  1. The game does attempt to merge a variety of different gaming genres together which some work and some don't. More particularly, some of the mini-games which were a little lacklustre.
  2. The game is very short, but also very short on story. Still, if you like the idea of battling with the dragons from the movie, the game will be fun while it lasts.
  3. It's neat for playing for fun – beat'em up feeling encounters adventure. But the quests and training lessons get boring soon. Fans of the movie can consider buying this one, but the rest should sneak a peek first.
  4. How To Train Your Dragon on consoles seems to suffer from a bit of an identity crisis. It wants to dabble in everything, while managing to avoid executing anything particularly well.
  5. I found that my time with How to Train Your Dragon was a mixed bag indeed. With so much going on it was really hard to gauge how much fun I really had as I went from one extreme to another.
  6. The final product is one that will appeal to more impressionable children, but probably frustrate the more determined ones.
  7. In conclusion, How To Train Your Dragon attempts to offer too much variety, but does little to fully develop any particular aspect.
  8. How To Train Your Dragon does some things very well, and when you’re actually engaging in the battle sections of the game, it can be enjoyable. That said, this takes up a mere 40% of the experience, the rest being the titular ‘Training’ and upkeep of your dragon, along with all of the other menial tasks to get involved with.
  9. When it comes down to it, if you’re really, really interested in seeing a bit more of the world and character from the film, then you might have some enjoyment with this game, but just a little. But without some varied combat or something that doesn’t feel like filler, it’s hard to say that anyone else will enjoy it.
  10. Dull, repetitive and almost embarrassing in the way it fails to entertain, despite the basics of an enjoyable game being in place here somewhere. [May 2010, p.65]
