A wonderfully simple, infectiously enthusiastic joyride that maintains the spirit of the original while adding depth. If enough gamers notice it during the holiday deluge of sequels, de Blob could become a cult hit.
  2. With such complete attention to the teensiest of details, it’s obvious that de Blob was more than just another project for all those involved; it captured their imaginations and became a labour of love.
  3. A treat of a game that's as creative and funky as it is new and interesting - we can't recommend it enough. [Nov 2008, p.77]
  4. Great gameplay combines with a strong control scheme, superb visuals, and light-hearted music to make de Blob not just a great puzzle-come-platform, but a great game.
  5. The visuals are wonderful, the music is happy and the multiplayer modes are as fun as the single-player campaign. No matter how old you are, this game will paint a smile on your face.
  6. de Blob is defined by its pure unadulterated fun. While it doesn't have the best platforming, the most complicated puzzles, or the most involved action mechanics, as a whole it's something to behold.
  7. It is a rare game that can appeal equally well to both the casual and hardcore crowds, yet de Blob does just that. It is a brilliant fusion of simple mechanics and in-depth play that deserves checking out.
  8. Easily one of the best third-party titles released on the Wii. Hopefully a sequel will add a better combo system.
  9. As a PC title, de Blob was a charming game, but as a Wii title the game stands out as among the best on the system.
  10. In a sea of brown, grey and black sameyness, this is a rainbow life-raft of joy. Ignore all the joyless people who moan, and get splatting.
  11. This title may not have the most varied or difficult gameplay, but it is incredibly fun to play, and the different modes and goals give it some decent replay value. de Blob is an awesome title, and while it may not be the most action-packed or drama-filled title on the market, it provides countless hours of colorful fun.
  12. One part Katamari Damacy, two parts of the humor in Rayman Raving Rabbids, de Blob takes everything both of those titles did right and adds it to a unique and entertaining story and gameplay mechanic.
  13. 85
de Blob is an undeniably infectious game. On all fronts, the game is polished and high quality, making it one of the best third-party titles available for the Wii.
  14. But if you’re a fan of Jet Grind Radio, Katamari Damacy, or any stylish, pseudo-sandbox style game, then get de Blob today. You won't be disappointed.
  15. With de Blob you get a well-done skillful game on the Wii, which will make both casual as well as hardcore gamers happy. The controls are easy to get into and after a while one doesn't want to let the WiiMote / Nunchuk out of hand again.
  16. After spending my time with it though I have to say that this is a solid third-party entry that a lot of people need to play.
  17. 84
I think de Blob is one of the best third-party efforts to come over to Wii in a long time. This is a fun, stylized 3D platformer that oozes atmosphere and shines with amazingly slick presentation and polish.
  18. de Blob has style, it’s got simple but great gameplay, and it offers enough challenge to keep even hardcore platforming enthusiasts happy, while not alienating the casual gaming market. As far as third party games go, this is the cream of the crop for the Wii, and hopefully, other developers will sit up and take notice.
  19. de Blob's Katamari-like premise is simple yet compelling, but repetitive challenge types and a general lack of gameplay variety keep it from being essential.
  20. What's here is just as wild and wacky as the original and it's a benchmark game for the Wii. If you own a Wii, this is one game you don't want to overlook.
  21. Along with the bright and colorful visuals, the music really plays a big part in de Blob as well.
  22. Yes the controls can be imprecise and some may balk at the unfriendly save system but the colors, the whimsy and the style keep things entertaining. Most importantly, the game is just plain fun. Oozing with style and Day-Glo colored antics, de Blob takes platforming and transforms it with a beautiful new coat of paint.
  23. de Blob shows the world that the power of ideas is more powerful than the power of a big budget. Blue Tongue isn't a very prominent videogames company, but they have brought us an incredible sensation of gameplay based on the simple concept of covering a monochrome world with an original explosion of colour.
  24. In a world of family-friendly games whose desire to appeal to all makes them feel wishy-washy, it's a welcome splash of colour. [Nov 2008, p.98]
  25. Probably the best and worst thing about de Blob is that it's got 'Destined For Cult Status' written all over it. It's certainly not the first game to mix platform and puzzle elements, but the fact it manages to do so in such a clever, endearing, stylish and instantly playable way makes this a game we'd heartily recommend to anyone who thirsts for a 'proper' Wii game, whatever that is.
  26. de Blob is fantastic fun that provides hours of enjoyable gameplay and will leave you tapping your foot and humming the soundtrack for weeks to come.
  27. It seems impossible to dislike De Blob. Linear and slightly repetitive it may be, but it's the most colourful and ambitiously fresh project the Wii's seen to date.
