An unconventional combination of two worlds and genres, which is funny, reasonably difficult and especially offers a great playability. For the Nintendo Switch owners, it is a must-have, everyone will enjoy this game. [Issue#278]

And this is the thing, they may have needed a bit of Mario magic to rub off on them but this is the perfect stage for the previously maligned Rabbids. From Rabbid Peach’s casual leaning against cover and obsession with taking selfies as bosses fall, to a slobbering rampaging Donkey Kong boss, to Rabbid Yoshi’s curiously adorable dinosaur costume they manage to steal the show from their inspirations. Another pleasant surprise in a game full of unlikely triumphs.
  3. Aug 28, 2017
It's a fan service fractal that works both as a gonzo strategy masterpiece and series love letter. It's a studio-publisher (Ubisoft) that's been around nearly as long as Nintendo's been making video games, reflecting all the whimsy and allure of a franchise that's sold half a billion copies worldwide. I blaspheme, but if you've ever wondered what an archetypal Nintendo game made not-by-Nintendo would look like, here you go.
  4. Sep 6, 2017
My only gripe is that the game could have done with a world-map (there’s kind of a ‘map’ to help you track your battles and how you went in them, but it looks more like a McDonald’s kids place-mat and isn’t at all helpful). Otherwise this is near-perfect gaming experience. Wonderfully paced, beautifully presented, hilariously nostalgic and reverent, portable, ever-challenging and charming to a fault. If The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild wasn’t enough to push your switch to Nintendo Switch, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle definitely should force your wallet.
  5. Sep 1, 2017
When Mario + Rabbids was announced, I was excited, if a little nervous. Nintendo farming out Mario to Ubisoft, a developer that hasn’t always hit the mark, was slightly concerning. But after playing this game I can honestly say that aside from the odd camera bug or two, I would have never of guessed that this game was not made by Nintendo themselves. It looks, sounds and feels like a Mario game. Clearly the developers have a great love of Mario and an even greater understanding as to what makes a Mario game special. All of the nods to the Mario universe, how many staples of said universe feature in how the gameplay works with this unique title and the attention to every little detail makes this not only a fresh take on a classic character, but possibly my favorite Mario game ever.
  6. Aug 30, 2017
A must-own for any Switch owner and is worth buying the console for on its own. It combines two franchises together wonderfully and gives Mario fans seeking another console-centric RPG-style game more thrills. Everything about the concept gels together surprisingly well, with the only weakness in the whole package being the story.
  7. Aug 29, 2017
The level of quality and depth here is absolutely extraordinary.
  8. Aug 29, 2017
Considering how disparate all the elements found in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle appear on the surface, everything comes together astonishingly well when experienced as a whole.
  9. Oct 2, 2017
Like a food pairing that shouldn't work but does, Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle overcame our scepticism and rewarded us with a supremely competent turn-based strategy game.
  10. Sep 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is such an enjoyable and well made game that would make you wonder if other studios can create games for Nintendo as good as herself? Who knows, maybe now is the time for Rare to rise again from the oblivion.
  11. Sep 25, 2017
In the end, I feel like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battles is a great game just falling short of a few paces from becoming a masterpiece, which I mean in a positive sense because there are rooms for improvement in this already exceptional tactical/strategy game. Ubisoft went above and beyond to prove that they can make a Mario game that can make Nintendo and its fans proud while opening the door for many possibilities in the future.
  12. Sep 18, 2017
An excellent demonstration of making and reviving the genre of tactical turn-based strategies with lots of little innovations and ideas. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is funny, nice and playful game that should not be missed by any Switch owner.

