Where the Wild Things Are is a prime example of how to make a good licensed video game. It doesn't shoehorn gameplay into the license's plot. In fact, the gameplay is fun and varied.
-
74Essentially, Where the Wild Things Are is a standard platformer. Make no mistake, it's still a solid effort, but the true selling point is really the chance to play through Sendak's world, not the gameplay itself. If you enjoyed either the book or the movie, the Wild Things game will make a nice companion piece to either one.
-
70In the end, Where the Wild Things Are delivers a far more passionate experience than one might expect. Griptonite Games went with a wholly original plot that is far darker and, in many respects, more compelling than the movie's take, but the developer does so at some risk.
-
Clocking in at around five or six hours, depending upon your commitment to nabbing hidden items, the experience is short-lived. The adventure is rock solid, though, in spite of some repetition. The game's high points are sure to shine especially bright for anyone who loved the book growing up.
-
A surprisingly pleasant movie adaptation, and good, clean family fun. [Feb 2010, p.80]

47Considering the fact that Where the Wild Things Are offers nothing in the way of exciting platforming or combat, and it doesn't even run all that well, I'd avoid this one altogether.
