The Simpsons Game on Wii falls short of its next-gen brethren because of mediocre controls that cause unneeded deaths throughout the game.
  2. The Simpsons Game is exceptionally funny, but the hobbled Wii control scheme sucks out what little fun there was to be had with the gameplay.
  3. The chuckles along the way make it worth the trouble for fans, but if you don’t know Arman Tamzarian from Disco Stu, most of the game’s redeeming elements will fall on deaf, bored ears.
  4. The gameplay is not the best of the best, but the creativity and wit that has been put into it does it all.

It makes us laugh, but this doesn't make up for the lack quality. Stick with the next-gen. [Christmas 2007, p.62]

If you’re just a casual viewer or not a fan at all, then there’s nothing in the game to warrant your cash. On the other hand, if you are a Simpsons devotee, then the pitch-perfect humor, writing, and look of this game will more than make it worth putting up with the standard gameplay mechanics.

It'd be the finest licensed game ever if it wasn't ruined by the anti-climactic ending and an atrocious camera. Sadly, all the humour in the world can't really fix that. [Christmas 2007, p.70]

No amount of Simpsons love justifies sitting through this much clumsy mediocrity. [Jan 2008, p.42]

The Simpsons Game is yet another lackluster licensed game. The difference is that this lackluster licensed game has The Simpsons writers and voice cast behind it, meaning that the humor and atmosphere in the game outright nails the source material.
  10. Overall this a game that somehow manages to avoid the usual join-the-dots approach of other film franchises. Although it never quite lifts itself above a pretty average game, at least it proves along the way that it knew what it was and was happy to laugh both at itself as well as the games industry at large.

It's all a bit repetitive and distinctly unoriginal. [Issue#17, p.91]
  12. When it comes down to it, The Simpsons Game ultimately glides by with its fantastic sense of humor.

Great game! A wonderful collaboration of video game and the simpsons. Although this game is no Hit and Run, it's still a very enjoyable titleGreat game! A wonderful collaboration of video game and the simpsons. Although this game is no Hit and Run, it's still a very enjoyable title with an outrageous and entertaining storyline, witty and creative dialogue, original and humorous gameplay mechanics, and quirky and cartoony graphics. Although this title is entertaining and super over-the-top ridiculous, it's bogged down by it's horrendous camera angle functions, janky cutscene animation, and notoriously repetitive gameplay. Brilliantly designed levels don't make up for gratuitously stale gameplay that requires you to do the same thing over and over and over again. I would love to give this title a higher score, but it falls short of reaching it's potential as the best simpsons game to date. Full Review »