    Sep 14, 2017
If at times its volume of perfunctory unlockables remind you that this is a Ubisoft game, elsewhere Kingdom Battle boasts a generosity of ideas that feels startlingly Nintendo...It's perhaps not quite good enough to bring you to tears, but if Odyssey is to be Mario's best game this year, it has a pretty high bar to clear. Not THERE's something we never imagined writing. [Issue#311, p.100]
  14. Sep 5, 2017
Nintendo’s Switch has had a steady flow of amazing titles since its March 2017 release, and having Ubisoft buddy up to create a game like this is another feather in the console’s cap. It has all the graphical charm of a Mario platformer, an amazing soundtrack by an industry legend, the backing of two big studios, and the rarest thing of all: hilarious Rabbids. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is simply no joke.
  15. Sep 4, 2017
Wow, this was unexpected to say the least. Who would've thought one of the deepest, most tactical games of this year would come out of a collaboration between Mario and Rabbids? But it is – with an amazing battle system, a rewarding challenge beautiful world and great musical score, the game cements itself as a must-buy for Switch owners who like a good tactics game.
  16. Sep 4, 2017
As cute as it all is, it’s surprisingly challenging, and halfway through the third world there’s a bit a spike in difficulty that had me questioning my value as a human being.
  17. Aug 31, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a gorgeous adventure and an engrossing tactical romp that offers a solid challenge and some unique combat quirks that will please tactical fans. Add in the ridiculous antics from the Rabbids and some wonderful creativity in the environments in the music and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a strategy game players dare not miss.
  18. Aug 30, 2017
Mario + Rabbids is tremendously fun, and a triumph for Ubisoft. Its easy accessibility and familiar characters make it perfect for younger players ready to move onto more challenging gaming experiences, but its consistent difficulty curve means it keeps the attention of more seasoned players. With tonnes of content to warrant returning long after the story is done, chalk this up as another great entry to the Switch's burgeoning software library.
  19. 90
Mario + Rabbids could have been so much worse than this, but somehow Ubisoft’s really done something special with it. And, as one of the rare cases where Nintendo has loaned its most precious property out to a third party, Ubisoft has done something that, I hope, Nintendo itself will be proud of.
  20. Aug 30, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle features excellent turn-based strategy gameplay and buttery smooth combat and animations. A fluid and fun must-have for Switch owners and strategy fans alike.
  21. 90
Beautiful, weird and unexpectedly complex, there is at times a deep reverence for gaming's most famous brand here, and at other times an overwhelming urge to pull it apart and make fun of it. At the same time though, Kingdom Battle sets itself apart by avoiding the running and jumping that made its main character famous, focusing instead on an impressive strategy shooter design that would have been great on its own but is made even better with the addition of Nintendo's familiar properties.
  22. Aug 29, 2017
Outside of a few other minor blemishes like jarring animations during cutscenes, Mario + Rabbids is a great game that has a lot of unique elements you simply can’t find in other strategy RPGs. Ubisoft puts all concerns to rest with an amazing effort that hopefully paves the way for more collaborations with Nintendo.
  23. Aug 29, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the game that every third-party should aspire to create for the Nintendo Switch: its fun, inspiring, and just seems to push the hardware to its limits. Ubisoft did a great job capturing Mario's world and gives us a very entertaining experience.
  24. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a gorgeous, amusing, and challenging turn-based strategy that's easily the best exclusive on Nintendo Switch so far. I'm just as surprised as you are.
  25. Aug 28, 2017
