It’s really nice to have Alone in the Dark back in form. And for it to have its own identity. After being such a pioneer, this series has spent so long chasing the horror genre popular trends and trying to read the lowest common denominator that it became little more than a pale imitation of other good ideas. It’s genuinely nice to have something that heads in its own direction, and is comfortable in providing a taut atmosphere and a focus on a chilling narrative rather than visceral scares. You could call it “quaint,” but I like to think of it more like a game Stephen King would like to see rather than another cash-in from the Saw writers.
Alone in the Dark scores with its intense atmosphere, exciting story and overall good puzzle design. There are deductions for the sluggish controls, the average fights and the backdrop-like game world. Overall, however, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive offer you a gripping and balanced action adventure with survival horror elements.
Great atmospheric game, fun to play through as well! Hopefully it does well and we can see a sequel soon, u can tell the devs put alot of love and care into this game
Don't know what everyone's problem is: I loved every minute of it. People are so picky nowadays and everyone is always so negative about everything -.-
Alone in the Dark checks all the boxes when it comes to gameplay elements you would expect in a modern survival horror, but these seem to be stuck in the past. It feels like a project made with passion but enough budget to hit the AAA expectations. The archaic mechanics do not involve a pleasant nostalgia, rather make the entire game feel outdated. Overall, it is not a bad game, but it does not have enough oomph to make it compete with the best games out there, let alone reconquer the throne of the genre. With a hefty discount it can become an interesting choice for the fans of the genre, a period that should also give time to the developers to fix the bugs that are still present.
While this revisit to the Derceto Manor can be a bit jank at times, it captures a genuinely macabre, unsettling, and investigative narrative that Alone in the Dark has long been missing.
It’s rare that I say this, but this video game probably should have been a movie instead. Honestly that’s the biggest thing I felt during this whole experience, between the live action stars, the way the cutscenes are shot and paced, the way the gameplay felt almost like an afterthought, it truly feels like they were basically trying to make a movie but decided it must be a game instead. Now, that’s not to say there’s nothing to enjoy, far from it! I really enjoyed the writing and performances, but it likely says something that I had a lot more fun just rushing through on a second playthrough on easy to see the story differences than I did on my initial go on normal where I actually had to explore.
While there are genuine moments of excitement and mystery to be found in Alone in the Dark, they simply aren’t enough to offset the mountain of issues that plague the game, at least in its current state. With clunky and unsatisfying combat and more bugs than an Ekbom Syndrome convention, Alone in the Dark is a game that’s best left in the shadows—at least until some serious updates have been done to sort out its most glaring issues.
After the excellent surrealist horror of Alan Wake 2, which revelled in its own strangeness while also delivering a clear, compelling story, Alone in the Dark is too staid, too clumsy, and too haphazard to invoke anything other than a shrug. The mystery surrounding Jeremy’s madness isn’t worth putting up with the ponderous unravelling, while the combat and puzzling are mere shadows of Resident Evil 2’s superior design. The curse, it seems, lives on.
Score made in relation to the last games we got from AitD - BIG step in the right direction! Just fix the clunky combat system. If they do The New Nightmare with this graphics, synchro and atmosphere then it's gonna be an insta buy. Congrats guys
So I gave this a 7/10 but this is a really good 7/10. The combat is meh and the sound mixing is questionable but the plot hooks you and the constant shift in locales and the oppressive Depression era setting is just great.
This is less survival horror and more action horror. So less Resident Evil and more Evil Within. Make sure you read all the notes, journal entries etc. to get the plot. The game expects you to act like a detective and piece things together as you find them cause the characters will acknowledge the clues you have picked up in conversation even if you didnt take the time to read them.
Alone in the Dark (2024) being the best entry in the series since at least 2001 is a very low bar, but I still enjoyed it overall. Yes, it's unpolished. And yes, the combat isn't on par with something like Resident Evil 4 Remake. But this game nonetheless retains everything that is vital in making a survival horror work. A solid story with multiple endings and strong lead performances, thematically rich and deep in lore, dreadful atmosphere and filled to the brim with challenging puzzles (though a few are a bit too vague). And to compliment the game's otherwise bland visuals is a fantastic artistic representation of 1930s society.
It was a boring, unsatisfying and not scary experience. Clunky combat against stupid enemies and boring puzzles.
Some places were atmospheric and the ok story motivated me to finish this game. At the end I was happy to see the screen with the credits.
Não se parece como um jogo de ps5, esperava bem mais deste remake. Ficou com gráficos feios para o padrão da indústria. Poucos puzzles e muita ação para um jogo que deveria se passar grande parte dele, na escuridão.
