A good example of how not to do a first person shooter on a handheld. Everything about this game is average, from the bland levels to the repetitive gameplay. It doesn't help that the controls are terrible on the PSP hardware no matter what configuration you use. Skip this one.

I think that this came as a low score becuase it take about 2days to understand. The reason that this is probably the best FPS is that its the only one for the PSP out now thats a full-blown shooter. The reason i think its a 10 is because the visuals look and feel great. This is a must get game for any PSP owner!! DAVID SOMEN RULES!! which is my old friend i said about in a review in thug2.

I think Coded arms is a great game and should be high on your PSP essentials list the graphics are supurb and the explosions and gunfire are brilliant repetive gameplay is only a slight fault in Coded Arms.

Lets face it consols are just not the right platform for 1st peson shooters. consols are great for fighting games driving games puzzle games and platform games just not FPS games and stratagy games. now before you shoot me down here are the good points of the game, it looks great and there are plenty of action moments the down side is that the PSP is not made for fast FPS, its just to cumbersome. those of you out there who have never played a FPS the way its ment to be played (on the PC) will think this game is the best thing since sliced bread. those of you who agree that consoles are not made for FPS will think this game far to cumbersome.… Expand

it the best shoting game ever 100% i am the best you now na but it a very good game play if you don't belive me.

If you are a PC 1st person shooter fan you will find this game cumbersome. The button combinations were difficult to get used to. This is especially true if you are used to a keyboard and mouse arrangement like I am. The graphics were nice, but the game was a little too dark. I was hard to see enemies unless you zoomed. I think I'll stick with my PC for this kind of game format.

WOW....all I can say is....Ignore the reviews from some of the so called big web review sites and play this game, ok the controls take a few minutes to get used to, but you can customise them fully for you perfect setup...the graphics are truly a wonder and you will find yourself amazed this is a handheld game...the whole thing I find so addictive to just pick up and play....load times are quick....the sound and music that builds when enemies are near really add to a frantic shooting experience...and also you get wifi mutliplayer just in case you were thinking about not buying it...… Expand

At first.. i was bored to tears..no wait, scratch that.. at FIRST i was fighting the stiff inaccurate controls, then i was bored to tears. Self determination won out over time, however and after a couple levels into the game, things got better.. better weapons, more interesting arenas, slightly cooler enemies.. all in all a decent effort, though i have to echo the negative comments listed above. not a whole lot here beyond shooting one enemy after another in brainless repetition again and again and again... It's definatly no shrunk down Half-Life, Far Cry, Socom, Halo or even a Doom.. it's probably the most repetitive FPS i've played, but it still might help get you through the PSP game dryspell and can be fun if your dying to play a FPS on your PSP. As a side note, i played Socom for PSP at E3 this year and it remedies almost all these problems(with some control tinkering)..and will definatly be a must have when available.… Expand

The good point is, that the control scheme is very flexible and you can move around easyle after some ten minutes. The bad point is, that after the same amount of time the game already gets boring, because you just encounter huge box-rooms that are joined by doors, tunnels an elevators. Even with different graphic-settings, everything looks the same afte a while. While the graphics have some nice drawing effects, the animations of the robots are stiff and every rooms looks more or less the same. The Progammers mixed them ramdomly together, but it would have been better, whne they made the effort for a true campain with memorizable locations. This just looks like a basic random map generator for quake. For single player, the only thing that is supposed to keep you up playing, are weapon updates, but this is not enough. There is no story nor a different goal than finding an exit. Even for the first FPS on the PSP this is a bad game.… Expand

Best graphics on PSP, alot ppl rate it like a system but it is awesome the controls are easy and the gameplay gets challenging but rooms are like walk-in and kill I still give it a ten.

This is a solid FPS. The one problem is that peopl etry to compare this to games like halo 2 and doom. But what you dont realize is that you are playing an ok first person shooter on a portable. so what is the storyline is crap. it has great graphics and keeps you entertained.

Not as satisfying as Death Jr. or Dead to Rights, but still fun and visually appealing. The controls are a little ackwards, but older gamers used to the strange control schemes seen in FPS's from the PS1 days will feel some deja vu here. The graphics and sounds are very atmospheric, however, and I have enjoyed my time with this game, unlike some other FPSs on other consoles.

I think the game is good but then its almost like a reject of The Matrix. But its still cool shooting robots!

It's a good game....easy to control and play.....

