This is the breakout, must-buy hit that WiiWare needed to justify its existence. LostWinds is a beautiful and unique exploration-based platformer that takes full and natural advantage of the Wii's control setup.
-
LostWinds is a great example of what can be achieved on WiiWare. By combining a few simple gesture-based controls within a tightly focused platform-puzzling framework, Frontier has created a mini-masterpiece at the first attempt.
-
Whether it's through the broad strokes of the brilliantly judged puzzling and flawless control or via the delicate flecks which make up the finer detail – try playing around with the background scenery to see just how much Enril can mess about with – the sheer joy of playing LostWinds is undeniable.
-
LostWinds might not be quite as revolutionary in terms of play control as some had hoped, but it does manage to bring some very new and innovative gameplay ideas to the platforming genre and that's definitely a step in the right direction.
-
Ultimately, though, Lost Winds is a wonderful little game, and a great promise of what’s to come.
-
While a few faults may hold back the score from being perfect, LostWinds is a refreshing and almost nostalgic experience that will leave a player excited, but still asking for more.
-
Fresh, quirky and original – and better still, only seven quid. What are you waiting for?
-
LostWinds is a gem that shouldn't get lost in the current glut of Wii titles.
-
LostWinds is a remarkable game that absolutely deserves to be experienced.
-
Despite the unfortunate length of LostWinds, it is a remarkably good game, an adventure with broad appeal that takes a simple idea and brings it to elegant fruition.
-
An unforgettable experience and a lot more rewarding than many other games.
-
LostWinds is a solid WiiWare title. For game adventurers, it's certainly well-worth the money and the experience.
-
Official Nintendo Magazine UKA joyous little platformer that show how WiiWare should be done, but it's all over too soon. [July 2008, p.80]
-
Games Master UKA downloadable title that, idea-wise, puts many full releases to shame. [Aug 2008, p.76]
-
At about one-fifth of the price and length of a full-scale platformer, it's pretty, polished and fun. LostWinds is one of the most recommendable downloadable games from WiiWare.
-
Here's a game that proves with smart play mechanics and a beautiful visual style that developers can do so much with 43 megabytes, let alone the disc space available for full Wii games. The game's got a fresh gameplay hook, mostly tight controls, surprisingly clean and polished graphics and perfectly peaceful melodies.
-
A stellar start to the WiiWare's catalog, LostWinds sports great production values, charming atmosphere and delivers a calm, relaxing experience that makes good use of the Wii remote's pointer controls.
-
It may seem like an example of how a game can stand out by being the biggest fish in a small pond, but even when compared to similar titles on other consoles, LostWinds holds up.
-
It's a marvelous little game which everyone should play, but with the caveat that it ends abruptly and will have you passionately craving more when it’s done.
-
It's a great buy for 10 dollars. It's fun, addictive, fluent, beautiful, and all around a good time.
-
LostWinds is short, but it's worth the price of 1000 Wii Points. More important is that the game plays like dream, when it comes to controls and visuals. It's simple but hits its target. They should make more of these games on the console.
-
LostWinds is a great example of what can be done with the Wii's motion based interface. In fact, it outshines many of the more expensive, bigger budget, retail games available on the system.
-
This really is a mini-masterpiece.
-
In terms of longevity, LostWinds is no hurricane, but its quality is as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot summer's day. Simply magical.
-
If you own a Wii you owe it to yourself to give LostWinds a whirl, even though you'll be finished before you've really began.
-
The biggest compliment in spite of our criticisms is that LostWinds leaves you wanting more and this is a rare commodity on the Nintendo Wii.
