Sonic Colors is a fantastic game. Its greatest achievement is that one does not have to be a super-tolerant dyed-in-the-wool Sonic super fan to enjoy it or to forgive a laundry list of flaws.
  2. Nov 20, 2010
To call Sonic Colours the best 3D Sonic game ever is damning with faint praise, although its title is deserved. The action is fast enough to satisfy your speed lust, whilst the Wisp powers introduce plenty of new skills and ways to explore the stages that otherwise could just be straight zips to the finish.
  3. Nov 9, 2010
We can say without hesitation than this is the best Sonic game for the Wii, and maybe the best Sonic 3D ever made.
  4. Nov 9, 2010
Sonic Colours embraces everything a SEGA fan could ever hope for or dream. Platforming has rarely been so fun and engaging.

A fantastic game. Not just a step in the right direction, but an unequivocal success. In fact, it's the best entry in the series since the Blue Blur's 16-bit heyday. [Dec 2010, p.78]

Whether you are a fan or not the hedgehog, take a chance and see if this is more a title of "Sonic cycle".
  7. Nov 22, 2010
But if you're looking for a modern Sonic game which stays faithful to its roots, is fun to play and is a worthy title on its own merits, look no further. Finally, Sonic Colors is that game we've been waiting for.
  8. Nov 10, 2010
Sonic Colours is a worthy successor of the saga we have learned to love in the 90's. Quick and easy to master, the game brings a lot of fun and it's really enjoyable by all kind of players.
  9. Feb 2, 2011
If you have enjoyed previous Sonic games but were hesitant to pick this one up because of the most recent Sonic outings, worry no more. Sonic Colors is worth the price of admission.

The best 3D Sonic of its generation and another step in the right direction. More please. [Christmas 2010, p.74]
  11. Won't top the classics or Sonic Adventure, but it's one of Sonic's best 3D outings in a decade.
  12. Nov 9, 2010
WiiWare's Sonic 4 may yet prove the bigger draw for fans, but it'll be a victory for hedgehogs past. True fans, those that really love and cherish the blue blur, should bet on Colours, because if Sonic is to have a future then that future starts here.
  13. Jan 13, 2011
Sonic Colors is hands-down the best Sonic title to be released in nearly a decade, and definitely one of the best titles to hit the Wii in the past year.
  14. Nov 18, 2010
Sonic Colours is one of the big surprises on the Nintendo Wii this year. The package is really good and can only be recommended to all Sonic fans.
  15. Nov 15, 2010
After many years of average games, Sega finally gets back on the tracks with Sonic Colors: everything the fans were hoping for is here, packed with gorgeous graphics and solid new game mechanics.
  16. Nov 12, 2010
The best Sonic so far for Nintendo's Wii, and probably also the best Sonic that we've played on this so-called 'next-gen'. Totally awesome.
  17. Nov 8, 2010
Sonic Colors is a dizzying combination of the distantly familiar memories of the first few Sonic titles combined with thoughtful new abilities and mostly well executed level design.
  18. 84
Colors is an apology for the werehog portions of Sonic Unleashed, and it's a very good one.
  19. Dec 22, 2010
While it does lack some of the polish of Nintendo's best, Sonic Colors is very, very good and offers enough truly unique features to sit at the table and hold its own. Welcome back, Sonic – we've missed you.
  20. Nov 29, 2010
It is artful, fun, and well-made.
  21. Nov 16, 2010
Despite some of the end-game content feeling designed to annoy the hell out of those who made it that far, the tally of cheap deaths can't detract from the facts: Sonic Colors is the best 3D Sonic game in ages.
  22. Nov 12, 2010
Sonic Colours is a worthy successor of the saga. It's the best 3D Sonic since the Dreamcast's games.

Fast side-scrolling Sonic successfully combines the "classic" platformer with 3D action. Colorful environments and nice level design make new Sonic really catchy. [Issue#199]

