On a visual level, the game looks simply awesome. It's not quite as detailed as "Vice City" or "San Andreas," but it absolutely destroys the original "GTA 3."
  2. One of the best handheld games I have ever played, hands down... This is the type of game that changes the definition of a handheld.
  3. Rockstar has cut no corners in crafting the game for the PSP and it shows. This is the real deal... A few control issues hold it back from getting a perfect score, but we'll save that for "Vice City Stories" (we hope).

Whilst the game isn't as impressive as San Andreas, it's still incredible and some aspects that were missing from "GTA III" have been included in LCS like motorbikes and more aggresive police.
  5. Everything you loved about the original games is in here, in glorious, put-in-your-pocket color. This is a must-have title for any portable punk.
  6. While the game is definitely a fine technical achievement and one of the best PSP games to date, the dull storyline and basic mission design do bring the whole thing down a bit.
  7. An amazing technological showcase for the PSP, but makes the biggest series in gaming feel small. [Jan 2006, p.86]

Its an awesome game with great graphics. I'm suprised that they could fit such a good game on that small disc.

Absolutely incredible! What they've managed to squeeze onto this tiny disc is awesome. When we played the GTA3 on the ps2 for the first Absolutely incredible! What they've managed to squeeze onto this tiny disc is awesome. When we played the GTA3 on the ps2 for the first time, who would of thought we'd get something like it on a handheld within a few years?!? The controls system is flawed, there are collision & slow-down issues.... but this should not distract from what is a remarkable achievement. Expand

There are two kinds of handheld games: those that go in different directions from the console games to support "pick up and play" style, and There are two kinds of handheld games: those that go in different directions from the console games to support "pick up and play" style, and those that just copy the console games. The latter are flawed, because of the limitations of handhelds. Liberty City Stories falls into this category. Sure, the city is big and there are a lot of missions, but the limitations of the hardware make the graphics choppy and the screens gets blurry. Also, they made the missions shorter because the battery dies fast. If this game proves one thing, it's that you need to find a different way to play a game on a handheld, like Metal Gear Acid did.
