If you’re in the market for a game that does have relatively little structure, then that won’t do — though I’ll hasten to add that the game also includes a sandbox mode, where you can build to your heart’s content. But if, like me, you’re a more goal-oriented sort of player, then you’ll find that RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures offers a perfect blend of creativity and structure.
You’ll rue the lack of some crucial features, and its performance will grate on you, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in shaping your own park. Whether you’re aiming for the prettiest themed landscape, or care more about building massive and crazy roller coasters, there’s plenty for you to sink your teeth into. Just don’t expect to be able to micro-manage every element of your park, and you shouldn’t be too disappointed.
I read that it was a version for kids so I offered it to my 8y/o daughter and I played for a few hours myself. She loves it and I feel like it's a very good introduction to management games for anyone who never played one, or who doesn't have time to play more complex ones. Stay away from it if you expect a port of Planet Coaster on Switch though.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures is both incredibly enjoyable and considerably infuriating. There’s just enough of that classic magic in there to make the design and management of a theme park a consistently rewarding experience, and using permits and research to space out your access to the good stuff makes this a genuinely fun time sink. However, the level of automation that’s migrated over from the mobile iteration really does negatively impact this Switch port, and issues with overall performance place a big caveat around its neck. While it's not a total disaster, RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures does leave you wanting a little more – especially if you're a seasoned fan of the long-running series.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures brings to the Nintendo Switch one of the most iconic gaming series, originally developed for the PC and which has found its way into nearly every platform out there. While the main essence of the series is here to be found and developing theme parks is fun and engaging, this adaptation is mired by technical issues which should have been corrected and being based on the mobile version means the experience feels oversimplified, the Nintendo Switch deserved more than this.
RollerCoaster Tycoon: Adventures is pleasant on the eyes, but is in every other way a disappointment. It's a shallow grind, which challenges none of the player's management skills, and comes across more as an opportunity to simply decorate a theme park.
Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures is somewhat of an underwhelming game. While a younger player could find potentially some fun in building attractions and coasters, it will feel absolutely flat for most.
For this Switch version, Rollercoaster Tycoon has forgot everything that was important in the franchise: customization and management are as weak as the framerate on big parks and the interface isn’t user-friendly at all.
Ok, this is no where near a perfect Rollercoaster Tycoon game. Thrillville or Planet Coaster are far more better, but guess what, those aren't on current consoles. This game is better than Rollercoaster Tycoon World that is for sure! I love sim building games and I couldn't wait for this to come out. I knew it probably wasn't going to be like RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, but it tries, I will give it that. One bad thing about this game is the lag. Once the park gets really big, the game lags and it is kind of annoying. I really hope they fix this, but they probably won't because this game almost didn't even happen for the Switch. The other bad thing is that you can't ride the rides like you could in other Rollercoaster Tycoon games. This really is a stripped down version of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. I still enjoy the game, don't get me wrong. I am happy that it is on the Switch and I have put a lot of time into it. I do recommend the game if you absolutely love sim building games. This and City Skylines is perfect for you!
It looks good but is a very shallow experience. Flat rides are overturned to the point where building coasters is irrelevant. Hopefully the upcoming title upgrade fixes it.

Wow! I trusted Rollercoaster Tycoon to have a little bit of consistency and boy did they disappoint. The gameplay is buggy (crashed during a tutorial!) the graphics are just ok which for the price is disappointing in itself, but the worst part is the coaster building. Building coasters is a staple of the coaster tycoon games. It’s the part many who play the game enjoy the most and I was very much looking forward to it myself. But the building mechanics for designing your own coaster in Adventures are some of the most complicated and convoluted I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I could have come up with something this bad if I was being paid to do so! And don’t count on the tutorials to help you make sense of it all because all they offer are more confusion. I don’t think there is any way a tutorial could have helped anyway. It’s that ridiculous. I spent 30 minutes just trying to make sense of the track building during which time I accidentally opened the coaster for business and deleted the entire ride at least twice only to have the game finally crash because even the game itself can’t make sense of it. It is so frustrating and confusing I almost threw my controller (on a RC Tycoon game!) and I never get frustrated at games! I can not believe I spent money on this! $50 gone!
It's a Skinner box, people, it gives you endless tasks to complete that give you small rewards for completing them. It is utterly impossible to fail, which makes everything you do feel hollow and pointless. It loads very slowly and parks with a lot of entities lag considerably. Even kids would be disappointed to play this non-game provided they know other better games exist. Avoid at all costs, especially since there are much better theme park management games available (RCT Classic for example is half the price ($20), Parkitect is another good option (also $20), Planet Coaster is only 5 dollars more ($45) and has far more game).
