magic toy so you can win" logic of modern Mario Kart games.
  10. Feb 13, 2012
Come on Sony, where is the online multiplayer? Shame on you. The game is fun, has a great track creator, plays nice but there's no online multiplayer which is a bummer.
  11. Apr 17, 2012
Misses the point completely with the anemic multiplayer options. [Apr 2012]
  12. Creating your own track has never been easier or faster. Use your index finger on the front touch screen to draw the track. Then add some details and an impressive mountain range using the back touchpad and you are set to race. [March 2012, p.53]
  13. Feb 20, 2012
The sheer amount of content is the primary eye catcher here, immediately followed by the smooth controls. It's a shame the touch features don't always work as well as was promised and the lack of online multiplayer is a mystery even Sherlock Holmes won't be able to solve.
  14. Apr 12, 2012
It's still fun, but there are big handfulls of frustration thrown in too. [May 2012, p.79]
  15. Plays great, looks great, and there's enough in here to keep you entertained 'til next year but the lack of online multiplayer is a real blow. [March 2012, p62]
  16. Feb 23, 2012
None of these small gripes would kill anyone's enjoyment of the game, but given the lack of multiplayer, and the weak single-player, ModNation Racers: Road Trip is a huge missed opportunity for the casual fan, but the mod-tools are strong enough to appeal to the already converted fan of the franchise.
  17. Feb 23, 2012
Enjoyable, solid gameplay, smooth controls and lots of content and customization options. Too bad for it's problems with touch features and the lack of multiplayer online.
  18. Feb 21, 2012
A rushed packing job to hit the road and enjoy the adventurous escape of Vita's launch. It's got a lot to offer and has a wealth of good times in store, but with a little more time spent on getting things together this could've been the trip of a lifetime.

Takes a great kart racing series, and adds a much easier to use creating system. Touch screen controls make the track studio much more intuitive and easier to use. Not adding in head-to-head online racing is inexcusable in this day and age. While it doesn't totally ruin the experience, it does take away from the overall series.
  20. Feb 16, 2012
The portable incarnation of Modnation Racers beats its stationary predecessor.
  21. Feb 15, 2012
Great creativity options but poor racing experience for a game which doesn't evolve from the last ModNation launched on PSP. Still a good game, but with a big mistake: it lacks online modes.
  22. Feb 13, 2012
This isn't the most charismatic racing series around, perhaps, but Road Trip is a surprisingly enjoyable instalment nonetheless. It's colourful, cheerful and a decent showcase for Sony's brand new hardware.
  23. Feb 13, 2012
The menus bury the coolest stuff, the touch controls are peculiarly particular, and even though the Vita is a connected device, I feel alone when I play this. If you're looking for a bright and colorful kart racer with good mechanics, ModNation Racers: Road Trip fits the bill, but it doesn't excel anywhere else.
  24. Feb 13, 2012
ModNation Racers remains a bastion for creativity, and I can only hope its focus on user-made content influences other kart racers and the racing genre as a whole. Road Trip's new touchscreen controls further refine content creation, but they aren't a game changer. Unfortunately, the lack of online multiplayer is.
  25. Feb 15, 2012
With so much emphasis on sharing, the fact that there's only local multiplayer is frankly puzzling. More time should have been spent on what matters instead of fun gimmicks to promote hardware functionality.
  26. Feb 14, 2012
Does not stand out in any way and disappoints with its lack of internet multiplayer. [March 2012, p.77]
  27. Feb 17, 2012
The single-player career mode and customization options make this a fun diversion, but it's not as addictive or polished as Mario Kart, it lacks key features, and it fails to take full advantage of the Vita's hardware. This is a bargain-bin purchase for people who love kart racing, not a must-own title for gamers of all stripes.
  28. Apr 28, 2012
ModNation Racers is nothing to write home about, and is best compared to standing still in traffic during rush hour. You'll stand still, pull up slightly, hit the brakes, and stand still again. Not even beautiful scenery will rectify this road trip.
  29. Apr 9, 2012
More of a "create your content" rather than a "create your content and play" game. Granted, it's entertaining, but it is obvious that ModNation for Vita is a rushed product.
  30. Apr 2, 2012
Poor driving mechanics and flawed level design makes this title a bad choice for those who are interested in good kart games. But the high amount of customization options makes it an excellent choice for creative people.

While Road Trip definitely does not deserve a 9 or 10, it still is a great casual kart racing game that will offer alot of fun. The downsidesWhile Road Trip definitely does not deserve a 9 or 10, it still is a great casual kart racing game that will offer alot of fun. The downsides are the lack of an online multiplayer mode, a noticeable visual downgrade from the PS3 version, and the sluggish in-game menus. The frame-rate isn't as bad as everyone says it is- though it's definitely not even close to 60fps. Overall it's fun if you like action and creating stuff. Full Review »

I've downloaded perfectThis game is fun, the graphics are there, the soundtrack is fun, and the customizable features are super addictive. I've downloaded perfect mods of sonic, Mario, commander Shepard, and spider man! Now all we need is an online feature. This is my first MNR game, if it had an online feature I would never leave my house. Full Review »

Great game. I really couldn't care less that the online play isn't here, as I didn't pick it up expecting it. Sure it would be nice but IGreat game. I really couldn't care less that the online play isn't here, as I didn't pick it up expecting it. Sure it would be nice but I don't buy games expecting it unless its an mmo. The game is fun, and lets us customize carts and tracks, which is fantastic. Graphics are pretty good, especially for a launch title. Pick it up for some fun on the go, without requiring large investments of time. Full Review »
