  1. It's merely coasting on the competency of an engine that's good-enough to recycle last year's features without improvements, rule changes or a playable Michael Jordan.
  2. In some ways the game has actually suffered--with its fluctuating frame rate and choppy animation--when compared to last year's game.
  3. It offers nothing new and improved. If you’re a fan of the series and absolutely must have the updated rosters, then you may want to... uh, forget it, don’t buy it anyway!
  4. If NBA ShootOut 2002 does come in contact with eyes flush with water and induce vomiting.
  5. I guess the developer of this game didn’t get the memo about zone defense. [Nov 2001, p.220]
  6. Even if I never played "NBA 2K1" or "NBA Live," I'd still know this game sucks. [Nov 2001, p.122]
  7. Until 989 wakes up and smells the coffee and they will continue to dwindle in mediocrity and play second fiddle to Sega Sports and EA.
  8. A shot in the arm that makes me enthusiastic about a PS2 ShootOut prospect. [Nov 2001, p.166]
  9. 50
It would be wise to send ShootOut 2002 to the showers unless you simply must have updated player rosters and the questionable touch-shooting feature.
  10. The create-a-player mode (welcome to the 1990’s - it’s 2001 already) and dunk editor didn’t make us bat an eyebrow...It’s an unwelcome rehash of a franchise that screams for a complete overhaul.
