  • Summary: (Also known as "Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City") If life were an endless vacation, what would you do? Go fishing, collect shells or watch fireworks with friends? Build a snowman, exchange presents with family or decorate your house for the holidays? Take a trip to the city, go on a shopping spree or visit friends from all over the globe? In Animal Crossing: City Folk, life moves at a relaxed pace, but the world brims with endless possibilities. There's always something new to do. In the living, breathing world of Animal Crossing: City Folk, days and seasons pass in real time, so there’s always something to discover. Catch fireflies in the summer, go trick-or-treating on Halloween or hunt for eggs on Bunny Day. If you're in the mood for something a little faster paced, take a bus to a new urban city area that’s unique to Animal Crossing: City Folk. There you can catch a show at the theater or check out the sales at Gracie's boutique. But if you don't show your face back home for too long, your neighbors will miss you. Up to four people from your household can live and work together to build the perfect town. Design clothes and patterns, write letters and post messages on the bulletin board for each other, or invite up to three friends to visit your town using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. With the new WiiSpeak microphone, it's like you’re all in the same room. The microphone sits atop the sensor bar and picks up the conversation of everyone in the room to encourage a more inclusive experience. [Nintendo] Expand

  1. Not so much a sequel as the Cube version with new features, but still essential for anyone happy to start again.
  2. Only the stony-hearted would fail to appreciate at least some of this game. [Jan 2009, p.48]
  3. A great game at heart, newcomers should pick it up immediately, others proceed with caution.
  4. If I may put my series-wide disappointments aside, Animal Crossing: City Folk is still a superb title that should be picked up by everyone who has yet to play an Animal Crossing game.
  5. Sadly, local co-op isn't an option, the graphics look last generation and we had little fun using the WiiSpeak microphone. If you're a fan of the series, you'll want to move into this City right away. Otherwise, pay a casual visit before you settle down.

New arrivals will probably enjoy the multitude of activities in Animal Crossing: City Folk, but long-time residents won't find much to keep them from moving out.

City Folk just seems like a huge missed opportunity - either that, or a lazy cash-in on Nintendo's newfound casual audience. If it's the former, they ought to just call it Wii Mortgage Payments.

Why do people always say: "There's not enough improvement, and it's just like the prequel!" I mean that's what I like in a series! I hate it when game's get too much *Improvement* because some times it makes a once good series into a bad one people liked previous AC games so Nintendo probably just didn't want to rock the boat! And NO the graphics don't look like crap I personally think they look GREAT! It may be like other AC titles but that doesn't change the fact that it's a great game! Expand

When I first played this game I was expecting to be bored out of my mind, but was surprised to find out that this is a very fun game for both casual and hardcore gamers alike. There's a surprising amount of freedom (I just wish I could decorate my bedroom) and content in this game, and it's got loads of charm. It will keep you coming back every day. Expand

So. People have been saying bad things about this game. So.... its Animal Crossing: Wild World on wii. SO The hell what? The city may not add much but its better looking, bigger, and The Wii specific controls make it a hell of a lot easier to use. Ignore those congenital idiots who call themselves 'critics' and buy this game, before someone else does! Expand

Better graphics, impressive improvement and added features. (such as going to the city) The charming characters become more aware of your presence, history and whatever you have done. It is definitely worth playing, easy to get the hang of it. However, I prefer the DS version. There is just something missing in this Animal Crossing that make me really really like it... Expand

It's clear that with City Folk Nintendo has played it safe with what is pretty much a reboot of Wild World on the Wii. So as a standalone title it's an absolute blast. As a 'sequel' it's disappointing. It's certainly the best in the series, but doesn't come close to matching the amount of new content that wild world added from its prequel on the GameCube. The little that is new isn't that enthralling - the 'City' in fact hinders the experience as all the characters that randomly show up in your town are now recycled in a plain setup accessible whenever you desire! Seems like a good thing but kind of takes a lot of the surprise and wonder out of the game when they used to visit. And there's little more to talk about? It's wild world 1.5.And it's not as if Nintendo are out of ideas - you can visit thousands of pages across gaming forums with really cool and possible ways to innovate the series, instead we get a lazy effort. Then again a GOOD lazy effort, but still a lazy effort. Not picked up Wild World? Go have a read of a review on that, if it sounds like your kind of thing - buy City Folk. Otherwise save yourself for the 3DS version. Expand
