Like the Metroid titles that inspired it, the music, graphics, and world/enemy design are more than worth revisiting a few times a year. This may be Renegade Kid's best game yet, despite its relatively short length.
Its retro aesthetics adjust perfectly to its new ideas and despite its limited lifespan and very minimal plot, Xeodrifter has all the conditions for an intense and rewarding sidescrolling experience.
It's not an adventure for the faint of heart, but there's no reason that Xeodrifter should be overlooked by platforming fans – especially those missing a little Samus Aran in their lives.
I encourage everyone to give this title a download, though, as it’s an absolute blast to play, despite its shortcomings.
It's an interesting rework of classic metroidvania mechanics, where the teleporting ability adds something new to the mix. It's a shame for the final part, too quick and clearly lacking the depth of the first half, and the general lack of content.
Wearing its Metroid influences like a badge of pride, Xeodrifter's 2D exploration is equal parts fun and frustrating.
If you’re really hungry for a metroidvania but you expect something more than “some indie jam stuff” go for a much better Axiom Verge. [09/2015, p.69]

Summary Xeodrifter is the story of an interstellar drifter traveling the stars on a simple mission of exploration. We join our nomad as he embarks on the investigation of a small cluster of four planets in the omega sector, after a collision with a rogue asteroid damaged his warp core.
