Both games -- the Wii version especially -- ought to be so much better.
  2. On the Wii, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 hasn’t completely gotten into the swing of things provided by its Xbox 360 counterpart: namely, online play and precision swinging and putting.
  3. It is a great game to have around when friends come over, and the controls really make the game fun. However, if you just want to play the career mode by yourself, I would suggest picking up a copy for one of the other systems. The overall complexity of the title is not as deep as it is on the other consoles, but the gameplay is much more fun for the average player.
  4. Not enough features or updates stand out to warrant this quickly released update to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. Outdated graphics, spotty controls, and lack of online support hinder an otherwise solid golf sim.
  5. The best Tiger in years just appeared on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but this game just doesn’t feel the same in comparison. Of course, with the Wii controller it shouldn’t – but it also shouldn’t leave me guessing half the time as to where my ball is going.
  6. It feels as though every single idea pitched for how to update Tiger Woods Pro Tour 08 somehow all got approved, regardless of merit. Instead of refining the fundamentals, the title concentrates on unedited excess that doesn’t blend well with a realistic golf game.
  7. I was really hoping that Tiger 08 would satisfy my desire to have a polished and refined golfing experience that uses the Wii remote. With its frustrating and inconsistent gameplay, however, Tiger 08 is (much as I hate to say it) way under par.
  8. For now, if you want great golf gameplay for your Wii, you should already have it for free in the form of Wii Sports.
  9. “Nothing new here” is the pervading theme in Tiger Woods ‘08.
  10. Tiger Woods 08 is good, but it's only slightly better than the last game.

Wii owners finally have the Tiger Woods game they should have had six months ago.
  12. While certainly no visual stunner, Tiger 08 does offer plenty of good times for virtual golfers on the Wii. Just be sure to pack some patience in that bag of yours - you'll need it.
  13. If you did buy it last year you won’t find anything here that makes it worth spending your money again.
  14. Gameplay is top notch this year catering to all walks of life. Whether you are a newbie or veteran, there are many levels of difficulty and settings that will challenge any golfing fan.

In a perfect world, Tiger Woods 08 would automatically be sent out to all 07 owners free of charge as a version upgrade, as it’s pretty much the same game minus all the "launch-itis" flaws. We'd recommend this one to avid golf fans, but at this point it’d be a far better move to just wait for 09, 10, or beyond.
  16. The lack of initial on-screen prompts aside, it’s entirely possible for anyone to throw themselves into Tiger’s 2008 outing and have both a rewarding and entertaining time, be they a golf fan or not.
  17. Great real life-like controls make for a very good golf simulation and all the modes and multiplayer will keep you busy. One for the fans.
  18. It sets the standard for Wii golfing controls but is barely any different from its predecessor. [Dec 2007, p.48]
  19. What a difference half a year makes. [Nov 2007, p.104]
  20. With bolstered controls and a development system as deep as most RPGs, Tiger Woods is still the game beat when it comes to golf.
  21. Seriously, EA, don't invite that "GET IN THE HOLE" guy back again.
  22. With more balanced controls for the Remote, this would have been so much better. [Nov 2007, p.79]
  23. It’s certainly the best golf game on Wii, but whether the upgrades are worth $50 if you own Tiger 07 will depend on how much you like the series.
  24. 81
What you are left with is a mature confident golf game that really does deliver an unrivalled experience in terms of replicating real-world golf.

Not only does the game continue to give gamers realistic courses and the ability to creat/build your own golfer, it also incorporates swing mechanics. Don't know why anyone would want to sit down while playing this game...My only complaints would be that chipping can be difficult (too much focus on the speed of follow through) and approach shots aren't too influenced by the hole being above/below the ball. Previous editions seemed to emphasize this more. The putting is realistic (unless you are a cheater, don't bother with the putt preview), but just like actually putting, it takes practice. As easy as it is to drive 110% and in the fairway every time, the chipping and putting controls are obversely difficult. There is, however, plenty of variety and interesting minigames. It's worth buying if you can find it used. Full Review »
