    An inexpensive, visually beautiful chess game to play on your handheld with the inclusion of pass and play, allowing your friends to join in. The lack of online multiplayer is the reason it is not given a perfect score, however as far as chess games go, this is by far the best alternative for fans wanting to play it on the go.

    This is an excellent and beautifully presented chess game. The game does feature local pass-and-play multiplayer, some reviews have stated that this is not the case. That is wrong.

    Hard to believe this is the first chess game on the PSN. Graphics are pretty. Good use of touch screen. No multiplayer- I'm sorry, but in this day and age thats almost unforgivable. There's no reason why this should not be there. They have "play-by-mail" multiplayer, but it's a huge pain. Extended tutorial and lots of puzzles will keep your interest. Day one DLC is also a bummer. $3 for an extra table and set? Computer sometimes makes interesting (read: dumb) and questionable moves. If you're a chess fan don't hesitate to throw down the $8 for the this game but for people on the fence there's probably a better choice out there for you, including the multitude of free versions available on the web.… Expand

    Developer VooFoo Studios seems to have lost sight of what makes chess special – playing with other people seamlessly – and this sad fact detracts from Pure Chess significantly.

    Pure Chess's basic game and artificial intelligence are appropriate for beginners and experts alike, with many tutorials and challenges to keep single players busy. However, the lack of multiplayer outside of the crawling message play hurts a game that is, by its very nature, a two player game, and it isn't aided by flow-breaking input problems.
