The sheer quantity of content here astounds: Underground's timer-less Story mode, the original-style Classic mode, robust editing options (including the ability to map a mug shot from the memory stick to your created character's head), and requisite Wi-Fi play.
  2. In the past, shrinking a game down to portable form meant cutting out a number of features, but that doesn't happen here.
  3. A total smash from start to finish, and a damn great PSP game that deserves to be even bigger than its console big brother.
  4. Great control; amazing visuals; addictive gameplay; lots of multiplayer modes.
  5. When you combine the classic mode with the story mode and all the customization you can have with characters, there is just a bundle of things to do in this game.

Gnarly. This is a must-own for all PSP skateboarding fans.

It's fairly shocking that a game this fast works this well on a handheld system. [June 2005, p.108]
  8. It's disappointing that the developers have resorted to stuffing the series with such stupidity in order to fulfill popular culture's obsession with morons, but if you're willing to ignore this shortcoming, THUG 2 can be a lot of fun.
  9. In the unlikely event that you're a newcomer, this is as good an example of the series (or indeed the genre) as any other, and not only well stocked but also the only thing like it on the PSP at the moment.

Simply put, there are few launch releases that pack in so much content.
  11. An amazing port of the PS2, perhaps the best port of any major title to a handheld yet. Considering the nature of the control scheme I was impressed that the designers managed to keep this game functional and fun to play.

I'm blown away by how well this title has been ported to PSP. [May 2005, p.136]
  13. This one just feels right in all the places that the console version felt old.
  14. How in the world they managed to squeeze all the info from the console versions into this one without the PSP suffering a heart attack is beyond me, though it proves that the handheld can handle some depth.

Visually, Tony and friends have never looked better. The frame rate runs super fast, even when you're busting out multiple combos.
  16. The transition to the portable system is nearly flawless, and the addition of 4 new maps adds enough variety to appease owners of the console version.
  17. A bit of a dodgy conversion, but otherwise a very good game. This amount of stuff on one UMD is amazing, and the range of things you can do is remarkable. Not perfect, but still great. [PSM2]
  18. Replay value is enormous, the game is a blast to play even though the main story mode is over relatively quick.
  19. This "remixed" version of the original delivers almost everything that was great about the console versions, and with the inclusion of four new levels, the single-player experience has gotten even better.

While the additions might not be enough for longtime Tony Hawk fans and gamers that played the hell out of "THUG2," there's no denying that this is the best action-sports game ever seen on a handheld system.
  21. Since so much of THUG 2 is dependant on a solid control system, there was some risk that this whole effort could completely backfire. The good news is that didn’t happen.
  22. The options package is rich and once into a level/scenario, the game moves well. You can waste time in doing freak outs, but there is a purpose to it and players will find the controls work well on the platform.
  23. Sure it still has the same issues of the console counterpart, but there's something different and refreshing about having a near perfect conversion on the go.
  24. The graphics, sounds, and controls are almost spot-on perfect replicas of their console counterpart. This is the best portable version of any Tony Hawk game to date.
  25. 87
A nearly perfect extended port of the console version. Everything, literally everything, that was in the console versions can be found here.
  26. While you’d need to think long and hard about whether you need THUG2R if you already own THUG2, fans of the series or newcomers who enjoy arcade sports games should be arranging an importation post haste. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say that this is probably the best way to play THUG2.

The entire console game's 50 plus track list has been carried over to the PSP version and it's quite a varied mix of styles.
  28. The graphics in THUG 2 Remix are incredible for a handheld system. It looks almost identical to the PS2 version with only a few drawbacks that are barely noticeable. With the great graphics, the game also sports a very solid framerate and smooth gameplay.
  29. Remix is a damn fine port of a very solid game—it's better than anyone had any right to expect on a handheld and a pretty impressive showcase of what the PSP is capable of.
  30. An excellent soundtrack and surprising amount of customizability just add to the tasty Remix.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix could be the best Tony Hawk game ever, but we can't help but feel that the series has reached its peak now.

But if the motion doesn't bother you, you'll absolutely want this. [June 2005, p.83]
  33. THUG2 Remix's biggest fault is its horrendously poor audio quality. If it wasn't for the voice acting and the rather kick ass soundtrack, the sound would've gotten a flat out zero.
  34. If you’ve never played a Tony Hawk game before, this is the most complete out of all of them and it’s worth a purchase.
  35. This is a game that you must own - even if you think that you don't enjoy the franchise thus far, the fact is that like Ridge Racers, the THUG2 experience is very complimentary with the whole ethos of PSP.
  36. It's the PS2 version of THUG2 gone handheld, and it lost nothing in the translation. The new added levels are a perfect fit and there is no better example of how to pack a console game's worth of content on a UMD. Period.

Though I’d like to make one small request – can we please can the “extreme” direction that the series is taking and just make a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 without the story elements? My brain cells would thank you.
  38. What is surprising is that this game is essentially a perfect hand-held redux of the console version of Tony Hawk's Underground 2, as opposed to being some stripped-down, 2-D reinterpretation.
  39. I'm happy to say that THUG 2 Remix looks very similar to its console cousins, which is to say it looks great. Level designs are unique and colorful, not to mention large.
  40. 90
Remix gives PSP owners a massive, compelling experience, while at the same time making the hardware look golden. After all, it's not only a port of a best-selling console game -- it's better!
