Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball plugs a gap in videogaming's sports selection, and provides a fun, if sparse, game in the process.
  2. Boring and confusing in single-player; briefly entertaining with a friend. That's not really worth 25 quid, is it? [Oct 2009, p.67]

If the very idea of pirates and ninjas wielding bright red rubber balls is inherently hilarious to you, chances are Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball will at least provide a few decent chuckles. For everyone else, the meager supply of content and repetitive gameplay mechanics fall flatter than the decades-old debate upon which the game is based.
  4. Were it a $10 WiiWare title, we'd still have to give it a thumbs down. There's almost no focus, there's little reward for your time and money, and the production exhibits an extreme lack of care.

Cubed, IGN, and Cheat Code sound like someone's grandfather giving a review. This game isn't trying to get chuckles. It's going for exciting. And in that sense, it scores where many other wii games fail. Most of the games that IGN gives glowing reviews to are easily forgotten like the remake of Punchout which is a nearly complete knockoff of SNES Punchout and barely has a pulse. PvN Dodgeball though.. succeeds in it's simplicity by actually getting players into a game as simple as throwing and dodging a ball by making it fun for the players. And that's all that matters in a game. Not the graphics or the amount of content it has. If it isn't fun, then why drag it out? If you want content, watch a movie. This isn't a movie and if their kids or grandkids had reviewed it, they'd have easily put it up there in the 70-90 category. Full Review »