Coded Arms has many of the ingredients of a great FPS but the meal wasn’t cooked yet. It reminds me of another Konami PS2 launch game, Zone of Enders. While they are two totally different games their position was similar: to be the pioneer of a new genre on a new system. Both have outstanding visuals, controls that took some getting used to and not much more to offer. Like Zone of Enders, Coded Arms isn’t a terrible failure, but it isn’t exactly fun or memorable either. The controls are easy enough to learn but don’t lend themselves to precision (generally required in FPS) which is forgivable. A bigger mistake is the endless “sameness” of the enemies and the levels. Sure things look great, but a box is a box no matter how you dress it up. The AI is non-existent so every room is more or less a death match between you and the alotted number of enemies. I have this lurching suspicion that there is a trend amongst game developers to make lesser versions of games in the name of portability (see Metal Gear Acid or Metroid Prime Hunters). The handhelds available these days are capable of so much more. So you can be desperate and call this “best on the PSP” or “great game” or you can call it what it is. The average score here is pretty accurate.… Expand

The visuals and the effort are there but the controls just dont feel right without 2 analog sticks i have found that the best setup ist using 2 pads rather than just 1 analog stick, but no mater how i set it up the controls just didnt feel right. the game was still a fun game to play just a little frustrating at times. i would have liked to have more open levels. overall i recommend this game to any fan of first person shooters.… Expand

Great handheld fun. Unfortunately, it still needs a story that immerses and motivates the player through generic level layouts. Levels are square rooms that lead to more square rooms. Graphics are top notch though. Controls aren't too tough to get used to. Left thumbstick is movement. Right four buttons are head/aiming controls. Similar to Halo. Every button is reconfigurable. Great game, but no immersion. Less immersive than the original Doom games. Only problem... the levels are boring, no matter how nice they look. Play it, you'll agree.… Expand

I have never played a more generic, dull and shallow game in my life. Run down a square passage, enter a square room, shoot some basic boring enemys with no AI to speak of, shoot the lead enemy,gab the key and thats the end of the level. Thats it, six levels per world, three worlds, 2 mins per level, hoe long it that gonna take you? not long. Still the multi player is great and realy easy to set up, plus you can use the weapons you got in the short time you played the single player mode.… Expand

This is an amazing game. It has incredible graphics for a handheld system. With 30 unique weapons like the honeypot, which can create a copy of you and destract the enemy for a few seconds and an amazing multiplayer game, this one is a must buy.

this game sounds pretty awsome except for the fact that the game does have not the best control and that there arntt a very creative or cool level designs but on the other hand the plot seems livible and the graphics are amazing as all hell if you are and fsp [first person shooter] fan this is a must have and with the mulitiplayer even if your an action fan i still think this is a MUST HAVE game.

Controls are the only thing buggin me... but ill get use to it .. but i wish there were some codes for it... that would be cool. basicly i think its the best game out for the psp...

Great "first" FPS for the psp. Very impresive graphics that make your brain rate this title against the full console games instead of the other handhelds. Needs work on story/game flow as things get to feel a bit tacked together. PSP designers have to stop thinking like handheld designers and start thinking like full console ones. They really don't need constrain themselves, the platform will do the job.… Expand

This is a very satisfying game. It suits the platform to a tee, what more could you ask from a handheld. No one knows exactly what the PSPP can do; this represents a first gen pinnacle. Congrats to Konami, they have given us a game that fits the genre and suits the hardware as well as he hardware can be suited at this time.

It might not be to fun when you first start playin, but after a while of just wasting time with it, it can be pretty good. Not a bad attempt at a FPS.

It's a good solid FPS with some mionor concerns. it's a rather generic game but don't get me wronge it's fun to play & a great on the go FPS, my biggest concern is that your health is saved when you beat a level making for some frustration do overs. But unless you are a compleat braindead Zombie there is plenty of entertainment to find with in this virtual world.

The game just blows. It is a watered down generic shooter game. Don't buy.

Once again a below average game thats strongest feature is the novelty of playing on the bus (for 10 minuits b4 the battery goes flat). I am beginning to wonder why I bothered getting a PSP.

A very solid FPS. Visually lush within the three basic environments it presents, CODED ARMS provides the basics of a decent shooter while setting up the 'twist' of having everything be within a virtual world. Items are files or apps and have filenames instead of titles. Enemies and destructible objects vanish in a cloud of binary code. Nice little touches like this set the game slightly above the redundant and abbreviated mediocrity of only three area types and somewhat short levels. In other words, it's pretty, creative, a technical tour de force and a quick play. Here's hoping the ADD-ON menu proves to be supported by Konami in the form of new levels and areas, like Wipeout Pure. Controls are as highly customizable as one could expect on the PSP - and will become the standard (in this sense) by which all subsequent FPS will be judged. Those criticizing the control scheme simply have not logged any time in the game, period. Within an hour or so, you'll be strafing circles and jumping railings with no problem. The slightly touchy and subsequently imprecise analog control is essentially solved with auto-'magnetic'-style targeting. Brilliant, and it works like a charm. An FPS story is irrelevant and Coded Arms is suitably scant in this regard. Last thing I want to do when waiting to run down halls and blast my friends is sit through a bloody cinematic about why we're there, blah blah blah. Bottom line, this is going to be great fun for FPS fans who just want to blast each other via local WiFi deathmatch. Also good for casual FPS players who don't obsess over the latest texture hack for HL2. Those elitist FPS fanatics, however, will find Coded Arms too short, too narrow of environmental scope and too limited in the number/variety of adversaries. The only people complaining about control will be the those who haven't really played and tweaked with the game.… Expand
