It is everything you can expect: very fun, well-presented and with a simple, yet powerful editor, although not as much as the domestic version.
-
90ModNation Racers is on the PlayStation 3 a great game, but on the PlayStation Portable it's possibly even better. The game has great customize options, a lot of gameplay, great graphics and many more positive elements. Only one annoying thing is the loading times, those are also on this handheld way too long.
-
Despite some weaknesses in the driving sections - which you would think would be a deal-breaker for a racing game - the overall package is still very much worth it.
-
It's less flashy but more suited to PSP. [Aug 2010, p.97]
-
79In conclusion, ModNation for the PSP works as a good PSP game, however it's hard not to compare it to the PS3 version which it is based on.
-
ModNation Racers for the PSP is a solid racing that offers up more in the way of customizable features and online connectivity then most Playstation Portable titles.
-
78While it doesn't quite encompass the charm and addictive nature of Mario Kart DS, it's still a strong game in its own right, and can offer hours of entertainment to kart racing fans.
-
78It's fun and surprising. ModNation Racers proves to be a strong game on PSP catalogue.
-
75Both versions of ModNation Racers have been developed in parallel to provide two different proposals of the same concept. What we've got here is a crazy kart racing game, with a huge amount of creation tools and a good online community. Only a few shortcomings in the gameplay penalizes the final result. Even so, this is one of the best games of the genre, which aims to be a benchmark in the PlayStation Portable catalog.
-
74In the end, ModNation Racers is a game that's rough around the edges. It's got some great ideas, but the gameplay issues and flat presentation hold it back.
-
As an alternative to the PS3 version, it lacks soul. [Aug 2010, p.92]
-
ModNation Racer's astonishing editing tool and bucketfuls of personality are let down by lacklustre handling and sensation of speed.
-
There are at least enough creative, sharing and multiplayer options to stop things going stale. [July 2010, p.118]
-
Little brother of PS3 version comes with raw driving and heightened difficulty. Lots of fun waits in the game editor and multiplayer duels. [Issue#192]
-
70ModNation racers on PS3 is worth all of the praise it is getting right now, but sadly some subtle alterations for the handheld version make those who only own a PSP at a major loss. If you're interested in a Play Create Share experience with Kart Racing, go for the full fat console version instead of this.
-
70We'll stick with the PS3 version for the time being. [Issue#193, p.98]
-
67One thing that ModNation PSP does have going for it over its big brother is that its loading times are generally far shorter. But beyond that, it's inferior in every way.
-
I wanted to like ModNation Racers, but it's simply missing... something. Yes, the controls hurt things, but I can't escape the feeling that the PSP port simply doesn't have the soul of its PS3 counterpart.
-
60ModNation Racers on the PSP doesn't compare to the PS3 version, but it's a capable kart racer with hours' worth of content to wade through and online options.
-
60The play mechanics sadly hold back what would be an amazing kart racer. The level of customization is vast and addictive, and the online community ensure countless hours of playtime and new content.
-
For all its creation-packed bells, whistles, and hood ornaments, ModNation Racers on PSP is like the Batmobile fitted with a Prius engine: Lots of show, lacking go. [Aug 2010, p.83]
