Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games includes a great variety of mini-games that are highly fun to play, as well some of your favourite characters from the Mario and Sonic universe. This game is the perfect title to pull out when you have a bunch of friends over at your place.

That said, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is still the party game to play with friends and family this Christmas.

It comes as no surprise that Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is another colourful, fun and accessible package offering plenty of family-friendly kicks. While it hardly deserves a gold medal for design and presentation, Wii owners will get some festive thrills out of this one.

In short, Mario & Sonic's London outing is much like their Beijing sojourn of late 2007. It'll keep younger children in particular amused and entertained over Christmas, and it's a safe bet for festive family fun if you have enough controllers to go around.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is fun in short bursts, but lacks the well-made modes that are needed for families who only want to spend 30 minutes or so gaming to see who is the fastest, highest and strongest.

Mario & Sonic at the London Olympics 2012 is the game that we expected: pros and cons balance each other giving players an interesting arcade game for Christmans.

As a party game, London Games succeeds rarely, but its implementation of recognizable (and unrecognizable) characters from Mario and Sonic is perfect. It definitely has all of your favorite characters in it, but that's not enough of a reason to play.

This is a game targeting the younger ones. Easy to play, those new olympic trials include football, cycling, badminton, beach volley, kayaking, and horse riding. Globally, they are well implemented, and there's the "dream challenges", which offer a new take on some classic sports through action, racing and platforming levels to boost the content. It's perfect for a birthday with chocolate cake, fun and accessible, but that's if you haven't reached puberty yet.

It may offer some fun as a party game, but there is nothing extraordinary here. The controls remind us why motion gaming has been considered by many as a "gimmick" and the design is fairly unremarkable.

Third time's a charm, but also extremely predictable. We all know what to expect here because we have played it twice already.

Even though the olympic games of the mascots is both charming and easy to play, it's also way to shallow. Getting a gold medal has more to do with luck than skill and that doesn't work in the long run.

Won't convert the Anti-Mini-gamers, but for the busier household it's highly recommended. [Jan 2012, p.84]

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games proves that it's still worth having a party with these two gaming legends.

Thanks to the strange combination of one diverting new mode with a slew of rehashed sporting events, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games disappoints as much as it entertains.

Past the novelty of seeing the duo together in another game, Mario & Sonic's latest Olympic outing has little going for it in general. The mini-games suffer from dated controls at a point in the Wii's life where MotionPlus has become the standard, and with so many superior collections out there, this one's just plain hard to recommend.

In terms of sports, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games in many ways delivers more of the same. Nonetheless, it offers fun and beautiful entertainment, especially for kids. The diverse use of the Wii MotionPlus controller makes for a great gaming experience.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games may not do either universe justice when it comes to their distinctive gameplay or graphic styles. However, the use of London landmarks and actual event venues makes for a colourful diversion with more than enough variety to keep the kids happy.

But the actual sports? They're the same here as they were four years ago, and anyone who's already got a copy of the first Mario & Sonic Olympic game sitting on the shelf doesn't need to double-dip.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is an interesting game that is reminiscent of those classic 80's Olympic games like Summer Games but with 21st century graphics and the innovative Wii gaming mechanics. Like all mini-game collections, some of the games work and others are just a little embarrassing.

Rich collection of sport mini games is the best for short sessions thanks to its variability and agility. [Christmas 2011]

Bad games happen all the time, and so do brand-extending cash-grabs. But when a game is this blatant in how it wants to take consumers' money-by mashing up long-standing franchises with mostly solid reputations-it's cause for disgust.

There're a few additions to the original formulae, but it's very much the same experience as the one that we discovered back in the Winter Olimpic Games and in Beijing 2008. Still, it's one of those games that is a blast to play with three or four people.
  25. Nov 21, 2011

Still the least interesting inter-company crossover ever conceived and still just an outdated and unambitious mini-game compendium.

It's very similar to the 2007 Beijing title, and the new features are kind of a mixed bag: it's still a good deal if you're looking for a casual olympic experience, but overall there are definitely better party games out there.

Mario & Sonic fills the multiplayer gap, and does it with good-humoured minigames and a renewed focus on throwaway Olympic fun. As far as party games go, it's the gold standard.

What felt fresh and enjoyable four years ago doesn't cut the mustard in 2011, particularly when some elements have been stripped out or reworked to poor effect. London Party mode is a poor alternative to the dozens of superior Wii party games, and while its cast of gaming greats is enough to forgive some of its mistakes it's still pretty far off the mark.

That said, Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games is a winner overall--thanks in part to the continuing awesomeness of the Mario-and-Sonic combination. [Nov 2011, p.82]

On the whole, Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics is a game that seems to both progress the series while keeping it firmly in the roots established by its 2007 predecessor. The motion controls fail to give a groundbreaking presence amongst its many party game brethren on the Wii, and many of the events featured here already made appearances in the other games.

  1. The game is okay but not great ... excellent graphics, but the game certainly offers a bit of Sonic characters, and I, Sonic, I think there are too many stories and characters useless. Otherwise average game because there is no story mode! (Finally, a short story mode, and again ...) Full Review »
  2. This game is by far the worst game in the "Mario & Sonic" series so far. I own all version of the games including the DS versions of the first 2 and the 3DS counterpart of this. The fiddly controls make the games boring and repetitive, yet alone hard to play. For example, in the 100M event, there is no longer any inclusion of the Nunchuck. This is a bizarre decision considering how these events where so easy to play in the Beijing version, where you had the option of playing with or without the extra controller. Also, having no circuit mode or any fun Single Player mode means the game is lacking in content. It seems like Sega have rushed this game to get it out as early as possible, amid the British Olympic fever, in an attempt to receive as much money as possible from a dwindling series. If the game was the original with some extra events and the London theme printed on, this would have got a score of 8. Unfortunately, the game could have 5 events on it and it would still sell like hotcakes due to the inclusion of Mario & Sonic. Buy the Beijing version, or even better, the official game if you have access to an Xbox or PlayStation. Full Review »
  3. In the latest installment of the Mario and Sonic series we see the two mascots head off at the summer Olympics once again but unlike the original this game has much more to offer. The graphics in the game are very well done and the music for the regular Olympic events (if listened closely) gives you a Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 feel. The Dream Events are where everything gets much more interesting, in the Dream Events you explore areas from both the Mario and Sonic series exploring areas from your favorite games such as Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Sonic Adventure 2. The game also provide remixes of themes that you know and love and many of these remixed themes can be unlocked through the game which gives you some nice replay value. Also the game introduces London Party Mode and in this mode you participate in quite a few mini-games in a fashion similar to the Mario Party games and you can also fight rivals who are from both series such as Jet the Hawk and Birdo. This game has plenty to offer and it includes tons of unlockables like Mii Costumes specifically made for this game, i would recommend this game to anyone who has a Wii cause trust me you will enjoy this and i would recommend picking up the 3DS version when its released as well because that version will be even more fun then the Wii version with its inclusion of new events and a story mode!
