The most superior skateboarding game I've ever seen or imagined, and it's got to be one of the most technically impressive games I've ever seen.
  2. It's one of those games that will keep you coming back long after you've mastered it.
  3. 100
Fun, addictive, and exciting -- you couldn't ask for more in a game. Tony Hawk may not have the graphic flair of the Dreamcast, but it goes to prove that looks aren't everything.
  4. Tony Hawk definitely contributed all of what he knows that makes skating fun and incorporated it into a game that lets anybody feel like a professional skater.
  5. It's a breath of fresh air to play such an entertaining and well done video game. Since I'm a fan of skateboarding, I truly appreciate the quality of work put into this product, but skaters and non-skaters alike will find this game a joy to play.
  6. The spirit of skateboarding in game form. Truly amazing. [Jan 2004, p.189]
  7. A game with such huge scope that you can master it at your own pace and have a great amount of fun while doing it, Tony Hawk's Skateboarding will win you over.
  8. It was so easy to get into that I was almost fooled into thinking the real-life sport could be that easy.
  9. If you’re looking for a damn good skateboarding game, on any platform, start here.
  10. Neversoft has captured the feeling of the sport as it has never been before. Dirty, gritty and real. You can almost feel the scraped knees.
  11. Nothing has been sacrificed and the quality and expertise of the Neversoft designers, coders and artists shine through in grand fashion.
  12. It may be a little too daunting for anyone other than hardcore gamers and/or boarders, otherwise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater might very well be the perfect video game.
  13. Not only have I never played a better skateboarding title on the PSX, but I don't believe I've ever played a better skateboarding title ever, on any platform.
  14. Easily the best game of its type on the PlayStation.
  15. This game is simply phenomenal, from its representation of the sport, to its incredible gameplay, all the way down to the brilliant sound effects.
  16. The only real complaint I have with Tony Hawk's is the fact that the game gets very samey after a while.
  17. The new benchmark in skateboarding games with its realistic game play, cutting edge sound track, and surprising game depth.
  18. Neversoft deserves a standing ovation for this one... Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is an epiphany.

The game that made Tony Hawk a household name was certainly worthy of all the praise it received. Importantly the controls felt very natural meaning that with a bit of practice it was possible to pull of all manner of tricks and combos. It certainly looks dated now but even today it is more than playable. Full Review »

Considering how much the series has improved, all the sequels are much more recommendable. This one is for the hardcore fans of the series. Buy Pro Skater 3 instead. Full Review »
