  1. With more tracks, more bonus features and more strategic racing challenges, Excitebike: World Rally is a racing game that will keep you challenged with its ever-increasing difficulty and entertained with its track editor and online play.
  2. Excitebike: World Rally is a retro remake done right. Even with the unfortunate lack of local multiplayer, this one falls under the “must buy” category.
  3. "Excite Bike: World Rally" has great controls and is a successful upgrade to the original version. The graphics are crisp, the new controls option is easy to pick up, and it offers unlockable content and the track editor to keep players coming back.
  4. This is no Trials HD, but it's still great to play as a chummy pass-the-controller game, and nice to have stuck on an SD card for a rainy Sunday afternoon when there are no Columbo re-runs to watch on television. Nostalgic, colourful and modest, this is retro-gaming at its least self-conscious.
  5. Excite Bike for NES really is a perfect game, and it didn't need a remake. But now the remake Excitebike: World Rally is here and while to concept still is entertaining, you might as well get the original which still is more fun to play.
  6. Ultimately, World Rally is not a bad game, just entirely unnecessary.
  7. For those that don't remember the original this retro remake will likely prove a little too old school.
  8. Excitebike: World Rally is a genuine ode to the classic of the 1980s. The game mantains the gameplay that captivated fans of the original Excitebike and adds a better tracks editor, online multiplayer and beautiful graphics to the formula.
  9. A pleasant update to an NES classic, and one that's well worth a download.
  10. One of the most compelling features of Excitebike: World Rally is the ability to head online and engage in multiplayer races with both friends and random players.

As much as I still hold the classic near and dear to my heart I don't think it quite holds up to today's standards, but this 3D revisit is easily one of the better WiiWare offerings available.
  12. Excitebike: World Rally is a tribute of the original game, it inherits the original gameplay and visuals. The game swims in an immensity of the simple with an invaluable funny moments. The online mode is the best reason to get this game. The last reason is because is better than the classical game.
  13. Monster Games has made a nice work with the latest version of Excitebike, being exactly the same game that we enjoyed 20 years ago on NES. The graphics are just fine, just like the gameplay style that hasn't change at all. If you want to find a nice arcade experience for the Wii, go get it. Its price's the best reason you've got to do it, considering it's an WiiWare exclusive.
  14. Direct, fun and addictive like few games, but with few new features apart from the graphics and the multiplayer mode.
  15. World Rally is an almost perfect tribute to the original Excitebike, but maybe it's just too old for the modern player. Its quick action and the online multiplayer fits well in the WiiWare context, but it's better enjoyed in short sessions.
  16. Think of World Rally as more a trip down memory lane than an evolution of the series. It may be short ride, but even if just on the strength of its online multiplayer, it's worth at least one lap around the track if you fondly remember the classic.

Nothing's truly new or captivating here. It feels like a half-hearted cash-in designed to prey on our nostalgia, not unlike Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. It's nothing but a curiosity, fun for the few minutes prior to the realization of just how badly Excitebike has aged.
  18. Excitebike: World Rally is a really good example of how to take a classic, simple game and bring it into the modern era.
  19. Excitebike: World Rally, like its predecessor, seamlessly merges simplicity with fun.

If you're a fan of the original Excitebike then chances are you'll certainly enjoy World Rally on the Wii. Its new look and refined gameplay offer a fresh take on a timeless classic, but be prepared to share a controller.
  21. Maybe they should have just called it "Bike" instead. [Issue#91, p.127]
  22. Mildly modernized Excitebike. That can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on your point of view. [Apr 2010]
  23. Excitebike: World Rally isn't a revolution for the series; heck, it isn't even an evolution, really. However, over 20 years later, the gameplay holds up incredibly well and fits the WiiWare platform like a glove. The lack of local multiplayer is truly a drag, and for the price, the unlockables don't do much to strengthen the value. That being said, Excitebike has a lot of personality, and it's certainly a game worthy of a new lease on life.
  24. While this is enjoyable stuff, more should have been done. [Mar 2010, p.73]
  25. Not including local multiplayer might seem like a yellow flag to some, but the strong online component is sure to give the game legs if past Nintendo racers like Mario Kart DS are any indication.

"Anyone who thinks this game isn't an improvement over the original needs to go back and play it after playing this game to see just how much better this is."

Had to quote this previous reviewer because this is right on - I went back and played the original after playing Excitebike: World Rally for several hours straight, and WOW: this one ruined the original for me, which I never thought would happen. That's how much better this version is, and how much I love it.

My *only* complaint is that they removed the ability to deliberately wreck yourself by leaning too far backwards. Yep, that's all I've got. Buy this game, it's uber retro goodness whether you played the original Excitebike or not

Excitebike: World Rally is better than the original, but it is a little boring nowadays. The game only gives a few generic courses to play and they are way too easy. The Wii Remote held on its side works the best to play this game. There is a really cool track created though that is simple and easy to use. One complaint is that for some reason, there is an online mode but no local multiplayer. By the way, the graphics are terrible and unacceptable but the music is okay, if a little repetitive. Excitebike: World Rally is a decent game and should be played by anyone who enjoyed the original. Full Review »

Anyone who thinks this game isn't an improvement over the original needs to go back and play it after playing this game to see just how much better this is. The bike get ways more air, you get more way more courses and the ability to save multiple user tracks, and the online play is enormous fun with all the collisions that happen with people trying to take each other out to cool down their bikes. Only complaint is no local multiplayer (perhaps they should have put this on DSiware instead). Full Review »
