Spectrobes is a bit of an odd case in the fact that I love most of what the game is doing, but just can’t personally stand the style or characters.
  2. Unsophisticated mechanics and repetitive battles plague this generic space adventure.
  3. A surprisingly delightful action-RPG. It is, by no means, the most original or most exotic game on the Nintendo Wii, but for a console that is looking for its next big title to lure its gamers back, Spectrobes: Origins is a great pick-up for any gamer.
  4. A very impressive game. Though it is not punishing in difficulty or complex in story, the gameplay is fun, and collecting all of the game's Spectrobes makes for some decent replay value. This game is an easy recommendation for new RPG gamers, or RPG fans who don't take themselves too seriously.
  5. This is a decent game, and kids will likely enjoy it for a while, but it falls well short of being any sort of modern classic.
  6. The graphics of this game are pretty phenomenal considering the game is being displayed by the Wii.
  7. Spectrobes: Origins is fun if it's your first foray into the collect-a-thon genre, but otherwise, it's a pixelated case of follow the leader.

Consider Spectrobes a fun opportunity to bond with your kids by saving the galaxy from the latest alien menace, and enjoy these times while you still can. In just a couple years, they'll probably be asking you to buy them the equivalent of Modern Warfare 2.
  9. Spectrobes: Origins is an interesting evolution of the franchise, even if still aimed to a teen audience it happens to stand out as a solid and entertaining RPG recommended especially to fans of the genre. The game is visually impressive but plagued by minor faults, it does not last a lot but it offers some optional content and lots of creatures to unlock and collect.
  10. Spectrobes Origins is home version perfectly adapted from what we've seen in Nintendo DS. It makes good use of the Wii hardware and has a well-integrated story, which is bolstered by a great localization to Spanish.
  11. Spectrobes: Origins brings to Wii the essence of the Nintendo DS games. The real time battles, commanding many kind of creatures and with the new excavation fossils are so great. But the game is simple with repetitive actions and scenarios in a weak story. A recommended game for new RPG gamers and for the fans of the series.
  12. Using various motion-controlled tools to excavate your Spectrobes is oddly compelling, but this is otherwise a pretty vanilla effort. [Oct 2009, p.90]
  13. If you want a very good Pokémon clone, Spectrobes: Origins is the right choice for you. The best, it’s almost better, but less popular then the big Nintendo franchise.

A competent action RPG that will appeal directly to children and existing Spectrobes fans. The generic anime visuals and predictable story will put off some hardcore RPG gamers, but those who give it a go will become immersed in the fun combat systems and addictive monster collecting scenario.
  15. Origins is yet another good RPG for the Wii. Genki has done a very good adaptation of the portable editions of Disney's franchise. We will find tons of creatures to deal with, all together with an outstanding graphics engine.
  16. This is a cut above most monster collection games, but won't change the world. [Oct 2009, p.80]
  17. This latest attempt to wrestle Pokemon from the hands of children and replace it with Disney's own Spectrobes fails again. [Nov 2009, p.59]
  18. Considering the very limited number of RPGs currently available on the Wii, those who have been looking for a game to wet their appetite should be satisfied with this option.
  19. In conclusion, Spectrobes: Origins is a good attempt at moving the franchise to the console world and works on most levels. The unfortunate aspect of the game is that the RPG aspect seems too contrived and does not add to the genre anything new.
  20. The game has all the right parts for a great action RPG title. A large amount of detail went into the collecting all of the Spectrobes and it lends greatly to the story and gameplay.
  21. 87
Suffice it to say, you'll have fun if you give this game a fair chance.
  22. 30
With a simplistic, weak story that will only entertain young children and drab, tedious gameplay that only young children could overlook, Spectrobes: Origins is a game that should only be played by kids, and even then, any Pokémon game will provide them with three times the content at three times the quality.

I love how the main character is in the battles and how the cinemas actually have voices and are acted out. The new spectrobes are very cool and the spectrobe that you ride to go faster is awsome (warning, you might get addicted and thus don't search for minerals/spectrobes as often). the only reason i said 9 instead of 10, was because even though the main character gets cool diverse weapons, the spectrobes don't do as much in battle as they used to unless there is a second player. Don't get me wrong, the weapons are cool, but spectrobes 2 for ds was going strong with combat. This combat is more fluid and fun, just less spectrobe action than i hoped for. Full Review »