  28. de Blob isn't all it could have been, mainly down to the odd awkward jump and a slightly too simplistic first half, but it's still an extremely polished and well put together game.
  29. The Blob is a very high quality product with almost no flaws whatsoever. But most importantly The Blob is original. It's a form of art and a videogame in one. The Blob is one of the few Wii games that can actually hold our attention for more than a couple of hours. The game is just one big splash of fun.
  30. The game's presentation is really awesome. Maybe it's not technically impressive, but the artistic design of the visuals is really enjoyable and a large part of what makes De Blob such a joy to play. Painting Chroma City is a fresh and satisfying experience. Multiplayer modes are fun and the way the graphics and sound combine is one of this game's greatest features.
  31. There is plenty of content, several different multiplayer modes, and a large amount of replayability.
  32. De Blob is just one of those games that brings a smile to your face. You wouldn't think that rolling around in a ball coloring the environment would be this fun but it is. It's well adjusted to the Wii control and despite the hardware limitations the game looks great. There are flaws, but the overall experience is just pure fun.
  33. Magic is the word that best describes this game. Coloring of grey objects was never so fun – creative players heartily welcomed. Better camera would help next time. [Dec 2008]
  34. Essentially, de Blob seems the perfect game for Wii. Making use of its very pleasing graphics, very well made and fluid, for a Wii fan, this is certainly a recommended game.
  35. Painting the town red, blue, or any other color is a lot of fun in this charming Wii platformer.
  36. Admittedly, there's not a ton of variety (there are only four basic mission types), but it remains fun throughout thanks to extremely polished controls, visuals, and music, as well as a surprisingly cool (and funny) story. [Nov 2008, p.98]
  37. deBlob is a game that is fun to play, very well polished and it reveals that Third Party developers can also make quality games for the Wii.
  38. 80
It's a beautifully immersive game that really takes advantage of the Wii's hardware to create a vivid and memorable experience.
  39. de Blob is a fantastic experience, but one that I wish had more depth and challenge. I think this is the start of a great franchise (game, toys, or TV show) and one that will surely improve in its next iteration.
  40. The title has some great ideas and produces a great, relaxed atmosphere. The game is missing the most important element to a game: the gameplay. [Oct 2008, p.105]
  41. 75
Despite not taking particular advantage of the Wii platform, it makes for one of the most relaxing, enjoyable titles on the system.
  42. de Blob relies on its central theme of using color to liberate, which is well developed and a sheer joy to play.
  43. It may be a straightforward game, but it’s also a fun one, and the imaginative presentation is very well accomplished. [Nov 2008, p.117]
  44. It may be a repetitive task too far to be truly great, but it shows that a little bit of colour certainly goes a long way.
  45. De Blob's wickedly funny story gives the game a wonderful charm. It may have its flaws, but De Blob is exactly the kind of game we’d like to see more of on Wii - bright, playful and gosh darn fun.
  46. 70
The most charming part of the game is how the music you hear while you play is tied directly to your art project. Each "mood" is a base groove, that starts off pretty slow and lacking in energy, but as you add color to the environment things get pretty jammin'.
  47. An ill-conceived expansion of an idea, as wafer-thin as the DVD it's pressed onto. [Nov 2008, p.81]
  48. We were genuinely hoping that de Blob would cater to all types of gamers, but ultimately found ourselves disappointed by its lack of development and attachment.

While the gameplay, dissapointingly, remains virtually unchanged throughout the game, it is a very good game, so ou won't really mind. One of the better Wii games, it's very innovative to begin with, but the un varied locations bore, the fantastic and, ahem, colourful gameplay shines through. Full Review »

One of the first games I got on the wii, back when it first came out, and it still is one of the best I have played. This game had a very unique and clever feel to it; the controls were smooth; the characters and visuals were stunning; and the overall gameplay was just outstanding!
The Multiplayer was also extremely fun, mashing it up with up to 4 friends in a street-splatter fest. And, it just never seemed to get old.
Two things this game could have improved on, was the story and variety of each level. Other than that, this game is really enjoyable, and probably one of the best games on the Wii

super creative and super original but is it super good? well no but it is good and on occasion it is very very good but this ride has its lows and its high points. It gets repetitive at times but overall it is a very fun and creative ride that you should take. The game is a lot of fun and it even has a multiplayer that seems fun but nobody i know played this game or had any interest in playing it so i don't know if it is good or not. The single player campaign is good during its roughly 15 hours playthrough. Full Review »