There’s no denying Kingdom Battle is an amazing experience, but it’s also a tough one to describe to friends and family. Heavy on Mario characters and locales, it’s not your usual Mario game. It features Ubisoft’s highly annoying Rabbids, but in a format that finally works, subdued and entertaining. It uses humour that kids will appreciate, but parents and adult gamers will get more from. Best yet, it doesn’t hold your hand, demanding a carefully-planned strategy to accomplish your goals. I can’t recommend it enough, but to the right audience – players over the age of 15 will find the title an utter delight.
  26. 90
It’s one of those rare instances where the positive pre-release reception was totally justified and made the ultimate pay-off even better. The developers at Ubisoft Milan and Paris took their time to figure what works about strategy games and elevated it to a form that can be enjoyed by many. Add to that the pure cleverness of the adventure, and what results in an absolute must play for Nintendo Switch owners. This is the best game the Rabbids have starred in and they only needed Mario to achieve it.
  27. Aug 28, 2017
More than an attempt to cash in on the Super Mario Bros. and Raving Rabbids franchises, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the most creative turn-based tactical games in years.
  28. Aug 28, 2017
A crazy and extremely fun mash-up, embellished by an excellent combat system and a compelling soundtrack by the eternal Grant Kirkhope.
  29. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a true gem in our gaming world, blending two very different universes and creating a deep turn-based tactical game that is both funny and weird. We can only hope that this is the beginning of a new franchise.
  30. Aug 28, 2017
Yet another fantastic game you should have in your library if you own a Nintendo Switch. It’s clear that Ubisoft respects the sanctity of these iconic Nintendo characters, and the game certainly does them justice. Kingdom Battle might not be the most challenging tactical RPG around, but it does offer a satisfying combat flow, and provides ample opportunities for players to come up with interesting strategies and team compositions to complete a map with. The Rabbids serve as the special X-factor ingredient that really makes this game pop with life.
  31. Aug 28, 2017
This is a legitimately great strategy experience, tailored toward the sensibilities of Nintendo and the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch. It's a charming adventure for Mario, and the Rabbids don't get in the way, even if they don't necessarily add much either. In the same way that the original Super Mario RPG showed Square Enix using Nintendo's property to create some magic, Mario + Rabbids delivers something close from Ubisoft.
  32. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a must have for Switch-owning fans of turn-based tactical games. More importantly, such is the style and depth on offer that it's also ideal for those that haven't played much of the genre, for whom 'X-COM' sounds like a silly acronym from a war movie. It introduces the concept in the best possible way, and then utilises its own ideas for what becomes a smart and - at times - deliciously challenging experience.
  33. 90
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is an absorbing and addictive experience that combines unpredictable, tactically deep, turn-based strategy gameplay and dexterously imbues it with the humour and the heart of a traditional Mario adventure.
  34. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a triumph, for Mario and Nintendo as well as for Ubisoft. The game bursts with creativity and charm. It’s beautiful, funny, challenging and original. But most of all, it’s a bold risk, and an immensely successful one at that.
  35. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle exudes off-beat optimism that never dissolves. It's a consistent delight, no matter how challenging the road becomes.
  36. Aug 28, 2017
While not a traditional Mario or Rabbids game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle contains enough elements from both franchises to appeal to fans of either series. The lighthearted humor and silly visuals combined with a surprisingly deep battle system make this unexpected crossover a delight to play.

