It's good, chaotic fun and has a baseline level of quality and polish that's pleasing to see. If this is your first Wipeout game, chances are you'll have a blast. For veterans, however – especially those schooled in the delights of HD and Fury – this game just isn't as smooth in feel or as elegant in design.
  2. Feb 13, 2012
It's a tracklist that gels brilliantly with the stark visuals of the game, creating an air of cool and a sense of style that few games can match. Sure, it's a style you've seen in countless iterations of Wipeout, but it still works brilliantly. Coupled with the exciting racing, lengthy campaign, and multiplayer modes, Wipeout 2048 is fantastic fun and a great addition to the series.
  3. Feb 6, 2012
It's a competent racer, but Wipeout 2048 feels too familiar for its own good. Long loads and underwhelming touch controls don't help the matter, and may dissuade anyone who isn't a longtime fan of the series. [Mar 2012, p.95]
  4. Feb 16, 2012
Sure, the multiplayer is interesting and the unlocks might keep some gamers entertained for a while, but it won't be long before playing the same ten tracks on repeat becomes fairly monotonous.
  5. Feb 13, 2012
Some minor multiplayer issues and overly long load times do little to change the fact that WipEout is back in the palm of your hand, and it's better than ever.
  6. Feb 20, 2012
I definitely think Wipeout 2048 is worth checking out, and from what I've seen it seems to be the racing game to beat amongst the Vita launch titles. I've heard and seen dubious things from both Modnation Racers and Asphalt (and Ridge Racer is MIA at the moment), so if you need to get your racing fix this seems like the way to go. It's a legitimately great experience on the new handheld, and looks absolutely fabulous on the OLED screen. I highly recommend picking it up.
  7. Feb 22, 2012
The Wipeout effect is always the same: on any console you always have to run another race.
  8. Feb 14, 2012
WipEout is just as visually impressive and, more importantly, every bit as fun as it's ever been in 2048. It's not without a few small problems, but it provides an exciting experience for racing fans, be they series newcomers or longtime WipEout followers. As of Vita's release time and much of the foreseeable future, this 17-year-old franchise will lay claim to the title of the system's overall best racing game.
  9. Feb 15, 2012
It is the same Wipeout formula we have enjoyed before both on the PS3 and the PSP, but with outstanding graphics and a much better control thanks to the use of the dual analog sticks. The motion sensor use is an extra mode that is not that good, but the use of the touch screen is perfect. It might not be the best Wipeout in the series, but is one of the best titles in the launch of PSVita.

    Feb 15, 2012
Still a class product - gorgeous, playable and supremely fast, though it hasn't changed much. [March 2012, p.70]
  11. Feb 6, 2012
Despite extended loading times and a campaign structure that relies too much on combat events, 2048 is an interesting launch title for Vita. It may sound strange, but this episode tells the story of the series' evolution, and old time fans will fall for it.
  12. Mar 9, 2012
Despite the load time issues, the game is a great option for either ten minutes or two hours of playtime. Diversity of genre is important to have at a system launch, and in a crowded early library for racers, Wipeout clearly stands out as the best of the pack.
  13. Feb 13, 2012
Series fans will find a lot to love here, with plenty of new challenges, though those new to the series may find themselves frustrated with touchy controls and unforgiving levels. If you really need to go super-fast at Vita's launch, this one could fit the bill. Otherwise, there are more accessible launch racers out there.
  14. Feb 28, 2012
Wipeout 2048 brings to Playstation Vita all the greatest features from the series. If you are looking for a game full of adrenaline and that is technically solid, this is definitely a product for you.
  15. Feb 21, 2012
Wipeout doesn't show anything really new on PS Vita, but it's a game you will love.
  16. Feb 13, 2012
There's also no denying that Liverpool has overextended itself just a bit with Wipeout 2048. At its best, it's incredibly fast and beautiful; breathless, even. The little compromises chip away at the experience though, from the framerate to the slightly chunkier handling. It's a tremendous racer as always; but as far as grand ambitions go, Liverpool has fallen a tiny bit short.

Everything about 2048 oozes class, screams quality and does more than enough to force the hardcore to take a serious look at Vita. [Issue#119, p.92]
  18. Feb 13, 2012
Yes, Wipeout 2048 conjures a less fanciful racing grid than we've seen previously, and it's also a less immaculate, less finessed racer than the home console iterations of the series we've played down the years. Instead, it's an attempt to try something new on the newest of platforms. While it may not offer something for everyone, when it flies, it soars.
  19. Feb 21, 2012
WipEout 2048 is the best racing game in the PS Vita's launch line-up. The lack of 60 fps is a shame, since this game is mainly focused on speed and smoothness. This and the very long loading times are the main issues of a really good game.
  20. Feb 13, 2012
With stunning graphics, strong tracks, and a great soundtrack, Wipeout 2048 is a solid launch offering for the PlayStation Vita, even if the load times will make you want to make you throw yourself in front of your own hovercraft.
