  1. The racing gameplay is straightforward and although there are unlockables, there isn't enough to increase the replay value score. The wireless multi-player mode will be the game's only salvation in terms of replay value.
  2. Cars is a good adaptation of the Pixar film, providing a fun kart racer appealing to the younger crowd, with racing AI good enough to captivate older racing game fans.
  3. An enjoyable romp for those new to the genre and old hands alike.
  4. Cars is a really solid racing game for the PlayStation Portable. What is a shame is that the game is extremely straightforward in its concept and execution which means that there isn’t a lot of variety other then just racing.

What Cars does deliver, however, is a great racing experience for fans of the movie that want what the big boys have, while still enjoying the character and light-hearted feel of the Disney/Pixar label. It doesn’t have the free-roam feel of the console versions, but it does deliver far more entertainment with pure driving and tight control.
  6. A well-rounded game that mixes crisp graphics, decent-but-repetitive sounds, and a quirky arcade-style racing system similar to that of Mario Kart.
  7. With three race varieties available, grand prix, time trial, and one on one boss races, and unlockable racers and paint jobs, Cars offers a fair bit of replay value.
  8. Cars for the PSP is hardly a game any driving fan should just run out and buy. It's a solid little racer that will certainly hold some appeal to fans of the movie, and any younger players with a PSP ought to get a kick out of it. However, those with more discerning driving tastes might want to give Cars a test drive before taking the plunge.
  9. Although Cars is no real match for the all-conquering "Ridge Racer," its unexpectedly speedy action makes it well worth a test drive nonetheless. [Oct 2006, p.98]
  10. Cars is good, but it's not great, and that's the problem. The one genre that the PSP has been very, very blessed with thus far is the arcade racer. Between "Burnout Legends", "Ridge Racer" and the amazing "WipEout Pure", there's just no room for good here.
  11. The PSP is already blessed with great racing games, but what it doesn't have is a racer to satisfy those not interested in white-knuckle competition. Cars fills the niche perfectly.
  12. If you absolutely love the movie (or your kids do) then get the game, but if you want a good racing game, get something better (i.e. Burnout, Wipeout, Race Driver 2006, Ridge Racer, OutRun 2006 or even Need for Speed Underground).
  13. Cars has its flaws and frustrations, but it does a nice job of wrapping up a decent arcade-style racer in a very shiny package. Unfortunately, not even the crisp visuals, hopping cars and dynamic tracks help it pull ahead of the huge pack of racers already available for the PSP.

It's okay. It's good. It's bland. It's inoffensive. It's a film license. It's for kids. It's about cars. It's got Owen Wilson's voice in it. It's everything you'd expect from it. Nothing more. Nothing less. [Issue 143, p.100]

If you're going for sheer quality, the PSP version of Cars is the best of the handheld games based on the movie.
  16. Cars is by no means a terrible game, just a very average one. And 'average' is not the sort of thing you'd expect anyone to happily spend £30 on. Go see the film five times instead.
  17. Even if you're a "Cars" nut, there's very little to get excited about on the PSP besides teh movie clips included in this game. [Aug 2006, p.82]

probably one of the most fun arcade style games on the PSP. Really fun levels and looks great too. I had my doubts but after playing it i was hooked.
