Chronicles of Mystara’s long-awaited English-language home debut has been handled with great care, bringing us an experience that’s virtually identical to the arcades and successfully tugging at nostalgic heartstrings.
Chronicles of Mystara will appeal to D&D enthusiasts, beat-‘em-up fans, and anyone feeling misty-eyed about the disappearance of arcades from our towns.
A bundle of two cool beat 'm ups that are still worth playing. Although the second part is the classic that you can keep playing over and over again, the first is more of a fun addition to the package. The online and offline co-op work perfectly, and the new vault point system with which you can buy game-additions is a nice bonus. If you want to play one of the best beat 'm ups ever, you should play Chronicles of Mystara.
Nonetheless, flashes of brilliance are in evidence throughout these Dungeons & Dragons adventures, and both games were far enough ahead of their time to hold up to scrutiny. Four friends could have a great time blasting through both games in an extended evening get-together.
The pinnacle of arcade scrolling beat ‘em-ups and still amongst the best the genre can offer today, despite some change-chomping difficulty spikes.
It is a nice trip down memory lane, but against modern competition like Castle Crashers or Odin Sphere this multiplayer brawler shows its age.
