What we get is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously and demands patience be destroyed in button mashing fury. Sometimes, a nice button mashing experience is exactly what you need after a tough day, and Jikandia delivers this in spades.

Overall, Jikandia: The Timeless Land is a rather disappointing game that pales in comparison to similar titles like Half Minute Hero.
  3. The basic concept is clever enough, though, so the game could have emerged as a real cult classic had it possessed stronger fundamentals. [April 2011, p.78]

Jikandia is a visually distinct, charming game that has the potential to be fun in small doses – but since the game design actively discourages you from playing like that, it simply turns into a somewhat-better-than-okay experimental platformer.

Jikandia puts us in control of how long it takes to complete a level, but it doesn't give us a reason to stay any longer than we have to. This could have been a treat for retro gamers, but the dull action and stingy rewards make it more of a cheap trick.
