No doubt we'll all be sick of it by the time Powered Up 6 rolls around, but you can hardly hold Capcom's inevitable future sins against what amounts to one of the most addictive PSP games to date.
  2. The author is rather fond of really hard games with simple premises, and Mega Man is exactly that-- the game mechanics themselves are quite archaic, but work exceptionally well due to good original design.

It's a truckload of fun, controls tightly, never lets the player down with framerate issues, offers an obscene amount of things to see and do, all the while oozing charm, personality and unbridled quality from every one of its robotic nooks and crannies (now there's a nice image to take with you).
  4. The blast-'em-up action is now coated in a sugary exterior with over-the-top cutesy trimmings and oddball voices for the game's characters. It's so disgustingly sweet, you almost want to reach out and pinch Mega Man's cheeks.

Though the core game is obscenely short by modern standards, Capcom packed this title with a lot of extra content. And unlike so many retro-revamps, everything here is well worth your time.

Mega Man Powered Up shows its Mega Man heritage by being cheap at times and somewhat short in length, but it delivers in just about every way you could hope for, given that it's basically a remake of a game that's almost 20 years old. [Apr 2006, p.133]
  7. It's a likable retelling of a classic series with enough content to keep most gamers entertained for weeks, and the ability to play as all these old-school bosses is sure to strike your geek nerve.

Construction mode and WiFi give Mega Man Powered Up almost limitless replayability.
  9. The game dreams are made of. It’s beautiful, has hundreds and hundreds of professionally made challenging levels, a dozen playable characters, an in-depth level creator, and internet capabilities for endless replay through downloading new levels. [JPN Import]

While it's still Mega Man at heart, it's managed to grow up while also staying young. It's a gaming anomaly, but one that's worth a serious look.
  11. The ability to control bosses later on is a bit floundering, but, otherwise, what we have here is a kick-ass ride that delivers on presentation, gameplay, and challenge.
  12. Regardless of what you might think of Powered Up's ubercute presentation, there's no denying the addictive challenge the game provides.

By far my favorite PSP game yet. Not only is it an outstanding remake of an already fantastic game, but there's an entirely new version of the game with tons of replay value thanks to all of the unlockable characters.
  14. Radically revamped graphics, a new adventure, an old adventure, unlimited challenge, and the amazing Construction mode add up to one very compelling package.
  15. Nearly every aspect of this game is perfect, and despite its historic roots, becomes a 'must own,' not only for Mega Man fans, but for every PSP owner out there.
  16. Powered Up is definitely the most comprehensive Mega Man game out there.

About the only complaint here is the occasional slowdown when things get hectic, but other than that, it’s a pretty slick package with minimal load times.

Capcom have done a sterling job of updating the game for the PSP and this is a very fine example of what can be achieved on the platform.

A fun action experience with plenty of the old-school Mega Man platforming that everyone has come to love. [May 2006, p.92]

Mega Man Powered Up is easily one of the best titles on the PSP at this point in time - a must-buy for all fans of the Blue Bomber.

I've played a lot of remakes, and rarely do they strike a balance between the old and new as well as Mega Man: Powered Up. [May 2006, p.57]

The great new features more than compensate, however, and make Powered Up the latest example of a remake done oh-so-right. [May 2006, p.71]

It may only be a remake, but the online level swapping, visual overhaul and tweaked gameplay make it feel sufficiently different. [May 2006, p.77]
  24. Mega Man Powered Up is the way a classic game should be remade. Capcom updated the graphics and audio to today's standards, and also tacked on a number of new features that greatly lengthen the game's staying power, but they pretty much left the original gameplay alone.
  25. If you can cope with the obvious limitations that a remake has in following its source material (although the sticky movement – Mega Man not moving for a millisecond when you command him to from a stationary pose – could have been done without), Powered Up is the ultimate bang for your buck.
  26. 90
Definitely give Powered Up a chance, even if you have never been a fan of the series I guarantee you will find plenty to love in this game.
