A real classic, Donkey Kong Country is one of the most fun games the Wii Virtual Console has to offer. A few frustrating parts and the fact that the game doesn't play very well without a Classic Controller prevent me from giving it a 9 out of 10, but I can assure you, the Wii version is the best way to play this great game.

Donkey Kong Country is the second best-selling Super Nintendo Entertainment System game (outselling The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past by more than double!) for very good reason. It had the best graphics out of the entire console library due to the 3-D sprites. It also blew away the platforming genre with its creative levels and colorful worlds. The game has musical genius behind it and remains the best to this day. There were a few problems, though. Why does everyone pull a Cranky Kong and rant the game was too easy and too short. I agree that it was a little short for such an amazing game, but it did have challenging parts for sure. What about those mountain levels, especially Snow Barrel Blast excluding the suicidal shortcut! If you used any sort of glitch, played on a Game Boy, or played on a PC emulator, you have no right to say it was too easy if you saved whenever you wanted to! Also, having to buy the Wii Classic Controller to depart the awkward GameCube controls didn't put me in a good mood. I really hated dying when the platform was smaller than actually shown. The bosses were rather easy though, especially the second-to-last one, Dumb Drum. All it was was ten enemies! All these problems were actually pretty minor and didn't make the game that much worse. Overall, challenging, breathtaking title and a must for the Virtual Console shopper! Expand

Donkey Kong Country brought the WOW factor when it was released in 1994 and made the SNES a worthy console to own. Does this game hold up well today? For nostalgia purposes yes it does. However, I would bump the game down to a 9 rather than a 10 for realizing the game being pretty short with a few levels that were overwhelming with barrels. Overall, Donkey Kong Country is a well crafted game with jaw dropping visuals, a memorable soundtrack and an awesome sidekick named Diddy Kong. It's definitely one of the most memorable games I had ever played on the SNES and a must game to get for the Wii Virtual Console. Expand

One of the best games on one of the best consoles ever made. Donkey Kong Country looks great and plays beautifully, offering a solid challenge in a gorgeous environment. It doesn't really reinvent the wheel for 2-D platforming, but it does so many things so well it's impossible not to appreciate.
