  1. A strategy game that anyone can get into and enjoy, Swords & Soldiers is the best WiiWare game of the year so far.
  2. One of Wiiware's strongest pick-up-and-play titles, with a lengthy story mode, added game types, and even achievements, this ten-dollar download is hard to beat.
  3. Swords & Soldiers will certainly make you laugh, but it’s also just as likely to give you a serious hand cramp from the many hours of your time it will commandeer.
  4. If you crave a unique RTS with the motion control experience, then you need to play Swords and Soldiers.
  5. A delightfully light-hearted take on the strategy genre.
  6. If Ronimo Games' first game on WiiWare has a con, it's its short duration. Campaigns are like that and can only entertain the player for a few hours. Fortunately, there is the multiplayer, giving a bit more durability to the game. Aside from that, Swords & Soldiers is a great way to obtain great amounts of quick fun on Wii.
  7. Although not very deep and sometimes inclined to chaotic action, Swords and Soldiers is an original and ironical take on the RTS genre. A little short, but still one of the funniest strategic game ever released specifically on console.

There is nothing else like this on WiiWare, and the production values are much higher than most other games on the service. Strategy fans should find their fix here – just don't expect as deep an experience as some of the better-known real-time strategy games on PC.
  9. There’s no online component, which is truly sad, since the gameplay is pitch perfect for quick, online “pwnage.” That said, you’re still getting a whole lot of game for your 1000 Wii Points, and regardless of the lack of competition on Wii, Swords & Soldiers is a great little game that easily stacks up against any other RTS on any system.
  10. You can't find any other game like this one on Wii. For a WiiWare title, the production value is over the top.
  11. One of the best Wii Ware games we've tried so far, that's basically everything that we can say about Swords and Soldiers. If you're looking for a funny, strange and interesting Real Time Strategy game, don't think it twice, just go and buy it. If you don't, give it a try, it's a very good game despite not having an online feature. Still, it's worth to play against any friend. You won't regret it.
  12. There is very few to say against this fantastic strategy game which would undoubtedly please genre fans.
  13. Ronimo Games has produced a title that is technically above the average of the titles WiiWare. Mechanics requires a lot of attention and the story is very funny. The only flaw of the game is tied to a limited longevity of the main challenges that is balanced with two players option.
  14. Far more than just a quirky and adept multiplayer romp, then, Swords & Soldiers has found a deeply satisfying sweet-spot where chaos and control are almost perfectly balanced, and the result is a game that towers above everything else WiiWare currently has to offer.
  15. As with PopCap's best titles, Swords and Soldiers reworks the weary conventions of its tradition to compelling effect. Its deliberately restricted perspective is unlikely to sate the appetites of hardcore RTS fans, but the move to 2D acts as a concentration of the genre's charms, not a dilution, and is perfectly suited to WiiWare.
  16. The style is vibrant and entertaining, and the overall presentation is lighthearted and easy to enjoy, regardless of your familiarity with RTS games coming into this bizarre take on the genre.
  17. Keep an eye on Ronimo Games. Without any notice they released an RTS game with a new and fresh perspective. This approach does have it disadvantages in the form of difficult camera positions, but in the end Swords & Soldiers is all about have a blast. With special thanks to the original gameplay, good graphics and great humour.

It successfully compresses the real-time strategy formula into a two-dimensional, side-scrolling game without losing so much strategic depth that it becomes a simple action game.
  19. On its own merits Swords and Soldiers is a highly recommended game, but the idea is further strengthened by the lack of any other product of this kind which bears a similar quality in the service’s catalogue.
  20. Players looking for a strategy game that hasn’t been done often need look no further than Swords & Soldiers.
  21. Swords and Soldiers is an engaging, goofy romp that takes out the complexity of other real-time strategy games but leaves in all the fun.
  22. Swords & Soldiers is a cute game with a lot of moments that are really, really fun. It can get pretty intense in later campaign levels and it's satisfying to complete them.
  23. Ronimo Games has created a light hearted take on the RTS genre. Swords & Soldiers has enabled a gateway for people who don’t normally venture into the real time strategy genre, to be able to pick up their Wii remote and play.
  24. 2D side scrolling real time strategy game is a rare game indeed, but Swords & Soldiers proves that a well designed game can work. Besides the odd minor issue with controls and the kid game feel of Swords & Soldiers this is one game I would recommend buying for strategy fans looking for something new.
  25. One of the best Wiiware product: a fresh look and an innovative structure for the genre. Unfortunately, there's no online multiplayer, but Sword & Soldiers is perfect for Digital Delivery Market, and suitable for all the RTS lovers.
  26. One of the best looking WiiWare games is also one of the most accessible real-time strategies ever.

Swords and Soldiers (WiiWare, $10) - Brief Review. (B+)

For a inexpensive, fun action game in a fun and silly package, look no further. In a
game that can oddly be described as a 2D Side Scrolling Real Time Strategy Game - S&S packs in some fun for a low cost. With the three factions you get plenty of gameplay, plus challenge modes and achievements. If you have younguns, they may like the Versus modes, but for me it was a little too clickfesty - but I didn't play much with this mode. Here's the IGN review, check it out. I give it a solid B+.

This is one of the best WiiWare games available and one of the best console RTS games ever created. It is simple, yet hard to master. The design is terrfic and offers up a lot of strategy and depth even though it is only 2-D. The 3 factions are very different but also very balanced. The controls are perfect on the Wii system. The graphics are fresh and creative. If you love strategy games, you'll love this game. It is just a fun game that you can pick up and play at any time. Full Review »

Swords&Soldiers is great fun and probably one of the best RTS games you could play to introduce someone to the genre. It is very simple yet still very challenging at times and the colorful, cartoon like graphics add a lot to the fun as well in one of the best games WiiWare has to offer. Full Review »
