    Truly one of the best games ever made, it is one of the best RPGs if not THE BEST ever made. The game broke many barriers and limitations that most other RPGs of its time had and paved way a road for future RPGs. One of the best storylines and a original cast of characters, amazing gameplay and beautiful visuals and music, this game will capture your heart if you are new to the series or to RPGs. RPG lovers will surely enjoy this timeless classic as the game has aged perfectly throughout the years, even to this day the game has been remade and re-enhanced several times as it has been released on the Playstation, Nintendo DS and recently the iOS. Regardless of what system you get it on, this game is and will be worth every single penny.… Expand

The plot is complex and layered, with the power to travel through time giving it scope and freedom. The combat system is fast paced and original and there is a clear emphasis on not bogging the player down in menu screens and items lists. This explains why characters are revived and statuses are cured after battle. This, along with new game+, is a breath of fresh air and helps the game stand out in a crowded genre. Characters are interesting both in terms of personality and in combat styles, with certain techniques only executable by certain members. Boss battles are suitably climactic and never fail to excite. The game does not make grinding a necessity (a feature which characterized many RPG's of the time) so the player can swiftly move through the story. The music is spectacular and, most importantly, fits the game perfectly. No RPG fan should miss this game.… Expand

This game doesn't involve so much grinding like most RPG does which leads you to move forward with the story and knowing each party member's back story and their unique personalities. Not only this is one the best RPG games I had ever played, but also one of the most amusing games with a time travel concept in the storytelling. If you're a fan of RPG's, then Chrono Trigger is the game that is worth your time.… Expand

But actually what impressed me the most about this game was it's funA pretty nice RPG with a good story and some interesting characters. But actually what impressed me the most about this game was it's fun gameplay :-) It's one of the best uses of a turn based system I've seen in quite some time.
    I will say however that modern RPGs obviously have some advantages over old RPGs like this one. Voiceover probably being the biggest one. I don't know if it's just me, but to me the voice is part of a characters personality and without that it definitely feels like there's missing something. And I've never cared to much about graphics, but it's obviously not optimal when a face is only 20 pixels. It's just missing detail.

    But I will say that Chrono Trigger is one of the RPGs that have aged well though. Despite these issues it still manages to be a great overall experience.

    I would give it 8/10 compared to modern RPGs, but 9/10 compared to old ones :-)    … Collapse
