Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is popularly considered the best in the series, but I feel the predecessor is a hair better. The graphics are still really stunning and beautiful, even for today. The score does not have as many amazing masterpieces as before, but it is always very fitting with the atmosphere and David Wise still manages to hit a couple pieces out of the park. I miss playing as Donkey Kong, however Dixie has a very helpful Helicopter Spin, so her skills did come in handy. The adventure was larger and offered more hours of pure fun. Getting 102% is too masochistic for my taste, but it gives the pros and completionists a run for their money. I had to cheat to get enough DK coins to get to every level in the final world and boss, but I did finish every level and boss fairly. Overall, it is a really fun SNES title and the added overall level difficulty makes this Kong Quest one to remember! Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. I was going to give it an 8 but decided to give it 4 out of 5 because, while a short game, it's fun to play. I had a great laugh when I noticed the island from Donkey Kong Country in the background. Great easter egg Rare! While cartwheeling through the rats is fun, I felt the best time had was when I got to be the rhino. Seriously, that think can kick some major ass! Beating the game required jumping onto a flag pole, much like in Mario Bros., except this time you get an item. I don't know what the item does or whether not getting it changes the ending but it was not the ending that I enjoyed most but the journey across Gangplank Galleon. After I beat the game a secret level opened up called Mainbrace Mayhem, which I assume gives you the game's soundtrack after you beat. You'll enjoy Donkey Kong Country 2 even if you aren't familiar with its predecessor, so go out to Gamestop and buy it! :) Full Review »