  21. Feb 13, 2012
The loading times are horrible. But despite that the game is just fun. Come on, it's WipEout. You know you can expect a good quality game.
  22. Feb 13, 2012
Studio Liverpool also reasserts its uncanny ability to perfectly match a contemporary soundtrack to its games, though the amount of tracks is a little limited and there's no support for your custom tunes...The loading times, however, are simply unforgivable.
  23. Feb 13, 2012
A great showcase for the PS Vita and at times as good as WipEout has ever been, despite a few questionable options and graphical issues.
  24. May 19, 2012
WipEout 2048 hardly surprises, but it doesn't have to, because the WipEout formula still works very well. A good multiplayer mode, a few smart adjustments and additions alongside the fantastic graphics, delightful soundtrack and superfast and tight gameplay make WipEout 2048 possibly the best launch game for the PlayStation Vita.
  25. As you'd hope from the series, this is faster than Usain Bolt with rockets on his feet and a perfect showcase for Vita's technical heft. Avoid the new dumbed down controls and this is as pure and addictive a racer as you'll find on any handheld.

    Apr 17, 2012
Fast, fluid and stylish scifi racer. The multiplayer mode works very well. [Apr 2012]
  27. Feb 13, 2012
This WipEout 2048 is a true technology feat. Visually sublime, fast as hell, it's a comprehensive game as well. If the 3 seasons of the solo campaign will not challenge much until the last races, they will make a good training for the enhanced strategic elements, before heading into the multiplayer campaign. A splendid title, perfect for nomad play.
  28. CD-Action
    Feb 14, 2012
A very good racer that makes proper use of Vita's power. [March 2012, p.76]
  29. Feb 20, 2012
Wipeout 2048 isn't just one of the best launch games (an achievement in itself, as the standard is very high), it's also one of the best games in an excellent series.
  30. Feb 23, 2012
Wipeout 2048 is the insider tip amongst PS Vita launch titles. The good graphics, the new game modes and new features, most notably the cross-play with the PS3, are very convincing. Although there are only ten tracks and long load times, the increasing difficulty, the tough battle races and the background music speak for themselves.
  31. Feb 14, 2012
The ability to skip challenges after failing multiple times and an inconsistent driver assist option does nothing to make the game accessible to anyone that lacks serious dedication.
  32. LEVEL (Czech Republic)
    Mar 22, 2012
Well done job as usual with minimum experiments. This is WipEout 2048 a game which does not surprise nor disappoint. [March 2012]
  33. Mar 21, 2012
It may not be your traditional racer but if you want to try something different in the world of racing games, than Wipeout 2048 is definitely a game you should investigate. It contains some brilliant gameplay, great graphics and lots of replay value, especially with the inclusion of online.
  34. Feb 23, 2012
Great visuals, sounds, controls and overall gameplay make for a remarkable experience on a portable device.
  35. Feb 13, 2012
Then we have the tilt controls, to which we say, don't bother. It was novel of Sony to attempt to implement Vita's gyroscope to transform the handheld into a steering wheel, but it's tough getting the hang of, if at all.
  36. Feb 13, 2012
WipEout's lovely. Yes, the loading times are a problem (but hopefully due to be fixed a little with a patch) and some of the track design needed smoothing out a touch, but overall it stands as a showcase for a new console that's only matched by the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
  37. 80
2048 is one of the best launch games on the Vita, and easily the best racer, speeding past Ridge Racer and Asphalt Injection. Compared to other WipEouts, the new edition doesn't bring that much new to the table, despite being a reboot of sorts, but it doesn't need to – it's a refinement of the series that takes most of the best parts of the franchise and packs it into a powerful handheld title.
  38. 90
Despite the long loading times (typically 50 seconds before each track) and the excruciating learning curve for non-pros, WipEout 2048 offers a tactically exciting, rewarding and challenge campaign mode with some gloriously-designed tracks and nice variety of events.
  39. Feb 16, 2012
There's an inevitable faltering in the fact that this is 'merely' WipEout again – there's not too much that can be done with the formula, but to be honest there's little we'd want to see done to change things up. Though a crossover with PSone's Rollcage, thus adding wheeled vehicles, would be pretty nifty. All the same, this does mean you're getting a game made up of a very good experience – but a very good experience you've played through seven times before. Eight if you had an N64. WipEout 2048 still comes with an unconditional recommendation.
  40. Feb 16, 2012
There's plenty of content, it's flashy and pleasing in so many ways, the presentation is singularly appealing, and the gameplay is rock solid. The load times are oddly slow and visibility can be a problem but for the most part, this is a highly enjoyable experience.
  41. Feb 27, 2012
WipEout 2048 may not have a particularly challenging multiplayer campaign, and it may have particularly challenging loading times, but that's not to say it's a failure. The singleplayer component alone is worth the time and money, easy to access, difficult to master, and deeply satisfying to play; combined with stunning graphics and the surprising presence of a pervasive artistic statement – rare in video-games generally, let alone racing games – 2048 is a fascinating and entertaining beast.
