After sonic the hedgehog 3 and knuckles sega made sonic 3D blast. now i haven't played this game until i got sonic mega collection for theAfter sonic the hedgehog 3 and knuckles sega made sonic 3D blast. now i haven't played this game until i got sonic mega collection for the gamecube, so i'm reviewing the sega Genesis version not the sega Saturn version. and this is not the first 3D sonic game ever, it's just an overhead view, the first real 3D sonic game was sonic adventure. but anyway let's start this review. sonic 3D blast is an okay game and it's very underrated, I still think that it's the worst classic sonic game but it's not terrible. so in the story, what happens is, dr robotnik is capturing these birds called flickys, and is putting them into robots, sonic then heads to flicky island to save these birds. now the gameplay is very different than the other sonic games on the Genesis, it's not as simple as just running to the end of the stage and touching a goal post to clear the stage. in this game, you have to look for robots that have flickys inside of them destroy all of the robots and go to a hoop somewhere in the stage and put them in, after 5 flickys have been put into the hoop, it takes you to another area where you have to do the same thing, after doing this at least 2 times you then clear the stage. sonic's jump is literally broken in this game, and every time you take damage, the flickys scatter. finding flickys is very long and very boring, and it also takes like forever, on your first time don't be surprised if it takes you at least 10 minutes to clear the first stage. and beating the whole game can take a very long time, it's even worse because this game doesn't save, even though the sonic game right before this one introduced a save feature. and the controles in this game are not good at all even with a gamecube controller, i can't imagine how it would be on a sega Genesis controller which only has a D-pad and no analog stick). the zones in this game are very creative, the zones are, Green Groove zone, Rusty Ruin zone, Spring Stadium Zone,Diamond Dust Zone,Volcano Valley Zone,Gene Gadget Zone, and Panic Puppet Zone. and all of them have there own little gimmicks thrown in like Rusty Ruin zone has these things that make sonic spin and break through coulombs. tails and knuckles aren't playable in this game but they do make small appearances, if you see tails or knuckles with enough rings, they will send you to a special stage, I think that this game has the best special stages in any of the sonic Genesis games, yes, i actually like this game's special stages more than sonic the hedgehog 3 and knuckle's special stages. but in this game there's no super sonic, if you collect all 7 chaos emeralds you unlock the final boss, just like sonic heroes. in the end, this game is okay, it's not good, and it's not bad, but it's just okay.
