  1. Sony has a great potential franchise here if they continue to polish and refine the gameplay and visuals with each installment, and I’d recommend they take this style of top-down action to the home consoles as well, adding even more features.
  2. The combat is good but the computer AI is at times perfect in combat which is an issue. The linear way in which the game plays out hurts the game when compared to other RPG games out for the PSP right now.

While the gameplay is fairly entertaining, and the environments and effects are quite nice, the game starts to chug when too much is going on, and the so-so sound and menial menus will have you feeling that the game is lacking a certain amount of polish.
  4. It's nice to see that this level of complexity is seeping downward through the genres and markets because it only means that games will be that much deeper and complex as these savvy generations grow older and demand more from their games.
  5. Despite the low-level evolution of its RPG elements, Petpet Adventures still plays well, and its visuals and sound complement an easily accessible gameplay mechanic.
  6. Neopets could have been a fun game that introduces younger players to the action RPG genre. Instead, the game becomes boring because of balancing issues.
  7. Don't have any idea what the difference between a PetPetPet, a Neopet or a PetPet is and could care less? 'Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing' is probably not for you then. For fans of the odd little beasts and their quirky little ways, the PSP release is a faithful expansion of the Neopet universe.
  8. Those looking for a deep action RPG will have to look elsewhere though as Petpet Adventures falls a little short in the storyline and balance to really make this a must have title.
  9. Besides these core target audience, normal gamers might find the whole premise and gameplay a little too drab and will need something more mature.

The many different details that affect the Petpets are very interesting and in a bigger adventure they could have had a bigger impact. Many of the pieces are in place, they just need a home.
  11. Role-playing enthusiasts will probably deem it too underdeveloped for their tastes, but Neopets fanatics and younger players should come away satisfied.
  12. Its cute and fluffy appearance is deceiving, as The Wand of Wishing turns out to be less accessible than the action RPGs it is derived from.
  13. Might be a step up from The Darkest Faerie that was released for the PlayStation 2 last year, but it still carries many of the same flaws.
  14. Sadly, this Wand of Wishing grants players only an average game.

While it’s hard to recommend this strange adventure to hardcore gamers, Neopets Petpet Adventure manages to take familiar action and role-playing elements, wrap it around a bizarrely cute exterior, and end up with a very playable quest.
  16. Neopets tries to be the cute alternative to your basic dungeon hack, but thanks to some questionable development choices, a sluggish combat system and some truly boring level designs, it's a hard game to recommend to anybody.
  17. Too many changes seek to make the game frustrating rather than something new. The ideas are sound, but the execution just isn't there.
  18. The popular cyberpets community gets into the gaming scene with this typical action RPG. Decent offering, but plain to see it's meant for the younger gamers.

Could've been a good RPG intro for kids, but bad save and leveling systems cripple it. [Aug 2006, p.81]
  20. It provides an adult style of gameplay with but set in a non-adult world that most parents could find little to complain about. However, for the older gamers out there, Neopets won’t serve as more than a passing distraction at best.

It really showed how well the graphics really are. For young people, and children, this is by far the game to go with. It is very user friendly, as neopets always thanks to be. I really have to say this game is truly incredible. Full Review »