  42. Playstation Official Magazine Australia
    Mar 4, 2012
Amazing to look at, great to play. Forgive the tardy loading times and this is a winner. [March 2012, p63]
  43. Feb 20, 2012
WipEout 2048 is an excellent entry in the series on Sony's new portable. Visually there aren't many differences when in comparison with the PS3 version. Its only fault is the simplicity of its contents such as events and goals.
  44. Feb 16, 2012
Some technical issues aside, the future racing on Vita is really entertaining.
  45. PSM3 Magazine UK
    Mar 22, 2012
    It's fast and it's beautiful - but mostly it's classic WipEout. [Apr 2012, p.104]
  46. Mar 4, 2012
It's absolutely gorgeous. But loading times and challenging races results in a game that doesn't really fit the portable format.
  47. Feb 26, 2012
At its core, Wipeout 2048 is a solid arcade racer, but it suffers from a few too many poor design decisions to truly shine. Die hard series fanatics will still find a lot to enjoy, but mileage may vary for first time players.
  48. Feb 15, 2012
It may not be the most progressive title of the PS Vita's launch lineup, but it's a worthy addition to its stable.
  49. Feb 16, 2012
It can be hard to look past the game's technical issues, which include insane pre-race load times and a frame rate that tends to rob the traditionally breakneck hover racer of its sense of speed. Toss in a UI that's a little too slick for its own good and you end up with something a little more ho-hum than you might be expecting.
  50. Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
    Mar 5, 2012
Avoid the new controls and this is as addictive a racer as you'll find on a handheld. [Apr 2012, p.57]
  51. Feb 20, 2012
The thrill of velocity is less keenly felt on the game's ubiquitous loading screens, which regularly ask players to wait upwards of 45 seconds for a race to begin.
  52. Feb 16, 2012
Essentially, WipEout 2048 is the perfect advertisement for what the PS Vita is capable of in terms of in-game aesthetics. It also serves to demonstrate that the system's games do not need to engage with all of its features to pass Sony's certification criteria.
  53. 90
This is the best Wipeout in a long time, and the best introduction to the series a newcomer could wish for.
  54. Feb 16, 2012
Maybe the games' designers will clear up upcoming tracks from some of the visual ballast to take out some of the hecticness of some races and maybe even shorten the almost painfully long loading times. The basics are there, to be sure, to dub the astonishingly good looking WipEout 2048 as racing fans' first choice when the Vita launches on February 22nd.
  55. Mar 15, 2012
While Zone mode is damn near worth the price of admission alone, it's time for Studio Liverpool to refresh the franchise with some big ideas or hand it over to someone who will.
  56. Feb 13, 2012
You're going to have a blast with WipEout 2048. The intensity, controls, level design and music make this a must-have for all racing freaks looking forward to Sony's new hardware.
  57. Hyper Magazine
    Apr 12, 2012
Easily one of the best looking launch titles available. [May 2012, p.78]
  58. Feb 23, 2012
WipEout's core experience – fast races, awesome music, and incredible graphics – are better than they've ever been in WipEout 2048. However, the game's more experimental features like motion controls and touch interface fall flat.
  59. Feb 20, 2012
If not for the irritatingly long loading times, this might well be the best launch title for the PlayStation Vita Sony has in store for us. The feeling of speed still provides a satisfyingly big wow-factor, while the cross-platform options turn this title into a handheld pioneer. A must-have for every Vita-owner.
  60. Mar 4, 2012
Despite its visual consistency with the previous titles that share the family name WipeOut 2048 represents a concerted attempt to evolve the series in interesting ways, while making shrewd, restrained use of the new handheld's features. In this aim it finds mixed success, often sacrificing finesse in exchange for novelty, but in that creativity a new energy and revived sense of character can be found.
  61. Official PlayStation Magazine Benelux
    Mar 4, 2012
Deploying a series of a deadly mines and hearing that soft, distant bang behind you when your opponents run into them is still as satisfying as ever. The same goes for taking the top spot in the final seconds of a race thanks to a conveniently placed speed pad. [March 2012, p.48]
  62. Feb 23, 2012
The graphics are fantastic, the gameplay is tight and - while lacking the customisation introduced in Wipeout Pulse - the soundtrack is good. It's let down by long loading times and a short-ish campaign, but Cross-Play gives it both a little added longevity and makes it into a bit of a 'feature highlight' game. It's a must-have Vita game - just make sure you set aside time to play it.
  63. Feb 16, 2012
It's blistering fast, pounds the pulse in all the right ways and scratches that racing itch.

The circuits are very detailed with steady above 30 fps. The physics engine is the same as Fury-HD on PS3. The visual play looks awesome, the control is steady. However you may dislike the wait cause every time you must wait for 60 seconds long until the initial race-loading completes. The multiplay is sometime interrupted by sudden network connection losts due to authority server out of sync.
