One Strike is a truly unique, 'pure' video game. For the asking price, you get a rather fresh take on the one-on-one fighting genre and it can quickly become your go-to game when you are in need of a break between other more complex games or just need a quick burst of intensive reflex exercise. Find a group of like-minded players to play it with you and it becomes your current best, most efficient option to ruin friendships on the Switch (at least until Super Mario Party is released). Grab it without fear and then... either strike or die. There are literally no other options.

One Strike lets you take control of six different warriors as you fight to determine who is the deadliest. The simplistic yet tense gameplay will keep you on your toes. The small roster and limited variety to the modes are fun in bursts, but not for extended periods of time. That being said, One Strike is a fun fighter to pick up and play at a low cost.

Overall, regardless of a missed block or two and too many similar modes, One Strike is a fun game to play if you have friends over and want to split the Joy Cons, or even if you have five to ten minutes to spare by yourself.

One Strike is mildly fun, but woefully ill equipped to provide any long term value.

One Strike will make a good addition to any gathering of friends but don't expect much life from it as a solo experience.

There are only 8 fighters but each one is so unique in their attack, defense and "side-step". Since the game is one-hit-kill it makes every decision you make all that more calculating. Timing is everything and makes it very gratifying when you land that hit/kill. If you're looking for a game to play with a friend or sibling, I highly recommend this game. Price is very reasonable for the amount of time you'll spend playing. Expand

Such a simple game, but so fun. Attack, block, or dash left/right. Each character has a different kind of attack and some characters have other quirks that make you play differently when facing against them—or playing as them! When you first start the game you'll wonder why Easy mode is called such, because without knowing the intricacies of each character you'll be defeated frequently. I recommend starting the game on Tournament mode, as this mode lets you not only fight AI but also watch them duke it out with each other, as you all fight to see who's #1. This way you can sit back and watch what makes these characters different from each other.

Aside from the gameplay, One Strike has a wonderful soundtrack and charming pixel art/animation. If you are a fan of chiptune music, pixel art, fighting games, or just Japan in general, One Strike is a killer choice and definitely something you should pick up soon! Not to mention on Switch it's only 5 dollars. What a steal!

With your only options being move, dash, attack, and block, you might be tempted to give up on this game after only a few minutes. Don't. Each of the game's fighters has hidden nuances to be discovered and mastered, making for some extremely fun, quick, and intense one-on-one duels with friends and family. If you have someone to play with, whose friendship you're willing to lose, this game is a steal. Expand