    Oct 6, 2017
A smart, inventive, and genuinely funny strategy game - and possibly 2017's most pleasant surprise. [Nov 2017, p.62]
  38. Oct 19, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle might be an unpleasant surprise for every (oblivious) Mario-fan whose hoping to go jump on platforms again, but for gamers who like to be strategically challenged, this is highly recommended. Mario + Rabbids might not be a perfectly polished product like some ' real' Mario games, but Ubisoft took a great risk, bringing us an ideal game for the Switch.
  39. Sep 20, 2017
It’s acceptable to have doubts about this game upon your first impressions, but give it a try and you’ll see that Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a great game. While later levels can get a little bit exhausting you’ll find your dedication rewarded with a little hard work and effort. Just pretend you didn’t see the occasional poop joke and you’ll be fine.
  40. Aug 30, 2017
Kudos to Ubisoft: The bizarre experiment of mixing the anarchic Rabbids with one of the most liked icons in the Nintendo universe is a big success. The turn-based battles might not challenge the XCOM-aficionado, but they are great fun from top to bottom.
  41. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Battle Kingdom turned into a game that combines both original IPs in a very original way, while also adding the amazing strategic depth of a game like X-COM.
  42. Aug 28, 2017
This is, quite clearly, a labour of love. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a brilliant take on the turn based strategy genre, that wonderfully fuses the Nintendo Aesthetic to a fast-paced tactical system and well crafted puzzles.
  43. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a unique adventure, it's the clash of two worlds that seemingly have nothing in common, but work really great together. The use of Ubisoft's Snowdrop Engine really fits a colorful adventure that looks great on the screen, and that is capable of getting a laugh out of you when you least expect it.
  44. Aug 28, 2017
This is a fast-paced tactics adventure with a deep combat system and a charming cast of characters. Beyond the regular campaign there’s challenges to master, perfect scores to wrap up and collectibles to hunt down. Every level represents a puzzle with multiple solutions. The presentation is an absolute delight, and the play style is perfectly suited to the Switch. If you’ve any interest in turn-based tactics, Nintendo or Ubisoft games, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a slam dunk.
  45. Aug 28, 2017
Sometimes crossovers surprise us by bringing together in the same title two apparently disconnected licenses like these. In addition, the game allows us to see an unprecedented genre in the adventures of the italian plumber as is the turn-based strategy, and the result could not be better for this debut.
  46. Aug 28, 2017
A quirky crossover that seamlessly blends two universes apparently far away from one another, a compelling strategic game that despite its simplicity has a lot of depth to it (and one that could be a perfect introduction to the genre) and above all a production that truly captures that special, peculiar Nintendo feel: well played Crying Ubisoft Man, well played.
  47. Aug 29, 2017
Fantastic Mario Rabbids crossover with beautiful worlds, a deep character system and strategic battles. A switch must-buy.
  48. Aug 28, 2017
Underneath the odd blend of Mario with the Rabbids lies a very good SRPG. Its combat mechanics are frantic, fun and complex enough to make the whole campaign a joy to play. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a nice surprise, there is no doubt about it.
  49. Aug 28, 2017
Simply put: one of the best games available today on Nintendo Switch.
  50. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids is a wonderful surprise. It's fun, long, beautiful and it has a lot of content. We could only ask for better and less repetitive puzzles, but if you like what you've seen so far, don't hesitate and get it.
  51. CD-Action
    Nov 16, 2017
Ubisoft acquired Nintendo’s license, added some Rabbids in the mix and entrusted the game to its Italian studio that never developed any large game on its own. What’s more, neither the studio nor both IPs had anything to do with tactical games. I still don’t understand how Kingdom Battle turned out so good. [11/2017, p.46]

