  1. If you like 3D games in the same vein as Mercury Meltdown then you'll find plenty of challenging gameplay, strategy, and even a touch of reflexive action lurking in Cube, a game that proves it truly is hip to be square.

An elegantly designed game, Cube also has a chill soundtrack, always a welcome facet in a puzzle game. [July 2007, p.85]

If noodle-scratching gameplay is your thing and you can deal with some repetition, there's lots of steak in your PSP's immediate future, but the lack of varied backgrounds and a weak camera don't provide anything in the sizzle category.

An interesting and diverting puzzler although a budget price would make it more attractive. [Apr 2007, p.84]

Some people like a challenge but more people don't want to be bloody annoyed by a sticky cube that explodes. [Issue#153, p.84]

Tak[es] a simple idea - roll a cube over and around 3D platforms towards an exit - and mak[es] it impossibly complicated. [Apr 2007, p.118]
  7. It's perfect for play in airport terminals and doctor's waiting rooms, but it's hardly of the addictive, "Puzzle Quest" and "Lumines" "I'll sleep when I'm dead!" variety.

All the clever levels in the world won't do much good, though, after the dozenth aggravating death by hidden trap makes you toss the game aside. [July 2007, p.60]
  9. But much of the problem is the game’s antiseptic feel. Everything is just so geometrical; squares rolling along squares in front of a grid background. Cube reminds me of a New Yorker cartoon in which a man in a square office full of square furnishings asks his secretary to bring in something round.
  10. I really wanted to like this game, and honestly, I could have forgiven the poor sound effects/music and sometimes painful colors of the game. But I cannot forgive the horribly frustrating camera control. I want a do over and I want that camera fixed.
  11. Beating levels felt more in the realm of schoolwork than satisfying puzzle action. Presentation is very bland and simple, but that somehow doesn’t prevent loading screens between every stage.

Is Cube fun? Not...really, but its clever torture.
  13. Just don't think that because you enjoy games like Lumines, Mercury Meltdown, and Capcom Puzzle World you might enjoy this one; I didn't.
  14. Cube's decent premise is diluted by its dull visuals and uninspired puzzles.
  15. Cube is a fine concept, and the stages themselves were well-designed, but from a graphical, audio, and programming standpoint, the game is a total mess.

The "move all over the grid" aspect is really fun, too, even if you do end up fighting the camera a lot of the time.
  17. 50
There's simply very little allure to Cube, outside of the slim satisfaction you'll glean from solving the more challenging levels.
