This new approach uses a new control scheme in which players use the Wii Remote controller held sideways to battle enemies and navigate the expansive, gorgeous environments in classic Metroid fashion, then aim at the screen with the Wii Remote pointer to blast foes in first-person and hunt the world for clues and hidden passages. Regardless the shortcomings, Nintendo definitely deserves praise for yet again hiring not one but two orchestras to play the game's soundtrack start to end– hearing real strings and percussion, occasionally augmented by sci-fi synthesizer, adds a lushness to the soundtrack that Metroid has long deserved.
  2. It's an excellent shake-up to the series, one that will satisfy long-time fans with an open mind while also able to ease newcomers into the series with a bang of bangs. It may not be the Citizen Kane of gaming, but it's still essential playing.
  3. Classic gameplay, current technology, epic story and boosted action. These are the keys to understand a Metroid game very different from other titles in the series. It's Team Ninja style powered by the shine of a memorable Nintendo franchise.
  4. Certainly not the best Metroid game, but definitely a great game in it's own right.
  5. The latest title in the Metroid Prime series is a welcomed addition. Although not as emotionally loaded as its predecessors, the lackluster controls and Samus occasional attitude problem being irritating, it is a game that should be enjoyed by any fan of the series. Getting to know more about the anonymous bounty hunter was very intriguing.
  6. Metroid: Other M has missed some of the expectations. The gameplay is flawed by some choices, and the control system is far from perfection. Still it has its merits: graphics are outstanding, and so is the combat, but it lacks most of the atmosphere of the previous installments. Other M is surely a Metroid, it represents a new way in the series, but it cannot stand as its definitive evolution.
  7. But despite its benefits, the plot is bland, predictable, and utterly cliche. By limiting Samus in such a nonsensical way, the game goes against everything the series is about. The exploration aspects are severely limited, and the linear designs are watered down versions of the stuff you'd find in the previous games.

The controls where a little hard to get used to at first but once I got the hang of them I thought that they really made sense. The game itself runs great the graphics are good for the wii and when I say that I mean really good! I was blown away at how good the game looked. I've been a fan ever sense super metroid and feel this was a great sequel to it with great new up to date features like 3rd person and first person with similar features from super metroid like all of the awesome beams n suits and new features that make it much better like dodging attacks and combat moves. I would recommend this game to all metroid and adventure fans. 10/10 by far Expand

Although unoriginal, the storyline is solid enough and told through brilliantly animated CGI cutscenes, ala God of War I & II. The in-game graphics are beautiful, and the combat is fast-paced insanity. It would have been nice to have been able to play this with the classic controller somehow, but the Wiimote alone works fantastically. You'll witness the human side of Samus as she struggles to deal with her past and present through around roughly twenty hours of gameplay. Old fans are probably only upset with this game because it changes up the formula, and purists don't deal too well with change. It was amazing fun from start to finish and shined brand new perspective upon Samus and the Metroid universe. Definitely worth a spot in your collection. Expand

We view her as a hardened badass war machine who gets the job done with chilling proficiency. The gameplay they've crafted reflects that long-held characterization. Throughout the Bottle Ship, Samus will throw giant alien bees, kick Space Pirates in the face, and suplex giant chameleon-scorpions. It's a shame the narrative paints her as something entirely different. Yoshio Sakamoto wanted to humanize Samus, but in his attempt to do so, he made her come across as a weak-willed, emotionally stunted moron with deep daddy issues.

If Team Ninja developed the next game, and Sakamoto had nothing to do with the story, I would be optimistic. It's clear that they get how Samus is seen by Metroid's audience, and they certainly delivered a compelling game. It's a shame that such a great game had an awful story to go with it.
