  • Summary: In Worms: A Space Oddity, players enjoy the ultimate blend of classic Worms game modes and re-invented single-player missions, as well as multiplayer modes that include a host of all-new party games and even more customization options. The game takes advantage of the Wii’s intuitive controlsls, on-screen hints and the redesigned interface with an in-game help system. Worms: A Space Oddity demonstrates significant visual, technical and design advancement over its predecessors with a new visual style that abandons the traditional drawn approach and replaces it with a distinctive style inspired by classic Sci-Fi looks. The Worms battles take place across six planets, each with its own, unique environments and global events. The online multiplayer experience pits up to four Worms fiends from all over the world against each other. [THQ] Collapse

The space theme could've been carried further, and the weapons need way more originality, but that doesn't stop A Space Oddity from being one of the most refreshing Worms in quite some time.
  2. This is, in most areas, a brilliant Worms game with great gameplay mechanics, new weapons and nice visuals. But without online it's simply inferior to its DS counterparts. [Apr 2008, p.86]
  3. While it may not offer series vets much in the way of innovation, Wii owners hankering for a new game could do worse.
  4. One of the worst Worms games in memory. [May 2008, p.62]

Yes there are fewer weapons. Having no OL play is silly. But the controls are fine: Better than any previous Worms game in fact as you can even line up shots with dotted "practice throws". You can also see the whole screen by pressing the "+" button: It has a far, near and close camera that works great, and apparently undiscovered by some of the critics. The graphics aren't astounding. The gameplay is classic worms and lots of fun. Expand

I'm a huge worms fan and was very disappointed with Team 17's turnout here. First and foremost, the camera controls are TERRIBLE. It's nearly impossible to consistently get the camera to pan across the screen. Those good old days of just move your mouse to change the camera view were tossed out of the window when they made this game. I have no clue how this game passed QC or any usability testing. The other huge downside is that there are so few weapons in the game, it gets boring. the whole fun of worms is wondering what's gonna pop out of that crate, a crazy old lady, a mad cow, an iron donkey?? No clue why the limited the game to about 25 weapons. Finally, the other annoyance i s that you have to play a rather boring story-mode to unlock the mini-games and other sound banks. This is just a pet peeve of mine, but if I shelled out the $50 for the game, I shouldn't have to complete boring, pointless challenges to unlock content that I paid for. One other major drawback - no online game play. Honestly, looking back on this... I have no idea why I bought this game. I'll most likely post it to ebay this weekend and see if I can get some of my $$ back. Overall, I'd say save your money and buy a different game. If you must have worms, I heard there's an XBOX live version of Worms 3d for $10 instead of the $50 they charge for this game. Expand
  3. Worst game in the Worms franchise, and hands down one of the worst games I've ever played. I really liked Worms Armageddon and the Worms game on XBLA. They're simple, fun, require a bit of strategy, and have cool weapons that you can use to blow up your friends' worms. This game on the Wii however has some of the worst controls and mechanical issues I've ever seen. For whatever reason a team can now only have three worms, team names aren't a feature, very limited weapon selection, no online gameplay. But really more than anything it was the bad controls, it renders the game hardly playable. I only paid $4.50 for a used copy of this game and I had to return it almost immediately it was such a waste of my money. Seriously avoid this game. You'll a million times more fun skipping stones or babysitting your neighbor's dog. Expand

Terrible game. I am a huge fan of Worms, I play it almost daily in Nintendo DS. But the Wii game was just completely awful.