Not just the greatest Sonic game on the Wii, but also, arguably, of this generation. [Christmas 2010, p.100]
  25. 80
It does away with additional playable characters and gimmicks, instead focusing on refining the classic Sonic gameplay while adding a few twists of its own.
  26. Dec 15, 2010
Sonic Colors is a blast from start to finish. It's a shame that the game doesn't last much longer, but it does more things right than it does wrong.
  27. Dec 2, 2010
Despite the gimmicks, shallow story Sonic Colours is one of the stronger Sonic games SEGA has brought us in recent times. Providing gamers with a fantastic looking retro dose of Sonic action thats hard not to like, it's a Sonic game for the "Sonic" generation!
  28. Nov 28, 2010
Sega proves that they still have what it takes to make a Sonic title that feels fun, fresh and quite frankly fantastic, here's hoping that they can replicate this success in the future.
  29. Nov 23, 2010
Sonic Colours is one of the best 3D Sonic games to date, the best Sonic the Hedgehog game on Wii and certainly a strong contender for Super Mario Galaxy's crown.
  30. Nov 22, 2010
    Perfect for old-school Sonic fans.
  31. Nov 20, 2010
Sonic Colours is a beautiful and challenging game that both old Sonic-fans and newcomers will appreciate. The problems with Sonic and having freedom in three dimensions remain, but you'll soon forget those parts when you're flying through 2D-levels at full speed.
  32. Nov 18, 2010
It's taken multiple console generations, various rebuilds of Sonic Team and more miserably failed experiments than Eggman's R&D department, but it's finally here: a Sonic game worthy of genuine praise.
  33. Nov 12, 2010
Sonic Colours offers a mix of 3D action and classic Sonic side-scrolling with dazzling visuals and exhilarating platforming.
  34. Nov 12, 2010
Sonic Colours is the best 3D Sonic since the Adventure iterations on the Dreamcast. Beautiful, nicely cinematic and with spectacular gameplay and level design, Sonic Colours is a big step in the right direction for the blue hedgehog. The Sonic Team was able to draw inspiration from the latest plumber's adventures from Nintendo to give new momentum to their character, and it's both a satisfaction and a relief to play with him again in such a satisfying way.
  35. Nov 11, 2010
There are tried-and-tested action-game formulae in Sonic Colours, and while they're consistently well-executed, there's little inherently new or innovative on show. For me, Sonic Colours' pace and thrill-power overcome these concerns. It's a simple, neon-tinged blast of action gaming, and sometimes, that's all you really want.
  36. Nov 10, 2010
To say that this game comes as a surprise would be an enormous understatement. Sonic fans, I know it's hard to believe, but there's a reason to believe again.
  37. Nov 9, 2010
A long overdue return to form, with a focus on what made Sonic fun in the first place. He's always been fast, but it's good to finally see him speeding in the right direction.
  38. Nov 9, 2010
Without the distractions of combat, hub worlds and pointless Wii-mote waggling, Sonic Team has been able to put all its efforts into creating a platformer Sonic fans can be proud of. The quality of the level design is what separates this from previous disappointments, and it's certainly better than that on show in Sonic 4.
  39. Jan 2, 2011
Sonic Colors is a refreshing step in the right direction after years of disappointing titles.
  40. Dec 22, 2010
It's a delightful mix and, while occasionally stumbling, a great step in the right direction.
  41. Nov 17, 2010
SEGA has every right to be proud of Sonic Colours. The decent, yet simple gameplay makes it one of the best Sonic games in years.

The game uses the camera smartly, and transitions from 2D mode to 3D are actually VERY creative (like in one part, sonic will do a 270 degree turn around a fountain to shift from 2D to 3D), which if you remember Sonic Heroes, yeah, you won't have those issues here. The Wisps are used well, they don't seem underused or overused to me. Why? Because Sonic is supposed to be a fast blue blur for most of the action, not using some weird gimmick 75% of the time. The levels are well... beautiful. They are easily some of the best graphics a Wii game has ever seen. Gameplay wise, it has a few knots here and there (hence a non-perfect rating), Ive gotten trapped in an area once before requiring restart, and some of the pitfalls were rather... cheap, but aside from that, this game has great appeal to any Sonic fan young or old. When Sonic Colors was first announced, I was nervous about this game and thought it would just be another failure of a Sonic game....if I had a time-travel machine, I would go back to that day and slap myself in the face just because of how wrong I was. Gameplay wise, this game is like the daytime stages of Sonic Unleashed, but improved a lot. I never had any camera issues, the shift from 3D to 2D and vice versa is very smooth, the level design is beautiful and very creative, the controls are excellent and responsive, and the wisps add a large amount of replay value to the game. The music in the game is fantastic and even gets me humming to it at times. The graphics are beautiful, SEGA and Sonic Team really pushed the limit on the Wii's hardware for this game (how do they do this?) And last, but not least, the voice acting is awesome, and really makes all the characters really show their personalities and not make them seem like lifeless zombies. In conclusion, this game is a must-buy for anyone who is a Sonic fan. Even if you aren't a Sonic fan, but own a Wii, you should definitely buy this, because it is just too good to miss! Full Review »