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a funny game that keeps you wondering what will happen next. [Issue #30 – November/December 2017, p. 75]
  53. Game World Navigator Magazine
    Oct 16, 2017
We can’t say that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has no other issues besides graphics: some people won’t like weird scenery of the Mushroom Kingdom, others will be annoyed by somewhat blunt humor. But there’s no doubt about the bottom line: Switch owners got a good brand-new tactic game. [Issue#223, p.68]
  54. Oct 1, 2017
If you own a Nintendo Switch, you want this game, period. I didn’t know I wanted this mashup, but now that we have it, I can’t wait for the DLC, and I definitely want sequels.
  55. Sep 3, 2017
Ubisoft has made a remarkable title that deserves the attention of each of every Nintendo Switch owner thus far. This game is not only a great surprise, but also one of the best games of the console. Deep in its game mechanics and affordable to everybody.
  56. Sep 3, 2017
I was really impressed by my time with Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. It’s a polished X-Com style game that removes some of the obtuse layers to ensure the early gameplay curve is accessible, uses humor very well, and kept me coming back for more.
  57. Aug 29, 2017
Whether you're fan of the Rabbids, Mario or the XCOM franchise, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the very good games available on the Nintendo Switch with its funny universe and solid gameplay.
  58. Aug 29, 2017
The best part of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is its gameplay design. Exploring various worlds is pleasant and thanks to smart location of gold coins you can't get lost. The combat is simple but there are new mechanisms and character introduced every now and then so it doesn't become boring. My encounter with Mario and the Rabbids lasted for more than a dozen of hours and it was really fun.
  59. An unexpected delight that blends the look and feel of a Mario adventure with the goofy potty humour of Ubisoft’s Rabbids franchise and then drapes this colourful mosaic over the framework of a deep, challenging, and lengthy turn-based strategy game.
  60. Aug 28, 2017
Mario and the Rabbids come together and that means chaos, but in a good way. Ubisoft absolutely took this one home. The game is challenging, looks great and combines two franchises into a new fantastic one for the Switch.
  61. Aug 28, 2017
As far as we are concerned, this is an excellent starting point for strategy gamers. Mario + Rabbids feels like a Nintendo game, and a unique one at that. The levels are amazing puzzles and you do not need to know any complex mechanics to have fun with it.
  62. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is another excellent addition to the Nintendo Switch's bustling first-year library of enjoyable titles. It does a great job of being accessible enough to lure strategy newcomers while also providing a good amount of challenge to vets. It comes with plenty of content to keep players going in solo and multiplayer modes, and every battle is entertaining. With a presentation that matches some of the better Super Mario titles out there, Mario + Rabbids is a perfect fit for your library.
  63. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids is more than a simple equation, it's more than the sum of the parts. The collaboration between Ubisoft and Nintendo gives us a deep and challenging strategic-tactic videogame.
  64. Aug 28, 2017
I was as skeptical as anyone when I heard the words “Mario” and “XCOM” uttered in the same sentence, but Kingdom Battle didn’t just prove me wrong – it ended up being my favorite Mario game in recent years. Nintendo and Ubisoft took a big risk working together outside their comfort zones, and that risk paid off.
  65. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle may not be the deepest tactical RPG, but it delivers a solid all-around experience that takes advantage of the strengths of both Mario and the Rabbids—making for one of the most surprisingly enjoyable game experiences you’re likely to have this year.
  66. Aug 28, 2017
Ubisoft managed to turn a complex genre into a Mario-friendly experience that never insults the intelligence of its players.
  67. Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle takes on the most fun aspects of both worlds and brings them together in a solid strategy game.
  68. Sep 18, 2017
Ubisoft treated this game with the respect that a franchise like Mario deserves. So while control issues plague what might have been an absolutely amazing experience, this is still a game that Switch owners should really consider picking up. This is not the game we asked for, but a game that more than deserves to exist.
  69. Sep 4, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a mashup that shouldn't work, but does. Taking Nintendo's beloved mascot and combining him with their own, love them or hate them Rabbids - Ubisoft has made a Mario game that feels every bit a Nintendo first party title. Aside from some odd difficulty spikes and a lack of replayability, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a fantastic turn-based strategy title that both newcomers and fans of the genre should definitely experience.
  70. Sep 8, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a good addition to the current Switch lineup. I’m not sure if I would say that in a year from now once more exclusives are available, but for anyone starving to play a new game with Mario, Ubisoft has you covered! You could also play it if you miss the Rabbids, if you wanted. I did enjoy my time with this, but found the pace of battles to be awkward without any way to customize the settings. I’m no developer, but if they could patch something in, this would be a lot more enjoyable and probably even fun! Don’t expect this to replace the games it rips off, but there is a good time to be had in this weird mashup.
  71. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is an unexpected delight. Fans of tactical strategy games should absolutely pick this one up as soon as possible and enjoy dozens of hours of intense battles and detailed progression.
  72. 80
An unlikely mash-up, Mario+Rabbids is a very unique game. The turn-based strategy elements aren't going to be for everyone, but for Mario fans this alternative look into the Mushroom Kingdom isn't worth passing up.
