  • Summary: Pier Solar is a love letter to the rich, imaginiative 16-bit RPGs of a bygone era. It was originally designed and developed for the SEGA Mega Drive & SEGA Genesis. Yes, you read that right!! It was actually the only freshly developed of its kind in the new millennium. It's not a port, fan translation, or a copy of any other game. Pier Solar is a 100% brand new, entirely original,16-bit RPG with an original world, storyline, soundtrack, characters, enemies and a unique battle style. Collapse

With some of the strongest storytelling in its genre, now or in the past, a deep combat system and a top-notch presentation, Pier Solar HD is at the head of its class, easily sitting alongside some of the most cherished classics of its kind. It does have some flaws, though, namely its seeming disinterest in ever providing any real guidance to players, leaving them confused and wandering for longer than necessary.

If you can ignore the slow battle system, vapid story, and abysmal dialogue, Pier Solar's efforts may win your heart. If you've got no love for this genre, steer clear — this is one for enthusiasts only.

I'm sure some don't understand the genre and may give this game a lower score. For me it's a love letter to the 16 bit era of JRPGs from the late 80s and 90s which always hold a special place in my heart. Relentless random attacks, unnecessarily long battle animations, lack of enemy variety/reused sprites and all. Sure it's probably a niche game, but I think Watermelon really nailed this one. I'd give it a 12 if I could. Expand

Compared to the great titles of an era long past (something like Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Phantasy Star IV) this game is mediocre and boring. Deep combat system? Are you joking? You need to be really stupid to enjoy this repetitive and slow combat. Battles are really easy, and, if you take into account you'll be forced to face same kind of enemies hundred of times, it is very frustrating. Nice graphics and wonderful music, but all the rest is lame, boring. This is tech demo of what non professionals can do on mega drive. Playing this crap on wii u or ps3 is beyond my understanding Expand
