  • Summary: Whether it's by land, sea or air, BlastWorks: Build, Trade, Destroy challenges you to a frenetic geometric battle. As you destroy your opponents, you can absorb their parts and use them to make your own ship bigger and stronger. In addition, level and ship editors let you customize and design to your liking and then trade creations with friends. With bright, abstract graphics and fast-paced action, this "sticky" creative shooter based on the Tumiki Fighters online game will suck you in for the long haul. Become a massive ship over 15+ different missions by playing with the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk controller or the Wii Classic Controller. Design your own levels, ships, enemy ships, objects, and bosses with the in-depth Blastworks Editor. Assign Bullet Patterns, Sound FX, movement patterns, hit boxes, and more in the Ship Editor portion of the Blastworks Editor. Trade custom ships, levels and high scores with your friends via WiiConnect24. Absorb the pieces and weapons of destroyed enemies to build a larger, stronger ship that prepares you to fight more formidable Boss Ships.     A Wii game combining a clever shoot-em-up with a surprisingly rich (if reasonably limited) object editor that lets you create your own levels and scenes. If you've ever had the itch to make your own shooter but don't know a lick about programming, this is one of the best ways to go about it.
  2. Blast Works sure looks juvenile, but it's not a bad shooter--it's an enhanced version of "Tumiki Fighters", an indie PC game that uses "Katamari Damacy"-like mechanics. [June 2008, p.76]

    This isn't a "pick up and play" experience. This is something that requires you to sit down and work with for days -- maybe weeks -- at a time before you start to see the fruits of your labor. Still, once you get a chance to play your game, it's extremely rewarding.
  5. Blast Works, is, on many levels, quite an achievement. The game is one part shooter, one part game creator and one part trading station; and all three of these components function well.
  6. A competent shooter that gains most of its value from its outstanding creation tools.

    Blast Works is a very ambitious game. Based off of a japanese flash game, you play a ship which can collect the pieces of destroyed enemy ships to make it stronger. To me, this game is absolutely average: the offensive pieces can be tough to catch properly, sometimes putting your little ship in danger while you try and get them in the perfect position. After awhile, you just straight-up can't see the screen due to the pieces of your uber-ship. The bosses absolutely spam bullets, making them next to impossible to beat, even with your uber-ship. This game draws you in for 10 minutes, then you put it away and never play it again. Not even the unlockables can get me in the mood to beat the game. It is perhaps the most "average" game i've ever played, with an admittedly really cool idea. Don't let that sucker you into buying this game, it isn't worth it. Expand

    This game is a lie. This game made it sound that the game was top-notch when it was actually pretty bad.
    The game looked like one of those
    cheap flash games on computers and even those are better than this. Expand