  73. Sep 5, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a hilarious, fun, and attractive looking title, despite some technical flaws here and there that are quickly overlooked due to all of its intrinsic qualities. If anything, this is perhaps the one Rabbid game that will truly push the critters into the realm of mainstream on a worldwide level, more so than they have ever been so far, simply because they are such a perfect fit with Mario in that universe, in a way that nobody would have ever expected. It's challenging, for sure, so fans of Mario who are wary of strategy games beware. If even ever so slightly interested in strategy, though, and willing to sit through it all, persevering as much as it takes to see it through to the end is a complete blast. Well worth checking out.
  74. Sep 5, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is both charming and satisfyingly deep at the same time. The strategic fights are often easy to understand but hard to beat. It’s a surprising well-made marriage between the iconic Nintendo characters and the irreverent Rabbids.
  75. Sep 3, 2017
Nothing about Mario Rabbids should work. It's enough of a shock that Ubisoft Milan managed to bring together these two worlds so well, then it successfully makes its cast the stars of a genre none of them has ever been near. Robust in how it plays and confident in its presentation, Kingdom Battle is exactly the kind of bold and fun exclusive Switch needed in its first year.
  76. Sep 1, 2017
While it's not without its own small issues, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle should be on the short-list of Switch games every player should own.
  77. Aug 31, 2017
Despite owing so much to XCOM, this is a fantastically imaginative and enjoyable strategy game that’s as accessible as the genre has ever been on consoles.
  78. Aug 30, 2017
While Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle may have been the crossover that no one wanted, it's materialised as a really good one with some interesting systems, despite its smattering of shortcomings. It shouldn't work, but it does.
  79. Aug 29, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is not perfect, but most its problems can be ignored because they are relegated to portions of the game you can skip or speed through. The core experience of the game, the battles, are inventive and fun. Though it is still a strategy game, and therefore a niche experience that appeals to a specific type of player, its carefree tone, bright colors, and fast pace make it feel inviting. There’s plenty of nuance to find in Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, so long as you’re willing indulge its playful side.
  80. Aug 29, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a surprising and unlikely game - or perhaps surprisingly unlikely, as it offers fun and engaging combats, a good variety of characters and abilities to choose from and a series of mechanics that will make many players interested in a tactical turn-based RPG crossover featuring Mario and the Raving Rabbids. Upon realizing all this, the most pressing question would be: why hasn't anybody thought of this before?
  81. Aug 28, 2017
Having the Mario and Rabbids universes meet in a Tactical RPG might seem like a risky bet. But it works. Mario + Raving Rabbids Kingdom Battle is both a convincing crossover and a convincing Tactical RPG that fits perfectly on the Switch. And the local coop mode is just the icing on the cake.
  82. Aug 28, 2017
During the 20+ hours that can be plugged into Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle campaign, fans will be exposed to a funny and visually engaging world worth exploring that features some genuinely challenging portions of combat. Reoccurring enemies may weigh down an otherwise varied universe, but the end result of this partnership between Ubisoft and Nintendo is a wonderful, tactics-heavy venture that Switch owners won’t want to let pass them by.
  83. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is yet another great Nintendo Switch exclusive, and one of the most original Mario titles we’ve seen in a long time. It may not do much outside of the core combat, but even that is enough to keep you entertained for its duration. Just be prepared for the sharp difficulty spikes, and don’t expect the game to go easy on you.
  84. Aug 28, 2017
While the premise is about as ludicrous as one would expect from the Rabbids, there's a real strong game underneath all that goofiness. The strategic action isn't quite as punishing as some of the more established franchises in the genre, but Kingdom Battle still manages pack some smart gameplay tricks into a welcoming experience for Switch owners.
  85. Aug 28, 2017
While Mario + Rabbids plays a lot like X-Com, it's not that game at all, aside from the turn based strategy part. The game is a surprising and charming tale with a ton of humour and cheerful soundtrack inspired by the 90s. You'll not only find yourself liking a Rabbids game, but probably loving it. Up there with the best on Switch.
  86. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle comes in a fun package full of exciting comedic adventures utilizing a strategy style gameplay with an easy learning curve and very rich content.
  87. Aug 28, 2017
Mario and Rabidds come together in a videogame with high doses of humor, entertainment and style. Ubisoft and Nintendo have joined forces to create a great exclusive for Nintendo Switch.
  88. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids gives you the action and strategy of XCOM in a way that does justice both to Mario and to the Rabbid’s kooky style. Ubi’s big E3 surprise is an unmissable Switch game.
  89. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids manages to walk a narrow road, offering up a legitimately challenging squad tactics experience without alienating the family friendly Mario audience. While it doesn’t quite have the full layer of spit and polish of an in-house title, Ubisoft comes damn close to capturing that Nintendo magic.
  90. Aug 28, 2017
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle offers its own take on the turn-based strategy genre while managing to be fun and deeper than you'd ever expect, even if the experience is over with just a little too soon.
  91. Aug 28, 2017
While the allure of these two franchises coming together may be the draw for many, the surprising depth to its combat and the replayability that it offers are the real highlights.
  92. Aug 28, 2017
Who would have thought that Rabbids and Nintendo characters wold work so well together? Ubisoft has surprised us all by creating a fun, entertaining and not-too-simplified turn-based-tactics game that almost seems like it’s made in Kyoto. Well done!
  93. Aug 28, 2017
Easily the best game the Rabbids have ever been in and quite possibly Mario’s best non-Nintendo spin-off.

