  1. Though nothing truly remarkable, it does provide a great follow up to an already good game. Fans of the PSP and of DBZ should already be on their way to the game store now to pick up this latest installment that will keep you busy for hours.
  2. Fans of the franchise will not care and eat this game up, but overall this game doesn’t offer much that you haven’t seen already.

Rabid fans will struggle to ignore its charms, but if you're not DBZ inclined Vegeta 'bout it. [July 2007, p.77]
  4. Fans of the series will find plenty to do in Shin Budokai 2, although ultimately there’s not been enough progress since the last instalment to make the game anywhere near recommended.

It certainly won't draw any new fans that the last game couldn't have, but it should appease fans for a fair bit of time, especially with its multi-tiered storyline.
  6. If you don’t have either DBZ PSP game, buy this. If you have the first one already, you may want to rent this, plow through the story mode, and give it back.

Once you get used to the "flying around on a map" bits in Another Road mode, you notice that the combat is the same as it's always been. This probably won't bother most fans, but they should at least know what they're getting into.

An enjoyable beat-'em-up despite the ADHD storyline. The smooth, ninja-tastic fighting is fun and there's plenty of stuff to do. [June 2007, p.98]

While not very different or revolutionary, Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2 provides the fans with what they want. Plenty of DBZ and some solid but enjoyable fighting action.
  10. Another Road is essentially just a remixed version of the original Shin Budokai, offering very little in the way of new content.
  11. Dragon Ball fans who just want to battle it out can stick to the arcade gameplay, but the main story mode that differentiates it brings far more frustration than enjoyment.

Voice acting keeps the story interesting, but you can skip it all in Arcade mode. [Aug 2007, p.78]

Only fans desperate for another DBZ on the go should pick this one up. [June 2007, p.86]
  14. A lackluster sequel. It adds only a handful of new characters, makes no significant changes to the basic gameplay, and barely even updates the graphics.
  15. 60
Wireless warriors should snap this one up – despite some flaws, there are lots of new options for showing off your skills against other human opponents. Everyone else may as well pick up one of the earlier (and likely much cheaper) games instead.

Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2 is a game that's geared towards fans of the TV series, rather than a wider audience.
  17. 55
It's an average at best fighting game hiding behind a love or hate it licence marketed firmly at children.
  18. If you feel like punching a few random people into buildings, then Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai - Another Road may be worth your time. But if you played the last one, there’s really no reason to consider getting this one. If you’ve played one Dragon Ball, you’ve played them all.
  19. Hardcore Gamer

This game is strictly for DBZ fans who, in addition, are crazy about the early Budokai games. [June 2007, p.63]
  20. Play UK

This is average stuff, and occasionally it's worse than that. [Issue#154, p.76]

It adds many new characters, moves, and gameplay elements. Also a brand new "alternate" storyline brings a fresh experience to a Budokai game that we haven't seen since Budokai 1 for the PS2 (which gave us the original DBZ storyline). Full Review »