As strange as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle sounds on paper, there are some really good ideas in the mix. Having XCOM's battle gameplay presented in a more light lighthearted fashion and greatly enhancing character movement are both excellent touches. It’s not perfect, but there’s a lot to like from this unlikely combination.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle looks, plays and sounds better than you would've ever expected from such a confusing crossover - an interesting take on the X-COM formula that can start to feel tedious, but starts amazingly and will keep many players stuck into the turn-based strategy shooter.

Based on its colorful world, beautiful animation, and source material you might expect Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle to be “My first turn-based tactics game.” But you’re in for a surprise: even for XCOM vets some of its battles are challenging puzzles. Some of its tougher levels do devolve into a trial-and-error slog, but a good mix of enemies, objectives, and character abilities keep things interesting.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle's guts are impressive, but its main event feels like a [good] expansion for a fleshed-out strategy RPG that has more to offer than a great combat system.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is very charming and the whole aesthetic is perfectly executed. However, pesky gameplay shortcomings and a nasty difficulty spike halfway through hamper this Nintendo love-letter.

Mario + Rabbids is an incredibly welcome surprise. I assumed that a game starring Rabbids would become grating long before completion, but my fears turned out to be unsubstantiated. Beep-0 is a great lead character, and the Rabbids' hijinks are dialed back to a level that works. This is a fun take on a tactical RPG; the simplification of hit percentages worked especially well. The game isn't without fault — greater variety in characters and levels along with more meaningful customization would be welcome — but most of the issues are minor in comparison to how much fun the game is to play. Hopefully Mario + Rabbids marks the beginning of a new series and a sequel will take these ideas further.

A challenging but repetitive tactical RPG. [Issue#192, p.72]

That a crossover as bonkers as Mario plus Rabbids by way of XCOM even exists is to be celebrated, and fortunately it's an absorbing title that's only slightly diminished by some simplistic cover mechanics.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has lots of charmingly frivolous things to think about and it’s easy to collapse into its world of tactical antics because its gameplay is so absorbing.

This rollercoaster ride of a turn-based strategy game starts out almost impossibly strong, but by the end I mostly wished it'd been over three hours earlier.

It's hard to believe that throwing two disparate, popular franchises into a completely new genre works as well as it does. Believe it, though: Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a fun and engaging introduction to the tactical RPG genre that can please neophytes and veterans alike.

This wonky crossover is the unlikely source of a superbly designed tactical combat challenge as well as a charmingly silly adventure. [Recommended]

Mario + Rabbids is way better than it has any right to be.

It’s fascinating to see Kingdom Battle put Mario on a pedestal as an unmistakable piece of pop culture and somehow merge him into a surprisingly exciting strategy game.

It’s easy to go into Mario + Rabbids with low expectations. It’s a mashup that doesn’t seem to make much sense, in a genre that feels counter to Super Mario’s playful spirit. But you should definitely look past the crazed, Rabbid-infused exterior. Mario + Rabbids isn’t just a great strategy game brimming with charm and clever ideas. It also joins the likes of Breath of the Wild, Arms, and Splatoon 2 in showcasing the best the Switch has to offer.

Its battles have that crucial ‘one more go’ element that will make long journeys breeze by (battery permitting), and while its writing may leave something to be desired, once you properly get into all the permutations of the combat system you’ll be hooked. Roll on the new Season Pass levels.

I'm here to tell you Kingdom Battle is a hell of a game, a strategy RPG with more in common with Fire Emblem than XCOM, one that wraps a satisfying turn-based combat game—featuring surprising depth to its systems and mechanics—in the approachable accessibility that's come to define modern Nintendo games...I'm as shocked as you are, but more than 10 hours later, I can't put the game down.

The game play is surprisingly challenging, while easy to approach it still has enough depth to keep you entertained in the long run.

To top things off the soundtrack is amazing!

A must buy if you own a Switch!
